@FannyCann

I suspect that was the one *@JellySlice* hinted at.

I did not agree with everything every speaker said, but that's OK - they're allowed to say it and we're allowed to debate it, exactly as Posie's stickers:

I thought of that lady when I read JellySlices post too.

I doubt you’ll find anyone here who agreed with the anti vaxxer conspiracy theorist. But just in case: this has nothing to do with feminism. It’s irrelevant. She went right off at the deep end. If you look at the crowd, you’ll see people muttering to each other, switching off, and not engaging. As somethinginoffesive says, it was an event where anyone could speak.

And did you see anyone give wildly enthusiastic support? No

I am quite sure if you were looking at a clip designed to show that people who don’t believe that humans can change sex were conspiracy believers, you would have thought you’d found a gotcha. (Ironic really)

Weren’t you disappointed though to then realise that the woman was allowed to speak, had an excellent point in that 13 years were considered in some parts of the NHS to be young adults? Not one person booed her but we all listened carefully and appreciated the other information she told us.

Must have been a disappointing ‘gotcha’.

Well, we all know that TRAs don't support free speech, even at Speaker's Corner

That a particular poster found a clip with that speaker highlighted shows that TRAs are again determined to try to discredit people who simply won’t fall into line.

I am very sure that those watching, sharing and posting about it will miss the irony. But if you are so entrenched in believing that anyone who believes that there is a conflict of rights between the groups is hateful, you will miss many aspects of the debate.

As well as not being able to understand free speech it seems Twitter users can't count (not all Twitter users, just a subsection) as I've seen some say there were 30 people there.

Even a quick glance of the live stream recording, as the camera swings round, proves there were more than 30.

It's quite desperate really.

I didn't hear the AntiVax speech, I was too busy talking to Kate from the LGB Alliance which was far more interesting.

On the way out of the park, two Met. Police officers over at Speaker's Corner, who were curious about what our crowd of people were meeting for, asked me what it was about. I told them, and they had more questions as they'd never heard the GC side before. I answered, and they had more questions. So it went on. They became more and more engrossed and incensed as I them about intact male sex offenders in women's prisons & in girl guides, Stonewall UK and official "capture", etc. One said: "Why are no prominent politicians speaking up about this?" .... and before I could reply his colleague said: "They'd probably be accused of hate speech and have to resign." I just had to give the thumbs up to that!
Anyway, when I left them, they were definitely "peak trans"-ed.

The police around speakers corner are usually quite good to chat to.

I often march over when I see a crowd of people/police and ask ‘ok so do I need to avoid the area or can I go for my run??’.

I remember wandering into a woman’s march bu accident (I was trying to get home) and asked the police standing on the road how I could get across /around the march (it wasn’t a woman’s march I’d be welcome at). They knew, oh they knew what type of person had been asked to speak... and they were more bemused than anything.

If you don't have time to watch the full video can you skip to about half an hour in and listen to Lexi from Stop Surrogacy now, I don't think anyone would hand select that clip for twitter, it was relevant and important. Everyone should be aware of the proposed changes to UK surrogacy laws, the scope for grooming and exploitation of young women is massive.

Helleofabore · 02/08/2021 10:45

Lexi delivered an awesome speech. Very clear with some absolutely appalling insight into people trying to lower the age of surrogate mothers to 18. And even 16 years old was mooted with the view that 16 year old have capacity to consent!!!

I was not out for a "gotcha" at all, but must say that I wouldn't take the time of day from someone who is so deep into antisemitism and vaccine denial, let alone any NHS information.

Apart from that, for "some parts" of the NHS it would be absolutely ok to be counted as a "young adult", for example when it comes to question of sexual health.

What anti-Semitism?

Soros funding is an anti-semitic trope.

I don't recall hearing Soros mentioned, either. Not saying he wasn't, just that I don't recall it.

Why Soros, anyway? Is claiming funding by any wealthy philanthrope automatically anti-Semitic if they happen to be Jewish?

mention of Soros certainly is...

No, any mention of Soros isn't automatically anti Semitic, just because he's Jewish, any more than thinking Sadiq Khan is a clueless twat makes you an Islamophobe.

Imagine giving a person such a special place in the world that mentioning their actions is deemed phobic.

I cannot imagine that kind of immunity for any single person now or in history.

No. Mentioning the end point of their philanthropy is not anti-semetic.

But it completely follows the line of thought that any person who believes that people cannot change sex physically is hateful and right wing.

And it also follows a group so entrenched that they would discount every thing said by someone. Including disagreeing that water is wet. Life must be difficult in a world so pure.

It's often not genuine concern about anti Semitism, it's just another stick to beat women with in many cases. Just another gotcha smear. Many of these people supported Corbyn's Labour, and didn't give a shit about antisemitism then.

A bit like the woman (Phoebe?) who spoke about prostitution and how damaging and dangerous it is for women.

She pointed out that it's odd how trans activists and pro-prostitution ideologies seem to go together. Given the number of trans people in South America in danger due to prostitution you would think transactivists would want to help trans people out of prostitution rather than encouraging more prostitution with the "sex work is work" rhetoric.

It was a thought provoking point.

I've loathed George Soros since 1992, when he made $1 billion dollars in one day by speculating against the pound. We were in the depths of a recession, people were losing their homes and I was working day and night to try to stay in employment.

Hearing Soros congratulating himself on "breaking the Bank of England" made me sick.

When I heard he'd found refuge in England after fleeing Hungary as a teenager in 1947 I despised him even more. Thanks and fuck you, Britain.

I didn't even know he was Jewish, and it doesn't affect my feelings about him.

Some great speeches and having a range of topics means women who attended got to hear about more than one issue affecting women and women's rights. Lexi's speech about surrogacy went down really well and women on twitter are saying "I didn't know anything about this before".

Well done Lexi.

  2. They twigged about the hate speech!

Yes, it's another one of those TRA paradoxes.
