Excluding trans

This is a step in the right direction at long last....

Ed Milliband has popped up again.

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 22/09/2021 19:14

I think it's a toxic alloy of projecting their own emotions on to women and a lifetime spent ignoring anything women, especially feminists, had to say.

If any adult women go around feeling threatened by other women's appearances, they won't be the dreaded radical feminists! Grin We think it's patriarchal oppression to value women (including ourselves!) on our appearance rather than the content of our characters.

Whatiswrongwithmyknee · 22/09/2021 19:25

@averylongtimeago

It's only "some" spaces "when justified". They haven't won my vote back yet.
Indeed and I think it would be best if a man decided on which spaces and when it's justified. No need to listen to any women in this: not now we've regressed to 19th centuries ideas about what a woman is.
flippertyop · 22/09/2021 19:41

@timeisnotaline totally agree with you. I never had any issue with TW before some decided that females had no rights as a sex category. I feel for the TW who have been caught in the middle. Genuine gender dysphoriA. Minding there own business and treating females with respect - understanding they are not the same and never can be.

NettleTea · 22/09/2021 19:47

@ArabellaScott

It's an odd point, isn't it, Pots?

scared of women more feminine than them

My femininity varies. It's not generally speaking a fixed or 'innate' thing, it depends on mood. Because 'femininity' is gender - it's just a collection of arbitrary behaviours. I am not scared of feminine women, nor of feminine males, for that matter.

Will always be a woman, though. From before birth to until every cell of my bones has decayed.

I think the threat is that all the men will want to shag them and not us

To be honest, given the way the porn fuelled sex is going, Id be quite relieved

QueenPeary · 22/09/2021 19:58

Karens who are scared of women more feminine than them

Ooh look my eyes just rolled out and away across the floor Hmm

I’m not particularly feminine. I don’t need to be feminine to be a woman.
If I had a problem with other women being more feminine than me, I could make an effort to be feminine too, but I can’t be arsed.

Yet more utter confusion over what being a woman is actually like…

They can have the men, have all of them!

I’ve said on many threads, if my DH were to die or we split, even though I’m only mid 40’s, I’ll live out my days quite happily single. I mean that.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 22/09/2021 20:00

think Starmer would do well to remember that the conversation about this that’s inevitably going to detonate on Twitter is not at all representative of how this will go down with the ordinary people in the street.

Tbh I think he's at least partially aware of that or he wouldn't have made the comment he did.

QueenPeary · 22/09/2021 20:02

Agree! TW are welcome to do femininity, submission, simpering, whatever other stereotypes they are enamoured of, and are welcome to the kind of men who like that.

By not being feminine I rule out the kind of men who like that. That’s a plus not something I’m sad about.

RedDogsBeg · 22/09/2021 20:05

In their dreams.

The internet is awash with TW bemoaning the fact that the men they would like to date/shag won't contemplate dating them let alone shag them, hence the accusations of transphobia being flung about.

ArabellaScott · 22/09/2021 20:09

Ah, I see. No, thank you.

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 22/09/2021 20:14

Sorry to disappoint anyone, but I am wholly unperturbed by the thought of men considering Jane Fae et al sexually attractive. None of my business what consenting adults do in the privacy of their own bedrooms.

It's this, and they think a) it's true and b) we'd care.

Bless them Grin.

"We're more fuckable than you boring old regular women" is a common claim. If fuckability is your number one goal in life, that might sound really important and poignant.

SpindleWorld · 22/09/2021 20:29

@Helleofabore

the Karens' fragile femininity…

I am going to suggest it to the band. I am sure that The Karens will think that 'Fragile Femininity' would be a bloody excellent song.

As sung by the awesome Poly Styrene:

Oh fragile femininity
Up yours, up yours
That fragile femininity
Makes me bored, so bored
I can't take the tiny kitten brains, no more
Oh fragile femininity
Up yours

I am ready to cede any and all possibility of diverting male attention away from those who crave the validation.

In my case this means I shall continue my lifelong practice of never wearing make-up and only wearing comfortable clothes.

If I had a Twitter account, the mere notion of the fox killer stating in public that he wants to slide into my DMs (as he did with Shon Faye) would be enough to make me considering hiring a DDoS attack on Twitter servers.

For the first time in my life, I didn't vote last time. No-one to vote for! Don't like Boris or Starmer. Don't like the Lib Dems or the Greens. I did look at the SDP policy on Trans and it seems good. I live in Wales, so I am sure Drakeford and his lot will be elected again.

A little reasearch (and not believeing what the press say) is helpful. The Independant have only quoted a small part of the statement. I would suggest reading it all before basing a view on the selective quotation. You may not like the rest as much.

FlyingOink · 22/09/2021 20:47

I didn't have a clue who to vote for. I will never vote Tory. Can't vote libdem. Greens would've been attractive to some extent but...

See, this is just it. Not picking on you MonsignorMirth, I've read this in a few places. Unless you're willing to deny these politicians your vote, (they don't care about your inner turmoil), the policies won't change.
Votes cast while holding one's nose count the same as votes cast in joyful glee.

Most annoyingly, women seem to be scared of the consequences of Labour staying out of power, mainly for other people. The consequences for the vulnerable. What fucks me off about Starmer is that you have to get into power to be able to help anyone. And in choosing to please a small number of vocal Twitter users, he alienates millions of voters.

Whose fault is it Labour are doing so badly? Labour. They have made active choices to be less electable, to spin down the purity spiral.

Millions left because they were bored of being called thick and racist, and millions more will leave because they're bored of being called transphobic and fascist.

Ultimately that's what they've chosen to do. And it's not like the opinions of the general public are hidden and unknowable. Hardly anyone believes a man should be locked in a women's prison.

FlyingOink · 22/09/2021 20:56

I hate being guilt tripped by Labour supporters and activists who insinuate that I'm heartless and cruel for not voting red despite everything. I'm not heartless or cruel, but I'm not going to be put in a position where I vote away the existence of women in law because I'm being threatened with disabled people being starved out of their homes.

Who has put me in that situation? Labour activists who know they can manipulate people's emotions and get women to swallow all kinds of shit because we don't want bad things to happen to vulnerable people. It's the epitome of emotional blackmail.
Just like you shouldn't stay with an abuser because they threaten to kill themselves, sometimes it's better to cut them off completely. I've gone from Labour voter to party member to where I am now. If they don't want my vote, fuck 'em.

Theeyeballsinthesky · 22/09/2021 21:11

Ahhhh it’s lecture time for us bad women. Worry not RMW - we dont like labours statement as it stands & we don’t trust Keir further than we can throw him

We know keir will never commit to single sex spaces but then he’s never going to get a sniff of power anytime soon so it’s immaterial

If I was going to put up a post that made it obvious I’d only read the first post but wanted to imply that I was the only one who was bright enough to understand what was really happening, despite not having read the discussion in which multiple people look at the statement from many different angles, I’d probably make sure I spelled it all correctly Grin

What's that saying from Sarah Hagi?

Lord, grant me the confidence of a mediocre forumite. One who has never deigned to RTFT but still has a more informed grasp than everyone else because reasons

(I may be paraphrasing.)

I'm cautiously hopeful. He's a politician and fairly pragmatic by his past actions. No politician with a nouse of sense could have seen what happened to Ed Davey at the weekend and think 'this is a good idea.' IF they ever come out in favour of women's rights it wont be because they care, it'll be because they think it will help them win the next election. The more we shout, the more people take the piss, the more sunlight, the less attractive gender ideology looks.

His biggest problem is the vocal part of the membership that are identarian cranks, until he can defeat them he's stuck. It took Kinnock a decade.
