Just seen this:

As pointed out, where are the badges for people with learning disabilities?

Inclusion excluding people with real needs.

@Dreamprincess

Mary Onuoha is sueing Croydon General Hospital as she says she was bullied out of her job for wearing a cross. (She is a Christian.) Although I believe she is basing her case on religious grounds, I wonder, if she is unsuccessful, whether this will change any minds in the NHS about wearing identifiable symbols of belief.
This is an interesting point.

One of the reason, I'd have said, that people like nurses or doctors can in fact be seen to wear something like that, or maybe even more so something like, say, a turban on a Sikh doctor or nurse, is because they have such a strong reputation for care outside of those kinds of personal group memberships. We know that ultimately, ever person has convictions whether they are expressed through religion or not, and we expect fair and compassionate treatment by all workers in that environment.

I think people who support these rainbow schemes in some ways see them as a further expression of that kind of approach. I tend to think of them as the opposite though, because what it is doing is saying, actually, you can't depend that despite the personal convictions and group memberships we all have as people and citizens, you'll get care. There is a statement that there is a need for this extra layer of messaging that is actually straddling this odd line between the personal and institutional.

@MargaritaPie

My mistake sorry, it's Maya Forstartar who became outraged because a cop car had a rainbow on it, not Posie Parker.
I don't think she's randomly losing it over a rainbow picture.

If you read the thread you'd probably understand a bit more about this.

SeaRabbit · 05/10/2021 17:25

I was at a vaccination centre where all the staff were wearing smart new rainbow lanyards. I plucked up courage and said to the two women jabbing me that, as a woman, they made me feel intimidated. I don't think they understood the points, but I felt I had to make a stand.

MargaritaPie · 05/10/2021 17:26

"If you read the thread you'd probably understand a bit more about this

I read the thread. I'm still struggling to understand why a cop car with a rainbow on it is a "threat to women's rights".

As one of the commenters said: "Maya is so far down the Glinner rabbit hole she has reached the point of no return".

PickAChew · 05/10/2021 17:34

@ErrolTheDragon

One of the photos upthread appears to have double pink lines.

Isn't pink one of the colours which may appear greyish to people with some sorts of colour blindness?

They're double red lines - no parking or waiting at any time, no exceptions.

Am I missing something? What's Glinner got to do with the price of fish?

Oh...are you one of those that thinks women aren't capable of thinking for themselves and if they do think or say anything ''out of line'', it must be because a manz is corrupting their little lady brains?

Try reading again then a bit more carefully. Multiple posters have explained this.

And no, just saying people are crazy doesn't make their views and needs go away.

Ah, good. They've probably just faded a bit.

So proud of our updated crossing in Wimbledon (not!) especially when I read what it was highlighting (at a time when the murders of women were in the headlines)....
"The new crossing has had an update and now includes representation for black and trans pride, tying in with this year’s Hate Crime Awareness Week – from 9-16 October – which is focusing on trans hate crime."

It looks like that one does have lights so not as dangerous as colouring a zebra.

ArtemesiaK · 05/10/2021 18:20

Perhaps not, but still ugly, and using my council tax to promote a cause I don't agree with (the T ++++++++ bllcks, I mean, not the LGB).....

Maybe worth an enquiry or FOI to the Council to ask how much this has cost to install and the ongoing maintenance costs?
KittenKong · 05/10/2021 18:34

I’d love to see a CBA as well. Wonder what they aim to get out of it?

Piapiano · 05/10/2021 18:44

I might be wrong but I'm sure some Christians lost their jobs as nurses because they wore cross necklaces. There was definitely a British Airways case where someone was fired for wearing a cross necklace. The reason was that political/religious statements shouldn't be made on these uniforms. So how is the rainbow allowed as it has become deeply political?

PronounssheRa · 05/10/2021 18:52

As one of the commenters said: "Maya is so far down the Glinner rabbit hole she has reached the point of no return".

Ah this old chestnut. Silly little women who can't think for themselves are being led by a man. Seriously.

Yes she was told to remove it. She refused. She had to wear a lanyard with a pass and a bunch of keys around her neck - but a gold crucifix on a chain at her throat wasn’t allowed (when other faiths were not asked to remove anything).
spongedog · 05/10/2021 19:44

@AnyFucker

I work in the NHS and I got an email the other week with a sign off name then she/her

Oh, how I laughed. And puked.

But what does your pronoun name say? Eg

Ms. Anyfucker [Clearly insert real name]
Don't give a fuck/dont give a fuck [is that too long?]

I need ideas for when this gets launched at my work place.

I know a university chaplain who did this, for the meeting pronoun-badge which they required everyone to wear.
KittenKong · 05/10/2021 22:24

Doe/adeer/afemaledeer

headintheproverbial · 05/10/2021 22:37

The problem is that the vast majority of people the rainbow is just about not being homophobic. They don't actually think it has to do with gender ideology (if they even know what that is) and so can't possibly imagine what could be wrong about a rainbow lanyard

That as well. I've seen Gender Criticals mad about rainbow lanyards too for some reason I must be missing?

Is it the 1950s again? LGBT rights are bad?

HeyYouGuuuuuuys · 06/10/2021 02:02

I got given one of these at work and I said I'm not gay they said we needed a % of our department to be wearing them to show 'solidarity' and I'd been chosen as one. Hmm
