Does she not realise that Afghan refugee women will need single sex spaces to take part in public life in the UK? They’re covering their hair for modesty all day long but will be fine to get naked next to EI or CJ in girl mode?

Cailleach1 · 02/09/2021 22:33

I suspect those people who try to present male reproductive organs as being female, are ok with the indecent exposure of same. Even to children. Didn't someone say that the kiddies shouldn't be so awful as to see the male who was indecently exposing himself. In my view, those fellow travellers are a little perverse themselves to be cheerleading that. I think they are complicit in trying to pretend sex offenders are not just to be tolerated, but to be celebrated.

It appears to me that they think the male sex offenders who do that are fine, as long as they identify as female. So, I don't think they will give a toss about the alleged sex offence or indecent exposure in Wi Spa.

I wonder if the women present, and mother on behalf of the child can also sue the spa (possibly others) for not taking the offence seriously when they complained. It appeared that the spa were ok (and dismissive of the alleged victims) with the male who allegedly had an erection exposing themself to the women.

NiceGerbil · 02/09/2021 22:34

And if the women and girls had followed the way we are supposed to behave they would have pretended not to notice, not complained etc.

GrumpyMiddleAgedWoman · 02/09/2021 22:36

Goodness!
Really!
Who'da'thunkit?
I'm just astonished!

And I'll just sit here growing old while I wait for Talcum X, Laurie Penny and other assorted useful idiots to apologise.

Didn't we all say that this is exactly what would happen?

yourhairiswinterfire · 02/09/2021 22:39

Yup. Transactivists and lobby groups campaigned for rapists and male sex offenders to be placed in women's prisons. They celebrate it as 'progressive'. Transactivists demanded everyone use the correct pronouns of someone that raped their own mother who has dementia, as if 'misgendering' is the worst crime of the 2 Hmm

They don't give a flying fuck.

nauticant · 02/09/2021 22:42

I think they'll completely ignore it.

Yes, let this not get picked up by the media now, let it be consigned to a done-and-dusted news cycle, and if forced to engage talk vaguely about it supposedly having been shown to be a hoax and there were indications that somehow the religious right were involved in making the incident happen. Don't get drawn into discussing facts and if someone insists, counterattack with an accusation that they are obsessed with genitals.

The hoax is currently the established narrative. Will it be superseded by the truth? (Assuming of course that today's breaking story proves robust.)

Keroppi · 02/09/2021 22:44

Wonder if the "Wi Spa Controversy" Wikipedia page will be updated (en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wi_Spa_controversy)

Created and constantly edited by she/her "Gwennie-Nyan" who removed some GC edits such as removal of the term cisgender within hours (the account that made these changes is now deleted, of course.)

NiceGerbil · 02/09/2021 22:49

Cailleach the spa was following the law.

Stopping them going in would have been illegal
Going into investigate when the complaints came is a can of worms. Going in to see what was going on if realised why. Could leave open to action? If it was a person who had had a trans ID publicly for s long time no erection and the women reported because they were uncomfortable. They can't arbitrate dodgy/ not dodgy and shouldn't be expected to at risk of it being criminal/ being sued.

I mean the whole thing is a mess.

The desired social move is that the women and girls would turn a blind eye. And quietly leave. While trying not to make it obvious that was why.

Sally Hines who I'm not sure who she is has said
They've not been charged
And anyway it's a non story

And suggested that anyone who flags this when the Texas abortion law has just happened has skewed priorities.

I can't imagine that many who said you know. What's the problem/ it's a far right hoax involving fundamentalist Christians. Will acknowledge it.

I imagine the guardian won't but let's see. Given they reported on it a fair bit at the time they really should update.

PumpkinSpiceWoman · 02/09/2021 22:53
I just saw this reported on Facebook:

nypost.com/2021/09/02/charges-filed-against-sex-offender-in-wi-spa-casecharges-filed-against-sex-offender-in-notorious-wi-spa-incident/amp/?__twitter_impression=true&fbclid=IwAR1e_ws81-vaALSlUfdhuYlufJNoLzR31q-WII_WCUISsfR5Rnvx-21RtFc
Good news on the incident that didn't happen?

NiceGerbil · 02/09/2021 22:54

Oh and probably

Ok so this turned out to be a dodgy person.
Maybe say not really trans.
The girls and women were free to leave.
The police reports were acted on.

So everything worked as it should.

No one was actually harmed. (Non contact sex offences are seen by many as utterly trivial). So there's no reason to change anything because of one incident. That would be really disproportionate. Etc etc etc

nauticant · 02/09/2021 22:55

Sally Hines is the daughter of Barry Hines who wrote A Kestrel for a Knave. Some apples roll a long way from the tree. She's also Professor of Sociology and Gender Studies at the University of Leeds, and a bonkers trans activist with zero self-awareness.

Cailleach1 · 02/09/2021 22:55

So, it is not indecent exposure for a male to expose themself in that way? Even in front of a child.

If there is no law against that, why has the male been charged? That would mean that sex offences by males are not offences any more.

NiceGerbil · 02/09/2021 22:56

Thanks nauticant!

NiceGerbil · 02/09/2021 22:57

Cailleach the law in California is that all service providers must respect gender identity.

I'm not sure what their indecent exposure law is.

Mollyollydolly · 02/09/2021 22:59

Bloody hell I didn't know she was Barry Hines daughter. Adored him, feel a bit sad I've been blocked by his daughter. God knows what he'd had made of it all.
Mytholmroyd · 02/09/2021 23:00

It was only a matter of time wasn't it? Angry

Cailleach1 · 02/09/2021 23:01

Yes, if what we have heard from the women is true, I would regard this male as a very dodgy person. For allegedly exposing themselves (and their partial erection) in the presence of women and a child. Irrespective of whether or not they have previously done so.

Illaria · 02/09/2021 23:02

Re Prof Hines - I actually think she's lived a very sheltered life and lives vicariously via her err followers. Her stories and posts reek of a person desperate to be relevant . It would be funny if it were not so serious. Calling out 'white feminism' without a hint of irony...

showmethegin · 02/09/2021 23:02

@Kotatsu

You know what, just let market forces deal with this - make it very clear that even in female areas, you can see a penis - like those 'male toilet attendants may be present' signs.

Watch the female clientele go elsewhere. Of course there does need to be an else-where for that to happen - finally we can maybe get my dream of more women's private member clubs where I can join, occasionally stay over, have lunch etc.

I love the idea of women's only clubs but surely those would get invaded too?
ZuttZeVootEeeVro · 02/09/2021 23:03

I don't entirely agree. As I said, I don't think they should be there. But if they are surrounded with people telling them they should be, as is currently often the case, then they may simply believe them. Thoughtless and self centred perhaps, or simply believing what they have been told about being welcome, but not necessarily guilty of more

Is it possible for male trans person to hear that they are welcome to be naked around children and women, yet be oblivious to the fact that it is controversial and that it's breaking cultural norms?

If they are getting the message that it's ok, they are going out of their way to listen to one view and ignoring everyone else.

flowerpootle · 02/09/2021 23:06

Soooo

Can the Guardian and Slate magazine just pretend this hasn't happened? Don't they have to print a retraction / clarify that their articles calling the wi spa incident a hoax were wrong?

How can we make this happen.

NiceGerbil · 02/09/2021 23:10

Well this is the thing isn't it.

At WiSpa there is a mixed sex spa. It is not naked.

At this point with prisons sex offenders etc etc etc

Really the fact is that those who support self id don't give a fuck about the obvious risks.

So really there's no point saying look at this and this. They do not give a single fuck.

Which is shit.

Thing is sex offences against women and girls. Society at large says terrible but in reality mostly each time one comes along are not that interested. If they were our rape stats wouldn't be how they are as there would be too massive widespread shouting about it.

NiceGerbil · 02/09/2021 23:12

I don't know about slate.

As a long standing broadsheet, the guardian ignoring it after reporting it a fair bit in the way they did would be pretty shocking but I suspect that's what will happen.

ArabellaScott · 02/09/2021 23:14

Merager says she is speaking with progressive California lawmakers, like state senator Scott Wiener, in the hope that they change state law to better protect trans people.

“If you go into an area where you’re expected to be nude, there has to be an indecent exposure exemption,” she says. Merager says she may file complaints or lawsuits for the discrimination she says she has been made to suffer by law enforcement and women in the Wi Spa. She says she has been in contact with the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office since learning of the warrant and plans to turn herself in.

An exemption for indecent exposure. Well.
