Ah terrific, they've denounced JK Rowling (to whom they owe their existence) and are donating part of their takings to Scottish Trans Alliance:
"Many of you may be aware of JK Rowling's recent tweets concerning transgender issues. We have been very saddened and dismayed by these and do not condone the views she expressed in any way.
It’s a difficult time to be a Harry Potter fan for many but we sincerely wish JK Rowling’s views not to diminish our appreciation of the books and their messages of inclusion and tolerance."

It’s completely bonkers. The books weren’t set in Edinburgh and the films weren’t filmed there, so the only connection to the city is JKR herself.

Rhannion · 08/08/2021 13:23

I’ve just emailed them so let’s see if I get an answer. I certainly won’t recommend them to any visitors.
The tours appear to be tip based unless you book a private tour.

Good. Sick to death of Rowlings anti trans stand. It should be made a hate crime.

RufustheBadgeringReindeer · 08/08/2021 13:29

Which bit of what JKR said is the hate crime exactly?

PrincessNutella · 08/08/2021 13:35

It is JKR's message of inclusion and tolerance that is in the books.

ScreamingMeMe · 08/08/2021 13:36

@Lizzie523

There's also an article in The Skinny this week about shows to see at The Edinburgh Fringe - the journalist is promoting a Harry Potter themed show and talks about JK being out of style now - she can speak for herself.

Their attitude is hardly a surprise given that the film editor tried to cancel poet Jenny Lindsay.

There was also this:

A hate crime to stand up for vulnerable women and children? While also expressing compassion for people with dysphoria? You want to declare women to be a valid target for abuse while exploiting their work? There is a name for that. The authoritarian mindset of gender identity ideologists is really disturbing.

Please could you expand on what JK Rowling has said that is anti trans? And could you use JK's own words, not something dreamt up by Katy Montgomerie or similar? TIA!

midgemagneto · 08/08/2021 13:51

Les make it simple

Leave the crime aspect out

How and where does jk express hatred ?

And yet Vivienne I bet you couldn’t name a single transphobic thing she said

Because there aren’t any

MingeofDeath · 08/08/2021 14:45

Vivienne?

The stupidity of the mad genderists is just too much...I can't take it!🥴

Jaysmith71 · 08/08/2021 14:58

Methinks someone does not even know what a 'hate crime' is in UK Law, not a particular offence but any offence aggravated by hatred of one of the protected groups, including those with gender reassignment.

StandUpStraight · 08/08/2021 15:01

I agree lastsummer. It’s all very well trying to engage people in debate and being open to persuasion by logical argument, but at the end of the day so much of this genderist nonsense is espoused by people who are either blindingly stupid or intellectually dishonest. And I don’t care if it hurts their feelings to say so.

MoreRainThanAnyYet · 08/08/2021 15:12

Spacey's views are that it's ok to sexually harass people. Rowling's view is that biological sex exists. Are you saying they are similar?

Rowling's view is also that she was harassed because of her biological sex. And that's probably true.

Why on earth trans rights activists think they will benefit from being conflated with the opposite sex is the real mystery. Transwomen get hassled for different reasons from women, on the whole. And women and transmen have a whole range of needs that men and transwomen don't.

Do you believe in any religion? Are you a flat earther, anti-vax?

The thing is that we are not compelled by law to follow made up stuff not based on scientific fact.

No matter how much you wish it.

It isnt transphobic to accept reality and reject dogma.

WorriedWishingWell · 08/08/2021 15:22

@Cheshirewife

Sometimes unpleasant people come up with great works.

Spacey is another example. You might not like the person or share their views but you can still enjoy their work.

Can you explain what JKR has done that makes her "unpleasant"?
midgemagneto · 08/08/2021 15:26

I know what makes her unpleasant to some people

She is successful , middle aged, female , generous, intelligent, interesting

And if you want more, but anything beyond "female " is surely unnecessary, she disagreed with someone and she said things that made them uncomfortable

AleynEivlys · 08/08/2021 15:28

Nothing to add that hasn't been said already. Just wanted to say I could not love JK Rowling any more than I have done since this all blew up.

Met her when I was about 10, she signed my books with lovely personalised messages, and was gracious, pleasant and wonderful. I NEED my girls to grow up just a bit more so we can read HP together and talk about how there is at least one public figure left who cares about the world being a better place for them. For all women and girls.

I hope she knows how appreciated she still is.

ScreamingMeMe · 08/08/2021 16:08

Leaving gum under tables should also be made a hate crime IMO

So should doing a big plop and running away.

PenguindreamsofDraco · 08/08/2021 16:12

I saw that when we were in Edinburgh last week and we did a tour with someone else. I was going to email them to tell them why they didn't get my business once we're home. Doubt they'd are, spineless little quizzing.

PenguindreamsofDraco · 08/08/2021 16:18

Care not are.
Quislings not quizzing.

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 08/08/2021 16:42

I'm sure you've said this before, and that when asked why you thought that, you said other people had told you she was transphobic

I'm also sure that you have, in the past, expressed views that weren't dissimilar to Rowling's and that would also get you accused of 'hate crime'.

So your comment here is both a repetitive post and a post that cuts off your nose to spite your face.
