I'm thinking of going, don't know anyone else who is though. Want to have a meet up?

@Cwenthryth we met at WEP 2018 conference didn't we? Looking forward to catching up.

lionheart · 16/09/2021 20:55

@Cwenthryth

Those who are going, will have been emailed a link to the conference app, and that seems like a safe place to connect etc as it will only be attendees on there

There’s a suggestion on there that staying in Gosport is an idea as well.

Yes, Gosport and you can take the ferry across with a short walk to the venue. Fareham and you can take the train which puts you right in the centre.

Yep that’s me! Just replied to you on the conference app as well Wink

(I think at least, if not then sorry for confusing you!)

OldTinHat · 17/09/2021 17:59

I've not heard about this before. I'm very interested. I'll read up about it properly before committing.

Jux · 23/09/2021 15:59

I had really really wanted to go, and it was almost doable, but then hotel.....😢

Anyway, best of luck to you all who do get there, hope the unwelcome rowdy faction isn't uncontainable and the rest of you are as rowdy and happy as you could possibly be! I'm sure some very good work will be done, while you're at it too.

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 23/09/2021 19:47

The Saturday night is incredibly expensive. I booked train and tickets first so felt very committed and just went for it.
But enterprising Portsmouth residents should probably sign up to air b and b.

HotelduLacluster · 23/09/2021 21:24

I’m going with a friend. We can’t wait. We are hoping that we even have party tickets as we purchased them with the original tickets nearly two years ago.

FiLiA have said there will be plenty of security, but I am an old hand at women’s meetings now; kicking on windows, bomb threats, stuck in a hotel, having to be escorted out of a meeting in small groups, you know, all the usual stuff that women have to go through to attend a feminist meeting nowadays.

I hadn’t though to raise a hate crime against the protesters, but that’s a great idea, oh wait, discrimination on the category of ‘sex’ isn’t on the hate crime approved list is it?

I hope to see loads of your there. Maybe we should wear a mumsnet symbol of some kind. I think we wore ‘Mumsnet blue’ ribbons at one of the events?

I have been on here for years, don’t post very frequently, but I do change my user name regularly.

RhymesWithOrange · 24/09/2021 09:16

@Cwenthryth still navigating the conference app - haven't found your message on there but once I do I'll reply.

AnyOldPrion · 26/09/2021 17:34

Anyone know what is going on? Filia is tweeting about women being frightened to attend due to threats.

SpringCrocus · 26/09/2021 18:44

Lots of security arranged, police involved and onboard, say FiLiA.

Interesting that in the eyes of TRAs it's fine for TRAs to wave trans flags (or much worse, in some cases) and we are expected to be f
OK with that, but if they come across a Suffragette ribbon or a sticker or a leaflet or see a t shirt or a meeting standing up for Womens single sex spaces, it's a hate crime and "literal violence" (allegedly)

There have been a vocal minority of people threatening to protest outside the conference.
Filia have their own security (who are badass) they have the venue security and they also have a dedicated local police team who are very aware of all and any threats being made and will be there and act accordingly if these people turn up to harass women.
It sounds scary but women are safe, there will be plenty of security there.

AnyOldPrion · 26/09/2021 19:18

Hope the majority of people will go anyway.

I wish I was going, but I can’t get there.! Maybe next year.

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 26/09/2021 20:35

I've been to so many events now with protests. It's fine. Hopefully police will discourage anything too disruptive but quiet sign holding is fine I think.

risefromyourgrave · 12/10/2021 11:13

Bumping this thread to give everyone who’s going to the conference a heads up that the Great South Run will be held in Portsmouth on Sunday. There’ll be traffic disruption so plan your journeys if you’re driving in then.

Thingybob · 12/10/2021 13:53

It appears there will be an event, rather than a protest, outside the Filia venue this weekend. The plans can be found on stepheplace.co.uk and there's nothing there that seems threatening to me.

In fact I'm welcoming the opportunity to meet and listen to those with opposing view points although I understand others won't feel the same.

Thingybob · 12/10/2021 14:01

Sorry wrong link, the web address is stephsplace.uk but they can be found on twitter too

Mostly men sad that women are meeting without their approval.

purpleboy · 12/10/2021 14:19

At least it won't be hostile, although they really are focusing one one area of FiLIAs activism.

Yeah. That's the kind of gaslighting trans widows recognise.

Eucalyptustrees · 12/10/2021 14:31

This is on the StephsPlace twitter thread.

My blog;

The gender-critical make a big fuss about those de-transitioners who had a mastectomy but appear to toss away women who lost their cervixes because of a hysterectomy like they are lepers.

Nothing is off limits for them to abuse is it? Just hideous.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 12/10/2021 15:25

Not one gender critical feminist woman has ever believed women who have had a hysterectomy aren't women. My mum had to have one at 29. Idiot.

Steph wrote an entire article slagging me off on Steph's website.
Eucalyptustrees · 12/10/2021 16:28

I'm sorry to hear that Tinsel Angle. I'm tempted to go to the protest with a bin to collect Steph's handouts and dispose of them.

Eucalyptustrees · 12/10/2021 16:29

Angel!

It's OK, I give precisely zero shits
