Absolute disgrace. Posters on campus calling for her to be sacked. Academic colleague tweeting that he agrees with this. twitter.com/FrancescoFv37/status/1445727937660076032?t=-Di7mRf5sznFvvzww8UI2w&s=19 I saw a tweet saying there was a burning in effigy. Can't confirm this but nothing would surprise me now. Time for Sussex staff, students and alumni to put their heads over the parapet.

Did you read that before you posted it, again?

They "read the account... material on the internet can offend etc."

Nothing to do with the actions taken by the masked protestors.

Jesus Criminy!!

merrymouse · 13/10/2021 17:55

Hello MargaritaPie.

As you are back, could you explain whether you think a woman causes harm when she asserts that biological sex is sometimes relevant to policy and legislation.

Thank you.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 13/10/2021 17:57

I think the police letter refers to the Instagram account. Not the masked protesters setting off flares on campus.

HoardingSamphireSaurus · 13/10/2021 18:05

It oes. And Margey has had that pointed out to her before.

Doesn't stop her re-posting it as some kind of evidence of her own obtuseness of something or other!

SpindleWharl · 13/10/2021 18:28

Just for the record, complaints went in to the Sussex Police even today that the likes of the Margies will know nothing about, about safety concerns of female academics re threats and targeted intimidation.

There's a fair bit happening.

Yepnothatfeeling · 13/10/2021 18:48

Good to hear Spindle - because with all the rhetoric around currently about how women and girls should live without fear of violence, without action being taken, it starts to look like only women with 'acceptable' views should live without this threat.

Waitwhat23 · 13/10/2021 19:58

@MargaritaPie

"Meanwhile Sussex Police have said they are investigating, with a spokesman saying: On Wednesday, we received a report of harassment of an employee at the University of Sussex and we are investigating"

Here's the outcome of that

The outcome of what? That appears to relate to online harassment. It doesn't mention anything to do with flares, bullying and abusive behaviour, and security having to be arranged for Dr Stock due to worries about her safety.

You wouldn't use a letter relating to a different complaint entirely to claim that it is the outcome of the current complaints surely?

I mean, that would be incredibly dishonest.

silentsussex · 13/10/2021 20:34

An anti-Stock protest is planned for Saturday at noon. Attendees are being advised to conceal their identities.
Just in case anyone was in the area and fancied going along to counter-protest...

foxgoosefinch · 13/10/2021 21:12

What is interesting is that these young people must know that the majority of people in this country either share Kathleen Stock’s opinions, or are for the most part far less tolerant of the whole thing! (Or maybe they don’t, because they’re stuck in a social media bubble?)

But what do they think will be achieved by this - do they think they are winsomely converting the populace to their views? Or do they plan on picketing every mum, gran or middle aged man in the country who isn’t on board? Or is it just an exercise in terrorising and intimidating other people so they are afraid to air their opinions - like so many little Stasi officers?

Probably a mixture of all those. But has it not occurred to them to think that the vast majority of society is not going to be endeared to their views by these performances? Or that eventually the average person is going to get sick and tired of antics like this and start putting their collective foot down?

SpindleWharl · 13/10/2021 21:25

An anti-Stock protest is planned for Saturday at noon.

I thought all four of them were planning to be at FILIA?

I hope the police will be aware of this, in case it turns nasty.
AnyOldPrion · 13/10/2021 23:04

Even Alex Sharpe can tell that sacking Kathleen Stock would be a step too far.

Anyone else thinking the relatively rational plotters at the heart of the carefully planned takeover, who have taken us so far into the erasure of women’s rights are finding their less rational foot soldiers problematic (again)?

It’s very clear what will happen on Saturday.
All the thugs will turn up faces covered - it’ll very obviously be a MRA protest.

They’ll be out for aggression and violence.

They’ll be a group of counter protestors - women with placards.

The MRA will be violent but the reporting will be that those women threatened then and were trying to kill them. All sorts of emotive language will be used to justify their violence against the women.

The women will be blamed.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 14/10/2021 08:22

Will there even be counter protestors? I don’t see why they would bother. It’s not like a protest at an actual event where you want to lend support to those attending.

Re Alex Sharpe, isn’t Alex in a university post? If the wheels look like they might fall off the wagon soon and you are a TRA academic you definitely don’t want a culture to have been established of sacking academics for their views.

Onyernelly · 14/10/2021 08:26

@TheCountessofFitzdotterel

I really hope there will not be counter protestors.

Leave them to it I say.

Cowards. (I mean the people involved in the anti-Stock protests.) Stock stands up for what she believes in. She is easily identifiable. But for protestors to conceal their identities means that they want rights but not responsibilities.

Vile people.

thirdfiddle · 14/10/2021 09:01

But for protestors to conceal their identities means that they want rights but not responsibilities.

Shows they know what they're doing is wrong.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 14/10/2021 09:37

I bet they don’t see it that way. They will be telling themselves it proves the state is oppressive and probably fascist and they are heroic resistance types. They love the drama, stupid kids.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 14/10/2021 09:46

Here's the outcome of that

No it isn't. I saw further responses on Twitter as they obviously realised that wasn't good enough. Do keep up.

It does. Only bullies feel the need to cover their faces as they know they are in the wrong. I say ignore for the tantrum throwing toddlers they are. Bet that will piss them off in a major way...

I'm an academic at Sussex (made an account to come on here) and it really, really pains me to see what is happening to my university. I have so many colleagues who are working extremely hard, care about their students, who are good researchers and not ideologues. However, a small group of 'activist' academics are ruining our reputation for their own selfish reasons. But management is also to blame. The idea that our campus is in any way 'transphobic' is laughable. Trans and non-binary identities are centred at Sussex. Most academics just want to get on with their jobs but I can't see how we can go back to normal after this.

So sorry for those of you on the front line of all this, YourMummyIsGC How can those of us outside the University best help, do you think? What can we do? Does it help to woman the barricades and up the ante even more? Write considered letters to the press and the Powers That Be?
AnyOldPrion · 14/10/2021 16:52

Sorry to hear it’s so difficult, Your. When you say the management are also to blame, do you mean actively so, or simply that they’ve stood by and watched it happen, rather than doing their job and intervening?

yourhairiswinterfire · 14/10/2021 16:58

Politics Live have corrected the lie by the person yesterday who accused Kathleen of ''wanting to eliminate trans people''.

"I'm an academic at Sussex"

I've heard Prof Stock is a trustee of LGB Alliance. is this true?
