Ah terrific, they've denounced JK Rowling (to whom they owe their existence) and are donating part of their takings to Scottish Trans Alliance:
"Many of you may be aware of JK Rowling's recent tweets concerning transgender issues. We have been very saddened and dismayed by these and do not condone the views she expressed in any way.
It’s a difficult time to be a Harry Potter fan for many but we sincerely wish JK Rowling’s views not to diminish our appreciation of the books and their messages of inclusion and tolerance."

@Viviennemary

Good. Sick to death of Rowlings anti trans stand. It should be made a hate crime.
JKR is not anti trans.

She is anti- men calling themselves women.

ArtemesiaK · 08/08/2021 16:54

Child: Mummy, what did J K Rowling do to make her a bad person?
Mummy: I don't know, sweetie, ask Viviennemary, she has all the answers......

Lessthanaballpark · 08/08/2021 16:59

JKR is not anti trans.

She is anti- men calling themselves women.

I’d go one further and say that she’s not even anti men calling themselves women. She is simply anti the erosion of women’s rights and the erasure of women’s language.

Gingerkittykat · 08/08/2021 18:23

It might be worth telling them what you think of their stance on Twitter.

Just adding that I loved a wokebro I know trying to do some mental gymnastics to justify buying the Harry Potter books.

"Well, of course, I find her deeply problematic but it's what the kids' friends read and I want them to love reading"

Either stand by your principles and boycott the Potter franchise or shut up.

I clicked on the TripAdvisor link and saw a 'review' left by someone in response to this. The reply from the manager was, well, I was going to say shocking but it's not really, is it?

NotImpossible · 08/08/2021 18:37

Here. The review is obviously not a real review but the response...

Aaargh - screenshots in reverse order, obvs!

merrymouse · 08/08/2021 18:43

The pro JKR ‘review’
doesn’t even mention trans issues - unless I have missed something?

And I still don’t understand how it’s possible to separate the tour from JKR, given that the only thing that links HP to Edinburgh is JKR.

EightiesRobot · 08/08/2021 18:48

Attacks a woman for her non-existent 'hate for a marginalised community' but looking at their Twitter timeline they have continuously exploited JKR's name over the past year to promote their product which exists by leaching off her work. It's pretty bloody clear that the hate is all one way from The Potter Trail. It's time they were sued for copyright infringement. This isn't a group of fans making transformative works for fun. They are making money off her while abusing her.

KimikosNightmare · 08/08/2021 18:51

I live in Edinburgh- I have no idea which street has been appropriated by them as "the real Diagon Alley"

I'd never even seen the idea broached before.

Anotheruser02 · 08/08/2021 18:52

the author has proved herself to be so full of hate for a marginalised community

A marginalised community? Shock That's the biggest fucking laugh.
Everyone has to accommodate these people, women have to move over and ignore their own fears and discomfort, gay people have to stop being gay, everyone has to pretend they can't tell the difference between male and female, we have to pretend that we haven't learned through decades of experience that opportunistic sex offenders will always identify into lower risk groups so they can operate in plain sight and our police service has had to become an absolute joke policing people's thoughts and twitter comments instead of tackling crimes.
Yeah I can see how they're struggling so much.

midgemagneto · 08/08/2021 18:54

I think we need a translation table
Heres a start

Woman == a feeling men can have
Marginalised == privileged
Hate = love and peace
Crime = writing on Twitter

No its not

Disgusting yes, surprising no

KimikosNightmare · 08/08/2021 18:56

I don't actually like the Harry Potter books. I read the first one to my son and it didn't grab either of us.

I wasn't however aware of there being any particular connection with Edinburgh other than JK Rowling lived in Edinburgh when she wrote them. They're not remotely like Sandy McCall- Smith's Scotland Street or Elspeth Dalhousie series.

KimikosNightmare · 08/08/2021 19:17

Their response on TripAdvisor is defamatory.

EightiesRobot · 08/08/2021 19:24

Looking at the reviews it seems a lot of the tour is about JKR, her life and where she was when writing, meeting people etc. The reviews are all by people who clearly like her and were interested in her work. I don't think they can have picked up on the nasty comments the tour company wrote about her on their website.

Cukku · 08/08/2021 21:05

I've done the tour. It's all about JKR. How she came to be in Edinburgh, how she came to write the books, where she wrote them, how she chose characters' names, the street which may have inspired Diagon Alley. It would be a weird tour to run if you hated her.

Unless you just wanted to exploit her. You can hate a woman if you're exploiting her for financial gain.
Lordamighty · 08/08/2021 21:15

Yet they clearly do hate her. That response libels her. She has never shown any hate towards any marginalised community.
The TRAs on the other hand have threatened her life.

midgemagneto · 08/08/2021 21:18

Exploitation relies on having no humanity for those you exploit

I've yet to see evidence of anyone capable of actual thought being able to back this up. Perhaps you'll be the first.

Do not hold your breath…ive been waiting ages

Rhannion · 08/08/2021 21:38

Might just say, in a loud voice, next time I pass them in the street “ are you the company that hates JK Rowling?”

Rhannion · 08/08/2021 21:43

Perhaps a few emails to their manager might “ educate “ them on what JK did say and not just their take on it. They seem to be a “free “ tour working on “tips” or a private tour which is paid for.
