Ah terrific, they've denounced JK Rowling (to whom they owe their existence) and are donating part of their takings to Scottish Trans Alliance:
"Many of you may be aware of JK Rowling's recent tweets concerning transgender issues. We have been very saddened and dismayed by these and do not condone the views she expressed in any way.
It’s a difficult time to be a Harry Potter fan for many but we sincerely wish JK Rowling’s views not to diminish our appreciation of the books and their messages of inclusion and tolerance."

@DeRigueurMortis

I'm very saddened and dismayed that if they feel so strongly they don't shut up shop and stop making money off the back of a woman they despise.
Personally if i were JKR I’d sue the fuck out of everyone

But shes obviously a lovely person and wouldn’t dream of it

Chickenyhead · 07/08/2021 20:04

So, reading it properly, they are still happy to exploit her work, pay themselves and fund an agenda that backs child abuse through treatment without parental consent.

Whilst denigrating her for sticking up for women.

Shame on them.

As for Spacey I say no to child abusers all round.

Once you sexually abuse/rape/kill you are no longer entitled to be considered good in my universe.

Whatsnewpussyhat · 07/08/2021 20:15

Personally if i were JKR I’d sue the fuck out of everyone

If I were JKR, I'd book myself a place on the tour under (probably under R. Galbraith for shits and giggles) and watch them fucking squirm when I turned up.

EightiesRobot · 07/08/2021 20:25

How utterly pathetic. Exploiting a woman's work for financial gain, rubbishing her name by spreading nonsense about her and disregarding all the good she has done for kids and women for what exactly? The tour say they do not discriminate but only reference trans and non-binary people. So would a woman who does not believe in gender identity ideology taking her kids not be discriminated against or made to feel uncomfortable? Harry Potter is still a best selling book series without the need for any pointless disclaimers from the publishers. The Warner Bros Studio was at capacity when I visited recently, as was the Fantastic Beasts exhibition at NHM. People still love JKR and her work regardless of the virtue signalling nonsense of parasites. I don't know why anyone who wanted to go on a Harry Potter tour would choose one so casually dismissive of the author. Perhaps the publisher could put on an official tour instead?

nauticant · 07/08/2021 20:42

It's this outfit: www.pottertrail.com/home. They go out of their way to avoid leading with "Harry Potter" in their branding but have slipped in a few mentions on their website.

Warner Bros hold a large number of UK trade and service marks for the words "Harry Potter", for example:

trademarks.ipo.gov.uk/ipo-tmcase/page/Results/1/UK00901433952

I wonder what they might think of a tour company using their intellectual property for a free ride while seeking to diminish its value.

ArtemesiaK · 07/08/2021 20:43

Oh, for goodness sake...I didn't understand who was offended when J K Rowling made her famous remark about people who menstruate and I still don't. Was it transwomen who are jealous because they don't have wombs or transmen because they menstruate and believe that they're men? Totally confused. And, whatever way I look at it, I can't see that it expressed hate, just reality for most people. Can J K Rowling take away their licensing for doing the tours, or something?

FluffyBattleKitten · 07/08/2021 20:45

Huge Harry Potter fan here. Absolutely support JK Rowling as does anyone who's actually read and understood her books.

^As our listeners posters will know, unless they've taken refuge at the bottom of a garden pond or somewhere similar, you know who's Stonewalls strategy of remaining in the shadows is creating a nice little climate of panic.^

So many ideological capture quotes.
Will just be reserving my money for Harry Potter companies that either support JK or keep their beak out.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 07/08/2021 21:10

If I were JKR, I'd book myself a place on the tour under (probably under R. Galbraith for shits and giggles) and watch them fucking squirm when I turned up.

Haha so would I.

BigBadBoom · 07/08/2021 21:22

Where did they post this shite?

ChakaDakotaRegina · 07/08/2021 21:24

Tale as old as time. Misogynists make profit off the work of women while moaning about women.

Woman speaks up for the rights of women. Misogynists harass and shame woman for speaking.

nauticant · 07/08/2021 21:29

Where did they post this shite?

It's at www.pottertrail.com/home.

Although Warner Bros could use their intellectual property to cause them real mischief, that won't happen because WB went for a politically expedient position last year:

variety.com/2020/film/news/jk-rowling-warner-bros-1234631061/

rabbitwoman · 07/08/2021 21:35

From the home page of that website :

'Take a trip down the real life Diagon Alley'

..... Now in her recent - absolutely terrific, worth a listen - interview with Simon Armitage on radio 4, jkr said that she's always seeing people claim, this is the real Diagon alley, that is where jkr got her inspiration for Diagon alley..... But it's not really based on anywhere, it's in her imagination....

So they obviously don't pay much attention to ANYTHING she says....

Please let us not play that game. For all we know the tours themselves might be great.

Lizzie523 · 07/08/2021 21:51

There's also an article in The Skinny this week about shows to see at The Edinburgh Fringe - the journalist is promoting a Harry Potter themed show and talks about JK being out of style now - she can speak for herself.

Their attitude is hardly a surprise given that the film editor tried to cancel poet Jenny Lindsay.

TheChild · 07/08/2021 22:04

I was discussing all things HP with my beautician last week, and she very tentatively said "what do you think of all this about J K Rowling now that she's apparently transphobic?"

I obviously replied and said I thought it was all utter rubbish and I was firmly on the side of common sense, only for her to reply in relief that she felt the same way. She is not a twitter user, mumsnetter and has very little idea about the trans ideology and how women's rights are being destroyed, but she thought it was lunacy that Rowling was being trashed for objecting to using the word "women" when discussing periods.

There is a very large world outside of Twitter and social media, and most of those, if told what would happening, would think it was bloody insane.

DD is a newly indoctrinated Potterhead, we are taking her to Harry Potter studios for her birthday in a few months and I might just take some JKR stickers with me Wink

nauticant · 07/08/2021 22:11

It's posts like that that remind me this is a long game and eventually it will default to common sense when in hindsight the activities of the trans activists will look like some kind of collective insanity.

littlbrowndog · 07/08/2021 22:44

Lol they don’t charge and they are dead sad that they have to do tours celebrating that well known transphobic JK Rowling

Cripes must hurt them so hard they have to do them tours yet crying inside

You know what. As adults just don’t do the tours. Fuck off and do something else

And stop leeching off the work off a woman who you obviously hate

Fuck off whiny fuckers

Rhannion · 07/08/2021 22:51

@Cheshirewife

Sometimes unpleasant people come up with great works.

Spacey is another example. You might not like the person or share their views but you can still enjoy their work.

Are you having a laugh? You can’t compare JK to a sleaze like Spacey!
FloralBunting · 07/08/2021 22:55

Spacey?

Makes a fucking change from Hitler, I suppose.

But is just as fucking arse bearing, so you crack on with that bullshit. I find it tremendously helpful when people go straight for nuclear options, cuts out all the legwork of pointing out the absurdities.

Helleofabore · 07/08/2021 22:59

Sometimes unpleasant people come up with great works.

Sometimes unpleasant people come up with crap posts.

Gingerkittykat · 08/08/2021 03:00

@Cheshirewife

I don’t see why they need to stop running the tour. A donation to a suitable charity seems like a sensible way to support a cause they believe in. Difficult to see what’s wrong with that.
If they truly believe JK Rowling is transphobic then they should stop promoting her books and profiting from her work. I wonder what percentage of their profits they keep for themselves?

I hope JK Rowling is either getting royalties from them using her characters or sues them for copyright infringement.

Gingerkittykat · 08/08/2021 03:22

Grab a wand and join your robed guide on the original tour in Edinburgh designed for Harry Potter fans! You'll discover magical locations that inspired characters and scenes in the series, visit places where JK Rowling wrote the books and even learn a spell or two along the way

Hypocrites!

PigeonPants · 08/08/2021 05:50

Where have they B E E N??????

Prime time for performative tantrumming a reasoned and persuasive ethical critique of JK Rowling’s audacity in tweeting tweets that somebody else wouldn’t have tweeted was some sixteen months ago. If the situation has been so dire, why and how have PotterTrail stayed silent so long?

And where’s PotterTrail’s denunciation of the rape and death threats directed against Rowling, and other outspoken feminists in Scotland? Of the shoring up of a toxic misogynist culture? Of the silencing of women? Of the normalisation of rape and sexual violence?

How long do you have to wait to decide that these things are (also) wrong, PotterTrail?

Sophoclesthefox · 08/08/2021 08:08

Stonking hypocrisy.

“We’d like to continue to profit from the work of JK Rowling, who as well as creating the fictional world that we now use to make money, has also done us the enormous service of not cracking down on our unauthorised use of her intellectual property. However, we need to tell you that we think she’s horrid and wrong, and we dislike her very much indeed, while continuing to profit from her work. Thank you”.

It’s all bullshit anyway, there’s any number of fantastical claims swilling around Edinburgh of “this is where she got inspiration for x” or “this is where she sat when she wrote y”, and she’s on record as saying most of it is nonsense. Doesn’t stop grifters like this crew, though.
