It seems that gaining a degree and learning how to transcribe braille is sufficient to persuade a parole board that you are no longer a danger to women and girls. He is only 61, he could have many years of offending left before him.

I cannot understand this decision. He left his baby alone in the back of a car to go and rape and murder a 15 year old girl. Three years later he raped and murdered another 15 year old girl. He was caught through DNA profiling (a mass screening of men in the area), eventually, as he persuaded a colleague to take the test for him.

He offended. He offended again. He lied and actively avoided screening he knew would incriminate him. I really hope that the guilty plea in court isn’t a factor in the decision to release him. It was a result of the evidence against him not a show of remorse.

FlibbertyGiblets · 13/07/2021 12:46

It is unbelievable yet here we are.

thinkingaboutLangCleg · 13/07/2021 12:53

Is there a specific number of girls you have to kill before you're locked up for life? Like, everyone's entitled to one? and two is getting a bit greedy, but still, never mind eh?

RolloTomassi · 13/07/2021 12:57

@thinkingaboutLangCleg indeed. What a message this sends. Disgraceful, no justice in it at all.

No doubt this lowlife won't be living anywhere near the decision-makers.

Trevors · 13/07/2021 13:24

I grew up in the village at the time and just can’t believe he is being released ever.
The murders were described as “particularly sadistic” by the sentencing judge. He raped and murdered two children. How can someone become reformed tomorrow that ever?
The legacy effects on the families of the two girls, their friends and the whole community will last our lifetimes. Why should pitchfork now be able to move on and given the opportunity to kill again?

Beefcurtains79 · 13/07/2021 13:27

I’m utterly utterly horrified by this.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 13/07/2021 13:28

Women matter so little. It's a message to us all.

OvaHere · 13/07/2021 13:31

Terrible decision. Sad

FloralBunting · 13/07/2021 13:35

Well, obviously, in a society that parrots stupid ideas like men just need to be 'educated' not to rape women, it makes sense that a man who rapes women and is then given an 'education' should be released to potentially rape more women.

Rape will not be dealt with until men who rape are dealt with in the most severe manner. Shame, social oppobrium, rejection by their families and friends, lost jobs, harsh legal penalties, the fucking lot.

Pitchfork deserves no second chances. He should stay behind bars totting up his little education points and be an example of what should happen to men who rape.

But of course, none of this will happen. Because there is no will to stop rape. Not by partners and husbands, not by casual dates, not even by brutal kidnappers.

Faffertea · 13/07/2021 13:37

He’s served 33 years for murdering 2 15 year old girls. So just over a month in prison for every year of the lives he took.

FemaleAndLearning · 13/07/2021 13:47

And surprise surprise he indecently exposed himself to over 1000 victims before being caught. Psychiatrist described him as a sexual psychopath. He has been in an open prison in Bristol apparently. I wonder what treatment he has had for his perversions? None I hear you say, quite likely.

Toseland · 13/07/2021 13:52

I’m starting to think that these releases, the letting pedophiles off lightly, the rape conviction rates are all part of this same war on women.

DdraigGoch · 13/07/2021 13:52

Nothing surprises me any more. When the death penalty was abolished (obviously there are complex issues around capital punishment) people were told that "life would mean life". Pitchfork has served 33years which equates to 16.5 years for each killing (not even counting the rapes which in my view should be served consecutively). How tragically apt that a "life" sentence is so short that it almost matches the shortened lives of those poor girls.

TheFnozwhowasmirage · 13/07/2021 13:56

I'd like to say that this decision is unbelievable, but sadly it's not. He's a serial sex offender, rapist and double child murderer. How bad does someone have to be before they ARE classed as a risk?
Those two girls would have been my age by now. A lad at college with me lived near them and was DNA tested during the investigation, and I remember the whole thing like it happened yesterday.
I don't believe for one moment that he's been rehabilitated,so now we are going to have another predator loose in our society. It never ends.

ForTheLoveOfSleep · 13/07/2021 14:02

I don't think he should be released as I think (due to the lack of the death penalty) a life sentence should mean life and he is clearly a complete and utter disgrace of a human. That said, he has served his original given sentence of 30 years and I really want to have faith in our justice system because without it where does that leave society?

AssassinatedBeauty · 13/07/2021 14:07

The issue with sentencing is that there needs to be an element of rehabilitation. But I don't think there is any real evidence that serial killers and sex offenders can genuinely be rehabilitated, or be somehow rendered unlikely to offend.

Our justice system is most definitely not perfect and shouldn't ever be the recipient of anyone's faith in it. Getting justice as a victim is dependent on many factors that are beyond your control, and very often depends on your status in society.

OP posts:
thinkingaboutLangCleg · 13/07/2021 14:10

Oh of course - he got a degree. So that's OK. Because no one with a degree ever committed a crime?

I'd be slightly inclined to believe he felt remorse if he asked never to be let out. (And he should still be kept in prison, remorseful or not.) But he's a psychopath, he is never going to feel remorse, though he may well be able to fake it.

SpringSparrow · 13/07/2021 14:12

I am utterly horrified and disgusted at this disgusting individual being released. Seriously think we should have the death penalty for him and the likes of Wayne Couzens.

FloralBunting · 13/07/2021 14:18

Faith in a justice system that locks rapists up with women? That manages to prosecute a miniscule amount of rapists. That lets monsters like Pitchfork out because he spent some of his time incarcerated for the rape and murder of two teenagers getting an education that most young people in this country are saddled with thousands in debt to get?

I can't say I share that faith.

thinkingaboutLangCleg · 13/07/2021 14:23

And yes, FemaleAndLearning what an amazing coincidence that Pitchfork had indecently exposed himself to more than 1000 victims before he was caught.

When he leaves prison he'll be able to expose himself to as many women and children as he wishes, with even less fear of any penalty. Since men are allowed into so many women-only spaces if they claim to be transwomen, he'll have plenty of changing rooms to choose from.

These incidents are too common to get into the news. And it's so rare for a man to be challenged -that it makes headlines when they do, eg the Californian Wi Spa incident: thepostmillennial.com/exclusive-mom-reveals-naked-hot-tub-daughter

Mulletsaremisunderstood · 13/07/2021 14:56

Why don't life sentences reflect the fact that people are now living longer?
If we all have to wait longer to be able to claim a pension etc, then surely other things should reflect longer life expectancy also. Why haven't the justice system caught up to this?

This man could realistically have 30 - 35 years of life left once he is released, while those young girls will never have that chance because of him.

whychangethehabitofalifetime · 13/07/2021 15:02

I'd like to know why, for anyone, life doesn't mean life. No 'it's 18 years' nonsense. You get a life sentence (usually because you've killed) then you go to prison until the end of your life. Whether that's five years or eighty five years.

This decision is disgusting.

Bagelsandbrie · 13/07/2021 15:07

Should never be released. Absolutely disgusting.

Marcipex · 13/07/2021 15:10

Bloody hell, it makes me feel sick.
What neighbourhood is going to have this murderer foisted on them?

TheWeeDonkey · 13/07/2021 15:16

Its so disgusting. Its a shame they can't have their names tattooed on their faces or something. He can just slink away into society and get on with his life, living as he was before.
