This from FPFW site.

This MSc student is looking at public attitudes to transgender prisoners. It takes about 10 minutes to complete and could be an important measure of public opinion. Please take a moment to fill in.

I think this is bona fide. It's on FPFW site so nothing to suggest otherwise

Goldsmiths, though. You have to choose your own unique ID and I can't decide between AdultHumanFemale or Terfisaslur Grin

AlfonsoTheMango · 16/07/2021 09:36

If it were a university other than Goldsmiths I would participate.

Tibtom · 16/07/2021 09:37

Gave up. I felt the questions were manipulative

JellySlice · 16/07/2021 09:38

I can't find it on the FPFW site.

AnyOldPrion · 16/07/2021 09:41

It’s bizarre in places, so be prepared. It asks questions about a person who is accused of a crime, but not convicted, as if he’s already been found guilty.

I presume the student is looking for links between wanting to punish men who claim they are women, religious fundamentalism and conservative (small c) values. If they’re expecting to find correlation, they’re probably going to be disappointed, given that this survey is now being promoted by UK women’s organisations and through women’s rights campaigners on Twitter.

Wonder if their conclusion will be that their project was hijacked and therefore no conclusions can be drawn….

MichelleScarn · 16/07/2021 09:42

What a shit ambiguous survey! Poorly written. I gave up at 'what are your thoughts on pre marital virginity' positive or negative? Yes am being pedantic but do they mean by choice or what?!

Ereshkigalangcleg · 16/07/2021 09:44

It almost sounds like they are trying to imply that the woman false accused him of sexual assault so you should give him an easier ride, as well as the trans element. It all felt loaded and like they were trying to elicit a particular result.

Masdintle · 16/07/2021 09:44

How premarital though? I got married at 22 and was a virgin for 17 years before I was married 🙄

Ereshkigalangcleg · 16/07/2021 09:45

Masdintle Grin how about NotGoingToTheGulag

MangoSeason · 16/07/2021 09:52

I completed it. I get the impression that the survey-maker assumes there will be a strong correlation between being GC and uber-religious and conservative. I encourage mners to complete the survey to prove them wrong.

I want to add that there is nothing wrong with being uber-religious and conservative and holding GC views. I am an conservative myself, albeit an atheist. I just think the survey questions showed the confirmation bias expectations of its maker. Would be nice to prove them wrong.

FlyPassed · 16/07/2021 09:53

I'm on the first scenario and there's so much wrong with the way it's written i cannot fathom how the student will make any sense of the answers. Going to try to complete it out of curiosity...

It's rather leading, and leaving certain points to the imagination

  • does he actually consider himself a woman?
  • how severe was the assault he was accused of ?
Maybe I read too quickly and missed these points.

Very informative about the academic rigour of Goldsmiths though.

MichelleScarn · 16/07/2021 10:04

I want to be a locomotive driver now!

FlyPassed · 16/07/2021 10:06

Just completed. Very odd. Trying to establish a link between those who think males should be punished for assaulting women, they should go to men's prisons not women's prisons and religious beliefs/1950s sex-based roles. We see you.

They should have included a 'don't know option' and at least one open text box. Without these, any analysis will be pretty meaningless and the surpervisor should have pucked up on that before the survey was launched

Annoying that there was no space for free comments at the end. Some of my answers to the scenario would have applied to all prisoners eg the ones about education, tailored individual support, access to psychological support. In an ideal world I’d say most/all prisoners should have the opportunity to access these things, but I feel like the question implied I thought they would benefit from psychological support because they’re trans.

Diverze · 16/07/2021 10:10

I filled it in but it was an awful survey. The hypothetical offender was described as 'he', not explicitly trans, not explicitly guilty, and the offense was apparently minor. It was impossible to answer most of the questions about whether they should be in any kind of prison since it wasn't at all clear that they had in fact committed any crime or were in fact transgender. Really poor.

Nojobforoldmums · 16/07/2021 10:11

I thought some of the questions were designed to catch out religious conservatives who were pretending not to be. Like the premarital virginity one, problem is the question was ambiguous. Must people be virgins when married? No. Is it OK for people to be virgins when married ? Yes. IMO. Given I know people who would disagree on both those points it doesn't seem completely clear cut what they were asking.

Twilow · 16/07/2021 10:13

I did it but there was only 1 question about how severely someone should be punished? I don't think it worked properly.

Nojobforoldmums · 16/07/2021 10:13

But I liked that they collected separate stats on gender identity and sex at the start. As if they thought these may make a difference....

Megasausagehead · 16/07/2021 10:16

Terrible example used for all evidence of attitudes to transpeople

Secondbellini · 16/07/2021 10:21

It is not even clear who they think the offender is. Has the woman committed an offence by making a false accusation or has the man committed an offence by sexually assaulting her?

At this point there is only an alleged offender.
