Not sure what time...

She's getting mentioned in the headlines, Starmer is going to have to face this issue head on this week.

Yamayo · 20/09/2021 07:13

Well that's helpful... Grin

AsTreesWalking · 20/09/2021 07:15

Heard a lot about her on R4 today - good. But they keep saying it's about Rosie's views on 'transgender rights', when, of course, she's actually concerned about women's rights.
Hope that gets fixed in the upcoming interview.

Popuptent · 20/09/2021 07:18

I think they said she was going to be interviewed this morning.

Tuning in then…..I bet they’ll squeeze her in at three minutes to nine and “not have enough time” though. Doubt she’s doing to get the coveted 8.10 slot.

Popuptent · 20/09/2021 07:49

On now!

Now

Cwenthryth · 20/09/2021 07:55

Aargh missed the start as my radio messed up.

She’s making a good point here that the offence goes both ways, appropriation of gay culture etc.

Clymene · 20/09/2021 07:56

You can wind back to the start of the interview on the bbc sounds app. Worth listening to the intro

TedImgoingmad · 20/09/2021 08:01

She's not going to the conference. She doesn't want to be the news story when it is Starmer's first conference.

She doesn't want to subject herself to the online abuse.

She has regular meetings with the police. She doesn't know how this has got out there, because she has only told a couple of people. She had a serious personal security breach at a previous conference. Only told a few people, but somehow the Mail on Sunday got hold of it, and then the false narrative became that she is making herself the victim.

Kier Starmer supportive? Diplomatic answer, but I'm taking that as a no.

RE-tweet of "cosplay" tweet. She says she re-tweeted it because gay rights activists/friends find the "Q" word offensive and the appropriation of gay culture by straight people offensive.

Not clear to her what Labour's policy is. 2017/19 manifestos pledged to uphold the EqA separate women's only space. But not confident that pledge will be upheld in the next manifesto - not been told of a change of policy, but because there is no discussion allowed, she cannot know that is the case.

Was a good solid interview. Justin Webb being challenging but not treating her like a scum bag before she's even spoken (Women's Hour take note).

nettie434 · 20/09/2021 08:02

A good interview I thought. She got the slot after Thought for the Day and before the weather forecast which I think is second to the 8.10 slot in terms of interview time.

crumpet · 20/09/2021 08:11

Agree, is was a decent interview which allowed time

lanadelgrey · 20/09/2021 08:11

Reason and clarity. Interestingly on Westminster Hour last night a female Twaw Lab MP was perfectly happy for debate and place for disagreement in the party, which was also heartening, despite her ‘my trans friend’ story - anecdote is not policy.

Snailhaterz2 · 20/09/2021 08:12

She came across really well, I thought - a very clear, straight-talking person. If I hadn't been aware of this issue beforehand, and had just come across it, I'd have been impressed, and in particular outraged about the amount of abuse that women in the public sphere get. I also liked the way that she didn't back down about re-tweeting what could be seen as a controversial tweet - she put it in context and stood by her views.

FannyCann · 20/09/2021 08:12

Really good interview and she was given her time and not interrupted and talked over.
Keri just can't quite find time for a meeting...

somethinginoffensive · 20/09/2021 08:28

I guess we need to see how the leadership responds now.

Franca123 · 20/09/2021 08:29

You could knock me down with a feather! Well done BBC! They're actually covering this issue finally.

Violetparis · 20/09/2021 08:31

Also thought it was interesting that Justin Webb said it was becoming a major issue in politics. Keir Starmer better get his answers ready for when he is asked about this, seems to be a hot topic in the week of the Labour Party conference where he won't be able to hide from the media.

catzwhiskas · 20/09/2021 08:36

Today programme is certainly nearly the only BBC one which is tackling this in a real way and it is becoming clearer to the general public about who is doing what to whom. A bit too much about tweets though. It would be good to hear something about whether the GRA could be repealed, as it is clearly not fit for purpose. Rosie very good on misogyny and women at the forefront of male abuse.

KittenKong · 20/09/2021 08:37

I’m still doing the ‘I’m mad as hell’ tap dance at the moment. How the hell did we get here...

(Moody Monday morning mode)

Hoppinggreen · 20/09/2021 08:39

Very good interview
She very clearly made the point that any debate is shut down on this subject and also than on this issue and others women in public life are threatened with violence all too readily
Men who make points people disagree with on Twitter are mocked but women are threatened with violence.

2Rebecca · 20/09/2021 08:44

JHB talking about this Talk Radio now. Is planning to wear an Adult Human Female tshirt to Labour party conference

MrsOvertonsWindow · 20/09/2021 08:52

JHB takes no prisoners does she? I disagree with her about all sorts but every time she tackles this issue, I cheer her on.

Abhannmor · 20/09/2021 08:54

Agree @Violetparis leaders of the opposition often struggle for media attention. Whereas even a useless PM is headline news if she/ he steps in a dog turd. It's Conference , his big chance to speak while people are actually listening. He had better wise up on this issue. It's going to be a story , the more so since his other policies remain a bit vague.
