Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

How is it "gender critical" to impose rigid binary social categories based on sex?

CuriousPanda · 13/07/2021 21:07

For most of history, the whole point of feminism was to oppse sex-based segregation and restrictions that were imposed by patriarchal society.

So I don't see how supporting strict gender categories, and simply calling them "sex-based" instead, in any way leans itself to "gender abolition".

One might get impression that "gender" is simply being used to mean trans people existing, and "gender abolition" simply means restricting trans people from being able to transition and use different gender labels. And basically nothing else.

With "sex-based rules and restrictions" being basically just gender roles but trans-proofed.

3 times I have now been misgendered. Because OP doesn't know the difference between sex and gender.

3 times.

@Wildgarlicpesto

You have banged on non stop for days about trans women being women, I think you left a gigantic trail of clues to your sex there *@CuriousPanda*
Have I? Do you think "males" are the only ones who empathize with trans women? That's quite a broad statement to make about men and women alike...

You know, like a gender stereotype.

And "female people" who do call themselves women and "male people" who call themselves men are simply cisgender, as they use the same gender labels that they've been assigned since birth.

I wasn't assigned a gender at birth. My sex was observed and noted. I call myself a woman because I'm an adult human female. As noted at birth.
I don't have a "gender identity". Even those quizzes posted up thread ( or was it on the other thread?) say I'm non-binary A-gender.

OP, does it help if I tell you that many, many GC feminists would fall under any definition of non-binary that I've ever read?

You're playing dishonest games, you know you're not being misgendered, you're being called by the very label you have called yourself.

UK/Irish men who are tedious, religious, genderists
should declare themselves;

and be legally liable to be sent to monk gender monasteries - where sexual abstinence, vows of poverty and silence are mandated. They must commit to service for a minimum of 25 years.

Mandated cloisters are preferable.

Chickeny keep your sexpanda to yourself, I dont want to know.

Would they? Do they call themselves non-binary? If so, why do they persistently attack non-binary people, attack the very concept of using gender-neutral language?

quite aside from everything else, it reeks of privilege to not understand why a small number of spaces and provisions are set aside for women

(and are therefore not needed by men because they don't suffer from the same discrimination and disadvantages women do)

chickenyhead · 14/07/2021 23:01

No I have never ever said I am a woman by gender. You keep telling me that.

You are deliberately misgendering me.

The gender identity I represent in the societal construct is agender.

Agender is a valid identity.

You do not get to tell me who I am.

I am actually multi level swirling rainbow pan gender. I am what I say I am.

Gumbomambo · 14/07/2021 23:04

This person isn’t interested in talking to the women who are horrified by the damage being done to our young people. We are not transphobic. I care desperately about any person that is trans. I’ve spent my day in a centre for women who have been violently and sexually abused by men. I do not believe for a second that trans people are abusive. I do know that people like the OP are allowing the boundaries to be blurred and violent men to be let in to do violent things to women and children, Stop your nonsense OP and think about the real lives of abused women this instant. before you bring your bull shit up about trans people being abused, we mop them up too. We find them somewhere just as safe. Shame on you. Think about all the vulnerable people and see what you can do to help.

Forgive me if I'm being thick but surely this whole debate could be eliminated if we collectively decided on the language to describe sex vs gender? Eg female is the sex, feminine is the gender identity or along those lines.

Once we have the language set in stone and its objective not subjective then we can look at certain situations and decide whether they need to be segregated by sex or by gender. Ie sports/prisons etc by sex, other areas by gender.

We seem to be stuck in some kind of limbo at the moment where woman is a sex label to some and a gender label to others and the debate cant go anywhere without proper meaningful language.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 14/07/2021 23:06

Do they call themselves non-binary?

Most women don't call themselves "cis" but that appears to have no bearing on what you call them. I don't see that they can't be considered non binary without proclaiming their gender identity to the world. No one is actually binary, after all, as that would be silly.

Do they call themselves non-binary?

Do they have to? Is gender a social role or an identity?

I said woman by sex. Agender by gender.

Your transphobia is shining.

GC people have shown themselves time and time again to be completely unwilling to cede "woman" and "man" to refer to social categories.

So there's really no debate to have on this.

Or is your definition of non-binary 'people who call themselves non-binary'?
