It's sensible to play devils advocate to cover all bases.
If this Ruby character is a transman like Buck Angel then the reporter should have written "female who identifies as a transman".
It's statistically very very unlikely to be a transman however, and accurate reporting in these cases would clear up any ambiguity. Women are on edge reading these reports because the current consensus in the media seems to be to report these crimes by using the perpetrators' preferred pronouns.
This is so wrong. It skews public perception, confuses people, and affords misplaced respect upon the worst of offenders.
"Male who identifies as a transwoman"
Or
"Female who identifies as a transman"
Along with the correct pronouns, not preferred pronouns (unless they held a GRC which is a whole other mess)
This is what is needed. When this started happening in the media I don't know, but it seems to be the current unwritten rule that has taken over!
