Tonight after Emma Raducanu's victory Jolyon has tweeted

When they're white the Express loves immigrants.

twitter.com/jolyonmaugham/status/1436219230815404035?s=21

I am seething. She is very proud of her mixed heritage. Before the match, the commentary team were talking about how Emma and Laylah Fernandez both come from diverse backgrounds. But Jolyon doesn't bother to check any facts, just assumes she is white Angry

What exactly has he achieved with his life so far??

Made lots of money helping people avoid tax.

dyslek · 12/09/2021 09:47

He's a nincompoop isent he.

TedImgoingmad · 12/09/2021 09:53

There's nothing wrong with talking about Emma's mixed heritage. It is what it is, it's interesting insofar as everybody's background is interesting once they are in the public eye, and of course it's mentioned in the press. The only person who has brought up race - aka skin colour - is Fox Killer. And the only reason he has done this is as some form of gotcha against the Daily Express. He's used an 18 year old CHILD in a political beef that is nothing to do with her, inevitably drawing her into a discussion about how brown/white her skin is, when absolutely nobody was talking about it in the first place.

Really? Don't remember the Express loving me when I lived there Jolyon. And you'd go snow blind looking at me.
Floisme · 12/09/2021 10:01

What a strange thing to say. Still, now that she's won, he has the perfect opportunity to congratulate her fantastic achievement, apologise for not doing so in the first place, and either explain or correct himself, no?

FreeBritnee · 12/09/2021 10:05

He’s just so absolutely sure he’s on the correct side of history with every public comment he makes, isn’t he? You can feel the arrogance of every sentence.

Deliriumoftheendless · 12/09/2021 10:24

@guinnessguzzler

What exactly has he achieved with his life so far??

Well, he did once beat a fox to death with a baseball bat, let's not forget that!

And continued to popularise the cultural appropriation of other races clothing.
ArabellaScott · 12/09/2021 10:28

What an embarrassment that man is.

Spot on. What a fucking disgusting thing to do.

It reminds me a bit of when Owen Jones didn't give a shit about JKR Rowling (in fact he slagged her off and said she made herself a 'martyr' as an abuse victim) and then the very next day used her to have a go at The Sun, who had put her abusers story on the front page.

These men don't give a fuck about women until they can use those women to advance their own profile and agenda.

OldCrone · 12/09/2021 11:02

When they're white the Express loves immigrants.

Isn't the Express very pro-Brexit? Don't they support the pro-Brexit view that we should have more (mainly non-white) immigrants from the commonwealth and fewer (mainly white) immigrants from the EU?

If they were in favour of white immigrants why didn't they support remain and the immigration of white people from Europe?

donquixotedelamancha · 12/09/2021 11:16

I don’t understand why he wouldn’t quickly Google her before tweeting.

Because, for all that the concept of white male privilege is wildly misused, he is the living embodiment of it.

The important thing that people often miss about priviledge is that the largest component of this sort of bullet-proof arrogance is being soaked in wealth from your first breath.

DdraigGoch · 12/09/2021 11:26

Pure virtue signalling and I wasn’t buying it. What a stupid, shallow man with his private tennis courts
@FrancescaContini maybe he really meant "Staff are far too expensive around here. Do you know of a cheap Mexican groundsman?"

GrinQuite possibly! Or perhaps his apparent anguish over the lack of racial diversity was to put feelers out to see if I was racist?? No idea.
MrsOvertonsWindow · 12/09/2021 12:53

He's a deeply unpleasant man. With a worrying history of using women and girls to promote his own bigoted political points.

I presume (and hope) he's not a parent.

Yep.

LazyViper · 12/09/2021 13:28

The Left intelligentsia considers their own ultra race-consciousness as non-racist, which is mindblowing. If articles don’t mention race (because it’s irrelevant to the majority of people?) it’s seen as proof they are irredeemably racist. There can be no way back from the spiral of impurity.

TheWeeDonkey · 12/09/2021 14:35

What does this man do other than cull foxes and troll on the internet?

That's its reputation, yes. However, it's no longer the reality:

Callixte · 12/09/2021 17:48

There was a short feature on this on CNN Europe as well. They interviewed Leylah’s father, who is from Ecuador. Her mother is the daughter of Filipino immigrants. And of course, Emma’s mother is Chinese.

But, I suppose that just as this Maugham character seems to consider himself uniquely qualified to decide who’s female, he’s also uniquely qualified to decide who is white.

yourhairiswinterfire · 12/09/2021 18:08

Someone responded: "She is a beautiful young woman - really pretty as well as amazing."

and Jolyon replied: "The choice of photo was also telling."

Am I missing something? The photo is one of Emma, a tennis player, standing on a tennis court, beaming proudly, holding a tennis racket.

What's ''telling''? The fuck is he on about?! Confused

MoltenLasagne · 12/09/2021 18:09

That's a funny way of saying "Congratulations Emma - what an incredible win"

MoltenLasagne · 12/09/2021 18:13

I mean there are so many amazing things about her story - didn't drop a set, came back after her troubles at Wimbledon, had only been training part time whilst doing her A-levels - yet instead he just uses her as a tool in his vendetta against a newspaper he dislikes. Soo woke Jolyon.

Freespeecher · 12/09/2021 18:48

Adil Ray's been making a few point-scoring tweets too. Why we can't we just enjoy the success of what seems to be a likeable, well-adjusted 18 year old? Hope she's allowed to just focus on playing without various activist types and groups trying to bag her for their own interests.
