Kaye Adams will be discussing GRC reform on BBC Radio Scotland this morning on her show which is 9- 12

Rhannion · 20/09/2021 09:05

Sorry for hijacking thread but she is speaking to two people, don’t know who, and she says they have dramatically different view points.

Clymene · 20/09/2021 09:12

I think her reframing of the discussion to make it about the risks to women in participating in public life is genius.

littlbrowndog · 20/09/2021 09:15

Her local mp blocked her🤦‍♀️

I'm with @KittenKong. How the fuck has it got to this? How has Nimco Ali - NIMCO ALI - ended up on Labour's hate list? How does the leader of the supposedly good guys - that's you KIER STARMER - say absolutely sod all about one of his female MPs receiving serious death threats and having her security compromised? Allow his MPs to demonise women such as Ali? Do you really, seriously think these women are transphobes. Or is this all about your ambition? You are willing to let women's rights be rolled back 50 years and for women so suffer the sort of misogyny I have never before witnessed in my 50 years. For what? Your chance to redecorate no.10? Do you realise how many of us you have driven away? Do you even care? Don't you want to differentiate yourself a bit from that horror of a human being, Ed Davey?

Why must males be centred in everything? Nobody can have a discussion about women any more, what women uniquely go through, and what women need as a class. Before the RD interview, the 7.30 sport had somebody from UK Netball (unfortunately didn't catch her name) interviewed about getting the sport into the Olympics. For most of the discussion, she was being asked what was being done to get men interested in the sport. Why? Why can't women's netball - a sport many many girls, who are not able to participate in other sports for one reason or other play and enjoy - stand on its own as a valuable commodity?

Every day I am horrified. The airtime this is getting just proves how far this shit-show has gone.

KittenKong · 20/09/2021 10:27

And yes I caught the netball one too. I think it was introduced as ‘Olympics and getting a male team going’ but it did end up mostly ‘can boys play too???’. And she kept saying ‘gender’ so I was ready to thrown the iron at the radio.

Agreed
FannyCann · 20/09/2021 11:25

Agree @KittenKong it makes me want to scream SEX SEX SEX!
At the end I wasn't clear if she wants men to play netball on a men's team, or to open it up as a mixed sex sport, or if it will have men's and mixed sex women's based on gender.

I’ve just seen the 1pm BBC News segment on it.

They’re framing it as a “Trans Rights” issue (with a side order of Free Speech) and they throw the word “controversial” around, as if hers is the sentiment that is against public opinion.

But the BBC, if it were actually trying to be honest and impartial, should be reporting on the substance of what she’s trying to say and stop trying to obfuscate it behind the discussion on safety. (I’m not minimising the latter, but it’s being used as a smokescreen atm)

MoonlightApple · 20/09/2021 13:45

I heard the Today interview and Duffield came across very well. Calm, reasonable and she made her points well.

MrsSlocombesPussy · 20/09/2021 15:11

I saw the report on the 1pm news too. That annoyed me a lot. I transcribed a bit of what the political correspondent said:
'Rosie Duffield has obviously come out with quite kind of controversial stance on transgender issues. This is something which involves people's identities, it involves peoples right to self identify, and to access certain spaces'

Without explaining that it also involves women's rights and our rights to have spaces away from males.
Anyone new to this would have no idea that the controversial stance Rosie has taken is that women have cervixes

Trans people have twice the mortality risk of cisgender men and women, due to being more likely to experience violence, discrimination and homelessness. Trans folks are twice as likely to be victims of crime. According to Stonewall, 41 per cent of trans people and 31 per cent of non-binary people have experienced a hate crime or incident due to their gender identity in the last 12 months. Trans young people are also far more likely than their cisgender peers to try to end their lives, with 45 per cent attempting suicide and 92 per cent considering it.

This is all nonsense. How can the Independent publish this?

If only this claim were true, IPSO is the independent regulator of most of the UK’s newspapers and magazines

www.ipso.co.uk/

You know, independent and a regulator rather than yet another captured organisation with no intention of enforcing evidence-based or ethical reporting practices. James Kirkup has written a fair amount about them, iirc.

Do newspapers have any legal obligation to fact check anything? I don't think they do...?

KittenKong · 20/09/2021 18:46

The Indy has all the journalistic vigour of Viz.
