"What is a woman?" Politicians unable to answer basic question

This exchange is astonishing.

Members of the Green Party are asked the basic question "What is a woman?" and all but one fail to answer the question.

The only one of them that gave an answer said that being a woman is an attitude.

@somethinginoffensive

My favourite bit of all that was "[some high figure] percentage of women support self-Id".

Oh, so what kind of people are those then?!

Quite! If you can't define what women are, how can you possibly know how many of them support self-ID?

These people are so thick it hurts.

@Keke94LND

My friends response to me saying that it was offensive to imply that infertile women are as much women as trans women are, was 'only if you instinctively view trans women as not women' .. I can't quite find the words to respond tbh
I think you know exactly which words you need here! You’re just too well brought up to use them Grin

@TheWeeDonkey

A man is a feeling, a state of mind. The scent on the breeze (feet and farts), ethereal and yet there (right in front of the cupboard you need to get to).

How did they know who to ask to get that figure I wonder?

'Women are a political class now. They were a social construct. Then a type of mist. Then i think women were the sound a startled deer makes when it finds an intricate doily draped over a honeysuckle bush. Women are so versatile'

It's a year old but not heard before fascinating.

The palpable discomfort at being asked. The grasping for wtf to say that means they can get away with saying nothing.

In other news.

Blokes have been asking the question. What is a woman? For yonks.

And having given it some thought decided what we are.

Or in some cases- the more naval gazing poet types. Concluded that we are unknowable enigmas.

So you know. Plus ca change and all that.

I love it when they have to answer a direct question.

And the easy out would be to say. Straight off. The definition of woman is anyone who says they are a woman.

But they can't quite being themselves to say that. Because they
A. Think it's nonsense and
B. Know that it will not go down well with all awful lot of people

IceLace100 · 07/09/2021 23:23

Just PURE WAFFLE!

The thing that makes me laugh is that you can answer this question in a very simple way if you believe in trans ideology (which FYI I don't).

For instance they could say "a woman is someone born female, with xx chromosomes and socialised as a woman in our society AND a trans-woman is someone born male who now self-identifies as a woman."

Note I don't believe the above. Just demonstrating how incapable these people are of communicating a clear thought.

NiceGerbil · 08/09/2021 01:59

They aren't incapable. They are just in it up to their necks and don't know wtf to do.

Their policy gives an easy answer.

What is the definition of woman?
Anyone who states that they have the gender identity of woman.

But they can't bring themselves to say that because they don't believe it and it's just too much to come out with it.

But saying anything else = all sorts of shit.

So they flail around desperately.

OurMamInHavianas · 08/09/2021 06:07

I bet he knows what a woman is when he wants a shag (and if he’s gay I bet he absolutely knows who he isn’t interested in shagging)

Absolutely this.

Or if they needed a surrogate mother or an egg donor.
Or if they wanted to delegate some “women’s work”.
Or if they needed someone to provide intimate care for their daughter/ wife/sister/mother/grandmother if those loved ones requested a woman.

Read Highwind’s link from a couple of tweets before yours and explain it’s nothing to do with instinct and everything to do with scientific definitions of male and female.

But then that definition inadvertently includes transmen.

So you need a definition that includes people born female with XX Chromosomes and who have been socialised as women in our society and mtf transitioners who self-identify as women, but which excludes all female-born XX chromosomes who don't identify as women. Oh, and you also need to find a replacement word or combination of words for 'women' since otherwise the definition is circular - 'a woman is anyone who identifies as a woman and has been socialised as a woman'.

'A squirlipeg is anyone who identifies as a squirlipeg and has been socialised as a squirlipeg'.

Let's face it, those politicians believe that a person with a womanly gender identity is someone who wants to wear high heels, dresses and make-up. They just don't want to say it out loud.

Absolutely spot on.

Or if a witness to a serious crime - was the offender male or female?

Climate change is the biggest threat that our whole planet is facing and these muppets are supposed to be gaining political power to fight this?

I’d vote for the Greens if they could just concentrate on green issues.

All four of them come across as being thick as mince.

ErrolTheDragon · 08/09/2021 12:51

They can't say that because it say that transwomen aren't women.
