Freddie thread zapped

The usual:
'Message from MNHQ: There are a few posts here breaking talk guidelines and reading through we don't think the thread is in the spirit of the site. We felt best to remove it.'

Someone (Freddie) goes on the radio and claims that mangling the English language doesn't harm women, just a few days after we've been called 'bodies with vaginas' by the Lancet. We've been dehumanised and reduced to a single hole, but no harm done, eh?

Women are angry, but we may not discuss our anger.

Bloody fabulous.

@MumsnetHQ, as someone who is new to "breaking talk guidelines", are you able to offer any more information? Maybe some specifics? This is a really important conversation and it feels awful to be silenced. Even a warning first would have been better than just removing. I've read plenty of these types of posts before and some of them get far worse IMO!

MonsignorMirth · 27/09/2021 19:18

It's very common for any thread on a specific individual to be deleted, as they are prone to speculation etc.

I think the exceptions are people whose job it is to have their words and deeds analysed eg politicians.

HopeClearwater · 27/09/2021 19:21

That person WENT ON NATIONAL RADIO and we can’t talk about it?

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 27/09/2021 19:21

MNHQ tends to have issues with discussing individual people as opposed to more general themes.

So I think it is ok to muse in general that it is odd that a female with gender dysphoria would choose to do the most female thing possible.

Or to consider questions around how children are affected by a trans parent.

It's not ok to make personal comments or hypothesise stuff around named individuals (unless I think their entire personal life is already in the media eg Jazz Jennings).

Artichokeleaves · 27/09/2021 19:23

Although when someone uses the platform of radio to share a very specific message that is a very particular belief and interpretation of facts with a very serious outcome for half the human race....

It's not really fair to insist that half the human race may not voice their differing beliefs and interpretations of the facts to protect that speaker, even in their own defence.

ReeseWitherfork · 27/09/2021 19:23

Tricky set of circumstances though, if more transmen gave birth then it wouldn't be about one individual. Unfortunately there's only one to ever have done it.

Just can't work out why this one is worse than, say, some of the Mridul Wadhwa threads.

Thelnebriati · 27/09/2021 19:23

Before this thread is zapped for being a TAAT, enjoy!

So it’s fine by Mumsnet that Freddy who is a journalist, so can use words all the time and have them published but we are not allowed to use this website to discuss about our perfect reasonable observations about Freddy ? Have got that right?

BernardBlackMissesLangCleg · 27/09/2021 19:23

bloody hell, hasn't this person made a career out of being a ''man who got pregnant'?

MidsomerMurmurs · 27/09/2021 19:24

That “interview” on PM was definitely “not OK”. Can we get the PM programme deleted? Why not?

Mumsnet is going downhill fast.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 27/09/2021 19:25

I think and it is a PITA trying to figure out the rules, that we can discuss what Freddie said, but not Freddie.

Rhannion · 27/09/2021 19:25

There are a few male presenting women in the USA & UK who have given birth, Freddy certainly isn’t the only one.
MidsomerMurmurs · 27/09/2021 19:26

@ItsAllGoingToBeFine

I think and it is a PITA trying to figure out the rules, that we can discuss what Freddie said, but not Freddie.
But what Freddie says is almost always entirely about Freddie though.
ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 27/09/2021 19:27

Freddy is the only one who has used their pregnancy / birth to try and change the law afaik?

ReeseWitherfork · 27/09/2021 19:27

@Rhannion gosh how curious, thank you.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 27/09/2021 19:29

But what Freddie says is almost always entirely about Freddie though

I know, I think we need to take what they say about themselves and apply it to the general population? Eg Freddy has a GRC and chose to have a child. And then a general discussion of how the law around GRCs is enforced, with no discussion of how this may apply to Freddie.

It's a nightmare trying to negotiate the rules.

Datun · 27/09/2021 19:31

Personally, because I know threads are reported and not pre moderated, the fact that it was reported and deleted speaks volumes.

Way, way more than one single solitary thread talking about one single solitary person would have done.

It always does.

The sunlight shining on censorship is invaluable, and does most of the work for gender critical women.

This thread will, of course, be deleted. But not before more people have shielded their eyes from the sunlight.

HopeClearwater · 27/09/2021 19:34

@Thelnebriati unbelievable

Thanks for sharing

Cerebelle · 27/09/2021 19:37

Some people are more prone to litigation than others and MN is likely aware of that fact.

PaterPower · 27/09/2021 19:38

I heard that “interview” on PM.

The softest of soft-soap questions and he was given space to make a series of statements, unchallenged, in a way that you’d otherwise only expect them to allow if they were interviewing a victim of a horrendous crime.

How did this even begin to meet BBC standards for impartiality and factual reportage?

mumwon · 27/09/2021 19:42

www.drugs.com/pregnancy/testosterone.html#
so I will put this up again because apparently there is no danger to a fetus from a mother - sorry - body with womb - using testosterone - if - they- are along time users surely it would stay in their system - or if they decide to -ah -chest feed Confused Hmm

Clymene · 27/09/2021 19:44

All I will say here is that there is a definite spin on news stories on Radio 4's current affairs programmes. And it appears to be very much down to the presenter.

I guessing Justin Webb and Evan Davies for example, aren't close friends.

Jennifer11 · 27/09/2021 19:54

I'll try again - either you (as an anonymous hypothetical human) want the advantage of being able to grow a child and accept you're a woman or feel uncomfortable about living in a woman's body and so dont do the one thing that a woman's body uniquely can do. You can't have it both ways surely and then ban people from discussion.

Tibtom · 27/09/2021 19:54

Mumsnet is going downhill fast.

Remembering a certain link with a certain kimono Fox Killer's pet project...

CarolineMumsnet · 27/09/2021 19:55

Hello

Firstly, sorry for not posting a warning before deleting the other thread. We do tend to post first as a rule unless we think removing the thread quickly could nip things in the bud. Looking through we can see the thread was actually in full bloom so again - sorry for not posting.

No subject (within reason!) is off limits as such but when the conversation contains quite a few posts from the outset that read more as personal attacks against an individual it's always going to be hard to moderate the thread to get it back on track.

We know technically that this thread is a TAAT but if you want to carry on the original conversation here then let's try that. We just ask that posts are kept on the right side of civil. Hit report if you have any concerns and we'll remove anything that breaks talk guidelines.
