@disgustedofmanchester @MishyJD

What say you now?

When the law allows people with penises into spaces where women are vulnerable, how do we keep the nonces out, who are clearly using this development to access kids.

Selkiesarereal · 02/09/2021 18:43

Knock me down with a feather, did not see this coming, no not at all.

InvisibleDragon · 02/09/2021 18:44

Next depressing question: if this person is convicted of a further sex offence does indecent exposure get them a custodial sentence? And, given that this is California, is that automatically served in a women's prison?

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 02/09/2021 18:45

Isn't this exactly what "acceptance without exception" meant?

This person, this sexual predator person, is trans. Not the "wrong sort of trans", not "pretending to be trans", he IS trans as per Ruth Hunt's umbrella that she brought to Stonewall.

That phrase has done more harm to transpeople in the UK than anything else in the last decade. Before that I was happy to have TW in my single sex spaces, but as soon as I had to accept Philip as Pip Bunce and that Pip was a businesswoman deserving of prizes, I just thought "fuck that shit".

No thank you.

WarriorN · 02/09/2021 18:46

Anyone else holding their breath while waiting for the Guardian apology for its egregious misreporting?

watchwithinterest · 02/09/2021 18:51

I don't see this as a good news story. It is very clear in that article that these ideologues are going to lobby that males are allowed to expose themselves in women's spaces and that it is anti-trans to say they cannot. This is a movement so self-absorbed in its own narrative and so unconcerned by women's life time experience of male sexual aggression and harassment that this argument will make perfect sense to them and may get reflected in law, protecting male sex offenders everywhere. Its utterly misogynistic.

Interesting the Post report pitches the protests as very much right wing v left wing and doesn't mention feminists or the usual 'anti trans' narrative at all. Interesting

Yes it does. It refers to 'an anti-transgender protestor'. The other side are not called ' anti-women protestors.'

Good news on the WI Spa incident
Franca123 · 02/09/2021 18:52

Yep. According to Stonewall's Trans Umbrella, this person is trans. Awkward. Love to know what Kier Starmer has to say to this mess. Is this really what he wants to start over here? I assume this man will be housed in a woman's prison in California if it came to that.

FloralBunting · 02/09/2021 18:57

Laughing my arse off that this person's defense is that people keep calling the cops whenever the knob is whipped out.

There is a simple answer, I'm sure.

RedDogsBeg · 02/09/2021 18:57

Be housed in the female prison estate here too, probably.
Jaysmith71 · 02/09/2021 19:02

Looks like you're all going to have to educate your daughters to stop being so rude staring at the lady-dicks.

RedDogsBeg · 02/09/2021 19:04

The tweet in Gasp's post is unbelievable, sanctioning rape and sexual assault of female prison inmates.

Only one step from there to fully enabling sex offenders to carry out their offences in the community with impunity as watchwithinterest says.

Helleofabore · 02/09/2021 19:09

I am also waiting for the posters who told us that videoing in the reception area was far more egregious than a semi erect penis being exposed to a nine year old. I wonder if they will even acknowledge how very far they are entrenched in justifying this type of behaviour.

Aparallaxia · 02/09/2021 19:12

I've written to the LAT Los Angeles crime desk with a link to the NYP as there was nothing on ths update when I checked.

As for the sex pervert vs simple nudity thing: Being naked of itself in such a setting does not encourage, or even indicate toleration of, sexual behaviours. Even supposing we allow male bodies into female spaces (which I don't think should happen; I'm just assuming that the LoonyToons CA law allows it), there should be certain behaviours that are still not permitted. Masturbation, for example, would coerce other people present into viewing the masturbator's sexual activity, just as much as if two people started playing hide-the-salami in front of them. Similarly, any public display of sexual arousal would not be permitted; it goes beyond the bounds of privacy fixed by the setting, viz. a spa, not a cathouse.

HerRoyalRisesAgain · 02/09/2021 19:13

No surprise there.

EmbarrassingAdmissions · 02/09/2021 19:14

It's a remarkable instance of how misinformation and casting shadow precluded appropriate conversations and discussions when it was happening.

Merager says she is speaking with progressive California lawmakers, like state senator Scott Wiener, in the hope that they change state law to better protect trans people

Merager says she is speaking with progressive California lawmakers, like state senator Scott Wiener, in the hope that they change state law to better protect male sex offenders who want to commit sex crimes in female only spaces.

Fixed it.

OvaHere · 02/09/2021 19:19

Oh what a shock. Truly I am shocked because as we all know this never happens.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 02/09/2021 19:21

Completely predictable and no doubt being studiously ignored by all those adults enabling predators to access children - and weren't there a lot of them?

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 02/09/2021 19:23

But if they are surrounded with people telling them they should be, as is currently often the case, then they may simply believe them. Thoughtless and self centred perhaps, or simply believing what they have been told about being welcome, but not necessarily guilty of more.

/////

Really? Confused

This is an adult and they bloody well know you do not do what they did especially in front of kids. Enough of the excuses.

Is that in the video? I missed it in the story.

And to answer my own question before (and digress a tad), yes Andy Ngo's the author so controversial that bloke got kicked out of Mumford & Sons for reading him.

Igmum · 02/09/2021 19:26

I'm delighted the truth of this has come out. I hope it gets widespread coverage but suspect it won't. TRAs simply don't want to see the evidence. They don't want to see anything that detracts from their world view of trans people women as the ultimate winners in Equality Top Trumps and they absolutely don't want a debate about how this affects other vulnerable groups. Well done to the journalist who followed this story through.

MarshmallowSwede · 02/09/2021 19:29

So a sex offender doing what sex offenders do! Wow.. so surprised!

Now everyone who was calling the woman in the video a liar needs to apologise to her. Also to the mother who had a man flash her and her child as well.

The major gaslighting that took place around this incident was astounding! Telling the woman in the video she was wrong and transphobic.

What really gets me, is this monster is now trying to petition legislation so that HE can have access to more women to abuse?

And it really makes me sick that this man is being referred to as “she”. I’m not playing these games. He is s sex offender. He has been accused of flashing women. When is this madness going to stop?

RedDogsBeg · 02/09/2021 19:31

But if they are surrounded with people telling them they should be, as is currently often the case, then they may simply believe them. Thoughtless and self centred perhaps, or simply believing what they have been told about being welcome, but not necessarily guilty of more.

Don't minimise this.

The Spa had a mixed sex space that this person could have used, chose not to and it is blatantly obvious why they made that choice.

Floisme · 02/09/2021 19:38

If this is correct, I look forward to hearing about Guardian staff signing a letter expressing concern about plummeting reporting standards.
