2 Teachers in the US fired for speaking out about gender identity

More bullsh!t from the US. I just wanted to post this as another response to 'that will never happen'. Women are losing their jobs for this.

The article is from the brilliant 4W feminist site about 2 teachers in the US who were fired because they started a campaign to keep school toilets single sex.

4w.pub/two-oregon-educators-fired-after-speaking-out-about-gender-identity-policies/

North Middle School Assistant Principal, Rachel Damiano, and 7th-grade science teacher, Katie Medart, were fired at a public hearing of the Grants Pass 7 school district in Oregon on Thursday. The two women were each terminated by a 4-3 vote of the board after hours of statements, questioning, and debate.

Rachel and Katie were accused of using school district time or resources in the creation or promotion of “I Resolve,” a grassroots movement founded by the two educators which proposes “solutions for education policies” to address the conflict of rights arising from new “gender identity” laws and policies impacting schools in Oregon and across the country. In March, the two posted a video on Youtube describing their proposal, which includes separating school bathrooms by physical anatomy.

If anyone in the US wants to support them, they founded a movement called I Resolve www.iresolvemovement.com/ in an effort to find reasonable solutions to the mess that's going on over there, mainly focusing on education.

The website is pretty new, so there's not much on there but you can support them by buying t-shirts.

Not even a 'Buy my book if you want to know the answer'?

I believe the book was pretty much out of date on or around the day of publishing and requires updating, thanks to a certain legal case around the same time. Not that I've read the book of course. Who would really, when the author floats around handing out thinly veiled threats to women for talking about gender ideology. I certainly wouldn't want a penny of my money to go to someone like that. When it could go to do some good. Like fundraising for women's legal cases to fight the damage caused by gender ideology.

@TinselAngel

Is this advice being made as one MN member to another? Or, with respect to your professional standing, is this to be interpreted as legal advice

IIRC Robin has made it very clear in the past that Robin doesn't come to MN to give free legal advice.

I wonder if Robin gets the protected characteristics wrong in Robin's recent book? (Did you know Robin had written a book?) Alas I shall never know.

I do hope Robin has spellchecked the book properly. Sadly I will not be buying it, so will have to hope for the best.

Back to the OP, if anyone is in the US, these two women could do with support. I really hope their case get media traction over there.

There's nowhere obvious to donate to the women involved in the situation in the OP that I can see on their website. I wonder if Allison Bailey needs any more money?

FloralBunting · 20/07/2021 15:50

🤣

JonBinary · 20/07/2021 16:24

Allison might need some more money. Would much rather hand over the cost of that book to something more worthwhile :-)

I would reccomend a degree of caution in speaking of a protected characteristic possessed by real people as an 'ideology' and thinking that will be consequence-free.

@RobinMoiraWhite Trans people do not all (or mostly IME) hold to your ideology.

Trans people are not responsible your behaviour any more than Jews are responsible for the conduct of the IDF. Equating being trans with being anti-feminist just stokes transphobia.

Rachel Damiano and Katie Medart have been rehired!!!

and there are tantrums Grin

I googled to find out about their reinstatement and came across this impressively biased public radio broadcast that claims they used school time and resources to work on a campaign to "roll back school protections for transgender students". It gives no information at all for the reasoning behind the reversal of the decision to sack them.
www.ijpr.org/education/2021-11-14/grants-pass-educators-still-suing-school-district-after-their-termination-was-reversed

I wondered why a public radio broadcaster would give such a one sided report. Then I noticed the top of the page where it says Jefferson public radio a service of Southern Oregon University.

It is so difficult to find truthful reporting of the facts. This report has a bit more detail, seems that Cliff Kuhlman the guy who couldn't understand the arguments and ended up voting the way he was told to vote, had looked into the issues and changed his mind by the time the decision was revisited, so his swing vote caused them to be reinstated. www.mailtribune.com/okategoriserade/2021/11/10/grants-pass-school-board-votes-to-reinstate-i-resolve-educators/

This is quite interesting. Students at the school organised a protest at their reinstatement, in the form of a walk out that was supposed to last 20 minutes. A couple of adults showed up to support the teachers and according to this report "Tensions rose and one student spat in the face of a counter-protester while another student began “swinging a broomstick” at him, according to police reports." Two high school students and a 19 year old were arrested on a number of charges, but according to Rachelle Watson, "an educator at Grants Pass High School" “It was so positive and supportive but when those two community members arrived and, obviously as adults came to disrupt a student-led protest, it went downhill gradually, but felt very quick,”

Sounds like she thinks those two adults deserved to be gobbed on and twatted with a broomstick. Is this near the areas that had "peaceful protests" last year, where shops got looted and set on fire, in the same positive and supportive manner? www.opb.org/article/2021/11/17/arrests-made-during-grants-pass-high-school-solidarity-protest/

I'm so glad we have the Times, Spectator, and even the Daily Mail giving truthful coverage of the situation in the UK. The coverage in the USA still seems to be stuck in 2018.
