Justin Webb giving a really hard time to someone from the Scottish Green Party about self ID

OP posts:
Ritasueandbobtoo9 · 21/08/2021 09:01

Their response was really confusing. Initially the Green person said the the UK law allows self id and when questioned then said there will be no change to the gender recognition act. She was really struggling to answer the question and I think she basically lied in the face of reason.

I was dog wrangling whilst it was on in another room so didn’t hear all of it clearly but I did hear that, and I was shouting really loudly ‘That’s a lie, you are lying’ over the top of the barking. It did prompt DH and DDs to come running to see if I was ok though, so it served a purpose as I got help with the unruly dogs Grin

I've just listened to this. It's near the end of the programme (starts at about 1:55).

She either doesn't understand the law or she's lying.

Jaysmith71 · 21/08/2021 09:29

"Driver's Licence...." not driving licence.

She's Canadian.

Ritasueandbobtoo9 · 21/08/2021 09:32

It is appalling that someone from a political party can lie on a publicly funded radio station to deliberately minimise the impact of a policy on the safety of women.

She is quite frankly Horrified that an interviewer would ask her questions...

Ritasueandbobtoo9 · 21/08/2021 09:59

Both or manipulating truth?

Maybe next time hide in a fridge?
Triphazards · 21/08/2021 10:55

Interviewer: "It's a yes or no."

Green Party woman: "Blah blah blah blah blah."

KittenKong · 21/08/2021 10:56

Let them talk - let them actually say this guff out loud in public. It can only help.

MonsignorMirth · 21/08/2021 11:01

Let the fact that they lied become the story.

Masdintle · 21/08/2021 13:31

Actually I think it's accurate what she said. There is no law in statute that prevents men walking into women's spaces whenever they like. No actual law. However, it's completely disingenuous of her because there is and has been for a long time a sort of social contract that most people adhere to, which means men stay out of women's spaces and vice versa. But it's not on the statute books.

Fudging, dissembling, being clever-clever with words, manipulating, yes - lying, no.

Ritasueandbobtoo9 · 21/08/2021 13:34

She lied when she said that this would have no impact on women….

littlbrowndog · 21/08/2021 13:38

Why not ask Scotland’s women ?

There was a public consultation. It’s not been published

Jaysmith71 · 21/08/2021 13:41

Toilets are all about plumbing, yours and the porcelain's.

Presumably there will come a day where it is demanded that urinals are installed in female-identifying conveniences so that WWW's can avail themselves.

Oh yes, she did 🙄

yep, the (inconvenient) answers are already available

women don't want to share single sex spaces with men

KittenKong · 21/08/2021 15:21

They can’t arrest us all

DisgustedofManchester · 21/08/2021 17:30

Trans people have been self IDing into women's or men's spaces foe decades and this has been protected since the Equality act. Self ID for a GRC would not change this. Specific 'hot topics' like refuges and prisons are red herrings because all prison placements are risk assessed anyway and refuges are a good example of where there may be a reasonable legitimate aim to deny a trans woman say. That decision though is to be determined by the refuge and is not a ban.

I am not aware of how this systematically affects women because prior to the Christian right spreading their influence and funding a few years ago, no one cared.

KittenKong · 21/08/2021 17:35

‘Protected’ by the Equality act how? Christian Right - you know we aren’t in America, right?

Bollox.
BernardBlackMissesLangCleg · 21/08/2021 18:00

Bollox.

yeah, I was going to address it, but I think your response is superior!

Jaysmith71 · 21/08/2021 18:03

I fancy a new surround sound home theatre system.

Where's my Christian Right funding?

It's odd, in that case, how MoJ only recently changes its processes in relation to trans prisoners and risk assessment, after campaigners publicised several hideous cases involving trans women in women's prisons.
