"What is a woman?" Politicians unable to answer basic question

supercalie · 07/09/2021 09:45

This exchange is astonishing.

Members of the Green Party are asked the basic question "What is a woman?" and all but one fail to answer the question.

The only one of them that gave an answer said that being a woman is an attitude.

ehhh that's not a very conclusive answer. What's a female then?

Are you saying you don't know what a female is, or have I failed to detect sarcasm

ErrolTheDragon · 07/09/2021 15:44

Do you really not know?
(I don't believe anyone honestly doesn't know.)

@Lottapianos

'I can't stand how much he does not try to understand women's points of views!'

I hear you. I've had similar with a male friend of mine. They just honestly don't see woman as important or deserving of consideration. Issues like single sex spaces are no skin off their nose. They don't get it, and have no motivation to try to get it. My male friend describes himself as a feminist (of course!) but honestly doesn't have a bloody clue. It's beyond depressing

I've also noticed that whenever I talk about this issue or ANYTHING to do with women's issues, he often doesn't respond, but if I talk about any other groups issues such as issues around race, he's very opinionated on it.. I understand that people can care about something but feel more passionately about something else, for example I care about men's issues.. but feel more passionately about women's issues, but I can't ignore the silence that follows after bringing up a woman's issues tbh, if any other historically oppressed group of people was told that they are defined by an attitude, he would be outraged
Lottapianos · 07/09/2021 15:48

'.. if any other historically oppressed group of people was told that they are defined by an attitude, he would be outraged'

And I'm guessing he has absolutely no self awareness about this enormous gaping hole in his woke bro manifesto?

I've got my bingo card out ready just in case it wasn't sarcasm. Dabber currently hovering over "intersex".

Just parking this here...

Worth a read to anyone who is unsure what defines a species sex/thinks sex exists on a spectrum etc.

Mine's on 'not all women can have children, are you saying they're not women?'

SweetGrapes · 07/09/2021 16:46

@VaggieMight

How dare that man imply 'cis' women unable to have children are the same as transwomen. How fucking dare he.
This one stood out for me too! A women with reproductive issues is not the same as a man.

He says it like it's some gotcha. Stupid, misogynistic man.

Important to note that I've had to identify as a man in order to grasp the dabber. Ephemeral beings and states of mind don't interact so easily with solid objects.
Keke94LND · 07/09/2021 16:55

My friends response to me saying that it was offensive to imply that infertile women are as much women as trans women are, was 'only if you instinctively view trans women as not women' .. I can't quite find the words to respond tbh

KittenKong · 07/09/2021 16:59

“Are you taking the piss?” is the phrase that I find I am using these days...

FlyingOink · 07/09/2021 17:01

Keke94LND
Ask him if he respects your identity and your rights?
Then probably get rid, he doesn't sound like much of a friend tbh. A lack of empathy there.

I believe Kittens response is perfect for this

He’s being a complete bellend

I bet he knows what a woman is when he wants a shag (and if he’s gay I bet he absolutely knows who he isn’t interested in shagging)

KittenKong · 07/09/2021 17:14

Or I channel my inner 4 year old...

How?
How?
But how?
Howzit?
It isnae - how?
But howwwwwwww?
Nah. Make me.

TheWeeDonkey · 07/09/2021 17:37

I would like to know what that attitude is because mine veers between pissed off, annoyed, fed up and incredulous.

Is that the right attitude?

My attitude to men being compared to women with fertility issues is simmering rage. I hope I'm womaning right.

IceLace100 · 07/09/2021 17:45

Being a woman is an "attitude"

Tell that to my fucking periods. Soz, you're just an attitude.

tootiredtobother · 07/09/2021 17:50

Just checking.. no ones asking 'what is a man' then ???
so why is a woman simply NOT A MAN

Its hot and im grumpy

TheWeeDonkey · 07/09/2021 17:56

A man is a feeling, a state of mind. The scent on the breeze (feet and farts), ethereal and yet there (right in front of the cupboard you need to get to).

MrsOvertonsWindow · 07/09/2021 18:14

The great thing about this question is that they all sound such idiots when they answer. Incoherent, devious and not to be trusted. It really should be the standard question for politicians as it show up the liars straight away.

WarriorN · 07/09/2021 18:34

"Being a woman is an attitude."

Fuck. Off.

Tell that to all the women and girls raped, sexually assaulted or denied education or their educational choices (my grandmother being one) because they're women. They all had attitude, those that dared and those that dare.

And it made and makes no difference.

WarriorN · 07/09/2021 18:35

This was all buzzwords and cry bigotry; not one person talked about the structural political issues and needs that necessitate clarification on what a woman is, let alone safeguarding for all women but particularly girls, and indeed boys who think they can become a girl or a woman.

somethinginoffensive · 07/09/2021 18:52

My favourite bit of all that was "[some high figure] percentage of women support self-Id".

Oh, so what kind of people are those then?!

nananacomeon · 07/09/2021 18:59

Not one mention of dna. Or biology.

Ffs

NewlyGranny · 07/09/2021 19:47

How does a political party that cannot identify women propose to plan for their needs if elected? Except
of course, they know they won't be.

And all those men friends claiming to be feminists: what are they actually doing to further the cause? Words alone don't count.

NewlyGranny · 07/09/2021 19:48

The cognitive dissonance was audible.
