Just a local London story. Far less interest than Sarah Everard, also in London. Far less interest than Gabby Petito thousands of miles away.

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-58639602

Now whatever is it about Sabina Nesser that provokes this apathy???

OP posts:

@HereticFanjo

Breaking news that a 38 year old man has been arrested for her murder.
do we know if this a new arrest or the same person who was arrested previously?
SpittinKitten · 23/09/2021 22:53

@genericuserneeded it's a new suspect - the man in his 40s arrested the other day has been released.
They're also looking for another man and a silver car

I can’t comment on reporting of black/Asian versus white as I don’t feel informed enough about it.

I only noticed this awful story a couple of days ago, but that could be because of reporting restrictions? Or because they already had found her, so the family may have needed time to process it? It can’t really compare with the Sarah everard case due to her being missing for several days, so there was still some hope initially, and her friends were actively seeking publicity.

I have noticed that older women get very little coverage, if any, as if they don’t matter at all. It’s quite shocking actually when you think about it. To think we haven’t got a clue of the scale that this is happening at and are utterly powerless to do anything about it.

ScribblingPixie · 23/09/2021 23:13

I have noticed that older women get very little coverage, if any

There was a serial attacker who targeted men over 55 in my area over a short period of time - two died of their injuries. It was barely reported other than in the local newspaper. The lack of interest was horribly apparent.

nosafeguardingadults · 23/09/2021 23:26

They don't care if you over 40. You just a worthless piece of shit to them. There's also no specialist support for older women victims of domestic violence. No understanding of different needs stage of life. They don't care if older women or middle aged is murdered.

Lateyetagain · 24/09/2021 00:06

It's on CNN today - so it's international news.

Lateyetagain · 24/09/2021 00:08

Beautiful young women victims get a lot of coverage. I don't believe a fat, ugly young woman would get much coverage, and there would probably be online abuse.

FuckmyHead · 24/09/2021 00:33

Sabina Nessa: Murder arrest as police issue CCTV appeal www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-58671588
This man looks like he has blood on his hands?

NiceGerbil · 24/09/2021 00:34

There was a long piece about her on BBC news or newsnight (watched both).

The Sarah everard situation was very unusual.

Women are killed all the sodding time and unless local no one hears about it.

That's the sad fact.

Going to read thread now.

NiceGerbil · 24/09/2021 00:37

It's reclaim these streets.

They are totally different and have a different overall agenda and approach to getting attention, as it were.

NiceGerbil · 24/09/2021 00:39

@weakers

wish i hadn't come here, full of racist black women spreading hate, how awful
And that is an outrageous thing to say.

In my opinion.

NiceGerbil · 24/09/2021 01:00

For me the facts tell the story.

  • Women are killed raped all the bloody time. Even just considering murder there's what 2 or 3 women killed a week.
  • The vast majority of these murders don't get reported past locally
  • Sarah everard I have no idea why over and over there are threads when other women are murdered (I mean the handful that get reported nationally). The media interest was very high for a variety of reasons. Loads of stuff on telly about it being three straw that broke the camels back for women. The media feed the public and the other way. What happened became a symbol, she became a symbol in a way. This happens loads. All over the world. One crime, one victim. Gets picked up and becomes the trigger for an outpouring of anger, despair about that particular issue.
What happened with her was THE EXCEPTION. Comparing reactions of other murders to that reaction is something I don't understand.
  • There is NO DOUBT about 'missing white woman' syndrome. It has been studied. Measured. It is a fact. Anyone who asserts otherwise is wrong.

Remember Nicole Smallman and Bibaa Henry?
That case only came to the public's attention because their mum had clout. Seriously. A woman with impeccable credentials. A woman who was used to using her voice.
The police fucked up.
The family found them.
And then took photos and sent the pics to colleagues on a watsapp group.
It was a totally random murder. Two victims.
I mean that's massive.
Once it hit the press due to the family it got attention.

The police and media attention is definitely biased. I've lived in met area for nearly 50 years. They are appalling.
Murdering then lying about it.
Massive repeated issues/ dishonesty/ telling victims to sod off when reporting rape.
Yes they are racist. No question in my mind. The disproportionate death of black men while being arrested is a testament to that.
Anyway I could go on.

NiceGerbil · 24/09/2021 01:04

This frequent descent into to be blunt. White posters getting their backs up when racism in the police usually the met is boring and pointless.

This is about women being killed. All the time.

Sarah everard was an exception in the press and response.

We hear about very few women who get killed.

If the fact that various biases in the police/ media certainly point to biases. Race class religion. What the woman was like. Drug addict chaotic live / librarian. All that. If that's not something that you like to hear then ignore those posts.

Because infighting between women will NOT help anything.

Fere · 24/09/2021 01:56

As explained here
en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Missing_white_woman_syndrome

NiceGerbil · 24/09/2021 02:11

Yep.

It really bothers me when issues that are massive for women and girls get diverted into other issues.

It's divisive and a waste of time. It does nothing about the actual issue IE the awful shit that is happening (being done) to women and girls.

I don't get it.

We are all female. That is what brings us together on women's rights and safety is all the same.

The FACT that victims are judged by society by the police as more or less worthy of bothering about is shit.

And if women with different backgrounds say well there's this extra shit as well. To essentially say I don't want to hear that. And go off on one. I mean just why? What's the point?

Who does it help? What does it achieve?

KittenKong · 24/09/2021 07:34

It’s caught a R4 interview - I thought (in the pre news promo) that it was about someone from the local Bangladeshi community talking about how the community were taking. But it was just about lack of media coverage.

I got the impression that it wasn’t ‘as planned’ (that was the impression I got) as she was introduced then corrected the interviewer (‘no I haven’t spoken to the family...’).

KaptainKaveman · 24/09/2021 07:58

@weakers

wish i hadn't come here, full of racist black women spreading hate, how awful
How is it possible to discern the racial profile of posters?

Bit of a controversial post.

The OP refuses to address the fact that they have been caught out lying and inventing racial bias against a murder victim due to 'lack of news coverage'. It's been proven that there has been a lot of coverage but the OP won't admit their lies. That is what concerns me about this thread.

ThinWomansBrain · 24/09/2021 07:59

it's awful, and I am not defending it - but it is getting media coverage

How mush have you heard or read about
Ranjith Kankanamalage - murdered in a park 16 August
Tony Eastlake - murdered on the street 29 May

and hundreds more - I know about the two above becuase they are local to me. The media is selective about what it reports, always has been.
In the year to March 2020, there were almost 700 murders in the UK - 14 weekly, up nearly 50 on the previous year. They don't all receive equal attention.

PlanDeRaccordement · 24/09/2021 08:02

I have seen this story too here in France. The BBC also reported last night they’d arrested a 37? 38? yr old man on suspicion of her murder.

I don’t agree it’s not been widely covered.

PlanDeRaccordement · 24/09/2021 08:04

Here is link to La Libre where it’s been reported here not France. It’s not a “local London story” it’s in national and international news.

www.lalibre.be/international/europe/2021/09/23/le-meurtre-dune-jeune-professeure-londonienne-emeut-et-inquiete-le-royaume-uni-une-veritable-epidemie-de-violences-faites-aux-femmes-KLJG4ZM3TZFJXMDSHL36Z7H6XU/

Krustykrabpizza · 24/09/2021 08:04

@Jaysmith71

This is a local London story. Nothing on the national media.

It is reminiscent of Levi Bellfield's final victim on Richmond Green.

I don't live in London and I've seen loads about it. A CCTV image of the suspect is out. I've seen it on multiple news websites, social media, and full reports on TV prime time news.

I don't know what you are talking about.

KittenKong · 24/09/2021 08:05

One man arrested and another being looked for..

PlanDeRaccordement · 24/09/2021 08:06

*here in France

lboogy · 24/09/2021 08:08

There is a lot of media coverage now and that's because people on social media pointed out the glaring lack of coverage.

As for 'racist black women' such a ridiculous oxymoron from someone who clearly doesn't know what racism is

PlanDeRaccordement · 24/09/2021 08:09

Doing some searches and it is also being reported on in the US by Sky, CNN, Washington Post, Fox News
