I'm thinking of going, don't know anyone else who is though. Want to have a meet up?

I really want to but Portsmouth is just too far away from me. Brilliant line-up though.

Anyone else?

I'd love to, but live way too far away Sad

SpringCrocus · 15/09/2021 23:22

Im going.

Fallingirl · 16/09/2021 00:06

I’m going.

In 2019 in Bradford it seemed like every other woman there was a MN’er. Whether they are or not, it’s a really friendly atmosphere, so I wouldn’t worry about company.

I would, however, worry about accommodation if you need it. Many hotels are either fully booked or very pricy. You might be luckier with airbnb. Good luck (and do go if you are tempted, it is a great experience!)

SpringCrocus · 16/09/2021 03:10

I booked six months ago
Seems no rooms available, now.

Cwenthryth · 16/09/2021 03:31

I’m going! Thanks for reminding me. I booked a hotel back in Feb and just had to search through emails to find it but phew do have it.
Will get train tickets sorted now.
I’m going solo and expecting an atmosphere where it’s fine just to chat and socialise with everyone, which is what I’ve experienced at feminist events before.

Cwenthryth · 16/09/2021 04:06

Those who are going, will have been emailed a link to the conference app, and that seems like a safe place to connect etc as it will only be attendees on there

There’s a suggestion on there that staying in Gosport is an idea as well.

Cwenthryth · 16/09/2021 04:50

Have to say, I hadn’t checked the agenda etc recently, but fooking hell the lineup is phenomenal!!!!

It’s like my feminist bookshelf come to life. Some of the more popular sessions are almost full already - only 5 seats left in the Helen Joyce session for example. I think I’m going to go to The Radical Notion/Jane Clare Jones one instead tho.

nzborn · 16/09/2021 06:20

I'm going, see you all there

Kendodd · 16/09/2021 06:31

Ok, I think that's tipped the balance. I'm going to book tickets. Thank you all for the nudge. :)

I'll be there. Thanks for the tip that some of the sessions are filling up.

I booked accommodation back in February, also taking my 13 yo daughter. She's listening to "Difficult Women" on audiobook in preparation 😀

Cwenthryth · 16/09/2021 07:51

Helen Lewis session (on her DW book) is 87/100 seats taken atm. That was a difficult one to decide which session to attend because the options are all so good.

CatsOperatingInGangs · 16/09/2021 07:56

I’d love to go but it’s a 5 hour drive away or a very spendy train ride. Hopefully next year will be more central/northern.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 16/09/2021 08:01

Hopefully next year will be more central/northern.

It was in Bradford last time and Manchester the year before that, it's nice for the part of the country below London to get stuff occasionally.

pecanmix · 16/09/2021 08:26

I wish I could. Just too far for me

Onyernelly · 16/09/2021 08:32

Bradford was fantastic, but unfortunately I’ve left it to late this year.
I’m very jealous of all of you who are going!

Boadicea2 · 16/09/2021 12:43

I'm going. Somewhat anxious about finding no-one to talk to! Also havering about drive or train.

RhymesWithOrange · 16/09/2021 13:06

@Boadicea2 don't worry, if it's anything like the Woman's Place or Women's Liberation event it will be very chatty/friendly Smile

Oh yeah, I don’t resent it being that far south. It should change location each year. Just rather jealous I can’t go Grin

Next year I believe in Cardiff
CatsOperatingInGangs · 16/09/2021 15:59

Yes! Direct train to Cardiff from Manchester

Cwenthryth · 16/09/2021 18:04

I’m wondering whether the rainbow “antifa” brigade are going to be protesting. I was at the LWD Grenfell meeting and it was horrible having to deal with that mob. I know a local group already tried to harrass FiLiA and the venue, I contacted the police about that and they recorded a hate crime incident against them.

Not that it will put me off or I would worry about anything going horribly wrong - I trust FiLiA security and the local police are already aware and monitoring the situation. I expect there will be some kind of presence - the line up has so many high profile feminists, they won’t be able to resist will they :-(

KaycePollard · 16/09/2021 18:18

I’ll be there. Lots of talks are filing up and I think the party is booked out.

I was wondering about protests and security as well @Cwenthryth. I remember the 2020 women’s liberation conference in London ( in the Before Times) and the little crowd of earnest handmaidens telling us we were doing feminism wrongly. If only they knew how many of us had worked hard for so many years to bring about changes so they could do what they do. They know so little of their own history; it’s so sad, really.
