Absolute disgrace. Posters on campus calling for her to be sacked. Academic colleague tweeting that he agrees with this. twitter.com/FrancescoFv37/status/1445727937660076032?t=-Di7mRf5sznFvvzww8UI2w&s=19 I saw a tweet saying there was a burning in effigy. Can't confirm this but nothing would surprise me now. Time for Sussex staff, students and alumni to put their heads over the parapet.

@TheCountessofFitzdotterel

I think the police letter refers to the Instagram account. Not the masked protesters setting off flares on campus.
You mean this: www.instagram.com/p/CUrjq01MbQ1/

Looks like one of those things you see at gender reveal parties.

TheWeeDonkey · 14/10/2021 17:40

Well I sure hope there was no misgendering going on. That would be really dangerous.

AssassinatedBeauty · 14/10/2021 17:43

"Looks like one of those things you see at gender reveal parties".

Or like one of those things you see being used by Ultra football fans at European matches. What's your point??

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 14/10/2021 17:46

I am glad to say that I have never been to a gender reveal party. It is obvious that our social spheres have been widely different.

MargaritaPie · 14/10/2021 17:48

Well using one at a football match with crowds of thousands of people could be potentially dangerous. But judging by that pic it's not near people is it? In other words it looks controlled.

merrymouse · 14/10/2021 17:55

Margarita Pie you still haven’t explained whether you think a woman endangers lives when she asserts that sex is sometimes relevant in policy and legislation.

Why are you unable to answer the question? It’s central to the campaign against Dr Stock yet you only seem to be interested in talking about flares.

I've heard Prof Stock is a trustee of LGB Alliance. is this true?

Why don’t you check for yourself on Companies House?

Or like the majority of the students and staff think a small group of loud mouth bullies trying to intimidate a woman out of her post for having the temerity to know the difference between males and female are an embarrassment to the institution and don't want to be connected to the whole sorry shitshow.
prudencepuffin · 14/10/2021 18:56

I hope the stupid idiots turn up in their masks, get shouty and unpleasant, and get themselves arrested, but its probably too much to ask that the police actually do anything. Someone said to me the other day about this: "oh students have always been like this, having demonstrations". This is not a demonstration - it is targetted harassment of a respected woman lecturer for a perfectly legal and ethical view that she holds. If you cant see the difference there isnt much hope for you.

brainegg · 14/10/2021 19:04

@YourMummyIsGC, I work there too. I was just coming on here to ask what we can do to support Kathleen. I have emailed the VC and the new Pro-VC for Culture, Equality and Inclusion. But feel like I should be doing more. Let me know if you have any ideas.

I was feeling hopeful after Adam Tickell's statement last week but I just read this and feel rather like we're all being told off by the headteacher www.sussex.ac.uk/staff/newsandevents/?id=56389

And neither has Margarita explained why they used a letter which relates to a different complaint (social media posts) to state the 'outcome' of the harassment of Professor Stock on campus.

Margarita is now focusing on flares in a desperate attempt to try to keep the focus off the targeted and personal harassment and abuse of a female academic because of her factual, reality based views.

The harassment of Professor Stock, the attack on free speech and the curbing of academic discussion is bringing this debate to a much wider audience. And more and more people people are realising the harm that gender ideology is causing.

Is being a Trustee of an organisation that centres lesbians a crime or something?

If I was a lesbian I would be proud to be a trustee of an organisation a mission to support lesbians who experience both homophobia and sexism. An organisation that believes in respect and free speech, and pledged not to target individuals or engage in insult and abuse, but rely on discussion.

I would feel better supported by that organisation than one that strongly implies that I am a transphobe if I am not sexually attracted by Transwomen and must learn to appreciate Lady Dick.

Anyway, I understand research skills are top notch amongst those who believe that Prof Stock wishes to eliminate Trans people, so I am sure your Googling Finger will be your friend.

Oh bless. Do you need me to do your homework for you?
YourMummyIsGC · 14/10/2021 22:38

It’s neither here nor there whether Stock is a trustee of a particular organisation or not. There are appropriate ways and means of challenging individuals and organisations for their views. This was not it. Let’s not even go there. Nobody deserves this kind of treatment.

foxgoosefinch · 14/10/2021 22:49

She’s on their website as a trustee. What’s the big deal? 🤷‍♀️ A registered charity will be quite open and transparent about who is a trustee, it’s public information.

I’m a charity trustee myself - it involves quite a lot of training in governance obligations and legal responsibility, and what the role involves is very regulated and public. I don’t quite know why you’re making a strange issue out of it at all, Margarita.

Crime of the century, no doubt.

Yet Margarita seems to see nothing wrong with a certain Uni student posting numerous photographs of imitation firearms online whilst threatening to use 'trfs' as target practice.

(*that's assuming they're imitations, the student was trying to pass them off as real, and one in particular looks very convincing.)

But yeah...being a lesbian that's a Trustee of a charity exclusively for same-sex attracted people... burn the witch! 🙄

What is it that you're trying to tell us here?

I mean some thousand people sign a libellous petition and that justifies the harassment of a university employee by students and others? For having opinions? That state facts and argue for the protection of all under existing UK law? Are you saying that people should be sacked for wanting to uphold existing laws? For being a trustee for an organisation that seeks to defend the rights of their group as protected under existing equality law?

I dread to think what other opinions you'd like to be made a sackable offence.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 14/10/2021 23:19

Politics Live have corrected the lie by the person yesterday who accused Kathleen of ''wanting to eliminate trans people''.

Why do we think that is, Margarita etc? Truth being a defence to libel and all that, can't be hard to find the evidence on a quick fact check, there is apparently lots floating around on social media, with TRAs highlighting the relevant bits of the document etc.

Rummikub · 14/10/2021 23:25

Discussing on question time now.
Prog Robert Winston has just said you cannot change sex.

Igneococcus · 15/10/2021 08:02

Today's article in the Times, about bookshops not displaying Kathleen Stock's book:

It's not a secret.

You know that Google thing? The thing you use to find the quotes and bits and bobs you misrepresent? You can use it to find out if what you have 'heard' (and the rest of us have read straight from the woman and the organisation themselves).

Come on Margy you can do better than that!

Bought one copy of the book and thinking of buying several more - bookshops wont stop people buying it, they will just lose custom to amazon again. Objecting employees should find themselves another job, because if they cut their business's profits they will put them out of business.

EdgeOfTheSky · 15/10/2021 12:29

For a book in the Amazon top 100 I am surprised bookshops are willing to concede so much business.
