Very one sided article. The language is misleading as it talks about how these ‘girls and women’ just want to be able to play sports with other girls and women.

Homophobia has been a massive fear/ hate thing for men massively for millennia about the world. Sometimes less sometimes more but in general masculinity is generally stricter and enforced more than with women.
