Corrected.

Not at Pride
Nor by my side
I'd rather they hide
Their nude backside

Datun · 11/07/2021 23:39

@MondayYogurt

From Instagram. They seem essentially to be a genital promotion company. Stick to Pride, not children's libraries.
Is that last one also from Mandinga?
MindtheMinotaur · 11/07/2021 23:45

Their website lists their funders including National Lottery. I'm sure they'll be delighted for feedback and screenshots on impact.

NiceGerbil · 12/07/2021 00:15

Pride was a protest.

There have been men in various states of undress there for a long time. Gay men.

It was a protest. it was for adults. There was a risk of violence/ arrest/ outing.

Wearing things that were related to gay male sexuality was a fuck you to a society that was hostile. Where being outed could cost your job, family. Where the police were in hostile mode. Not dancing about in rainbow hats with furries.

Zero problem with that. And it was fairly tame by current standards afaik.

Now though.

In the UK it's got corporate sponsorship. It's not a protest where you might be confronted with a group of violent men/ police.

It's a bring your children.

And the fuck you I am a man who has sex with men and I'm wearing tight trousers and no top and I have my arm around a man with a man dressed similarly.

Has become. Loads of men whatever their sexuality 'celebrating' ... A bizarre range of deeply peculiar (and very very male) kinks. And I'm sure more than a few loving doing it with the corporate support and loads of kids etc all around.

Meanwhile loads of gay men and thinking wtf. We fought against the idea we were child molesters / perves. And now there's these fucking straight men with fetishes fucking that message totally...

Gay male sexuality+ oppression + protest + adults...fine.

A family affair that is glittery fun for all the family having bogstandard men expressing their classically male really odd sexual fetishes... Nope.

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 12/07/2021 00:54

Bog standard men who didn't lift a finger to fight for gay men and lesbians to be protected from discrimination in the workplace, no less.

But now the work's been done and sexual orientation is a protected characteristic, I've seen straight men and their girlfriends arguing that they're entitled to take part in Pride because they have a Puppy Play fetish.

Pride isn't just for adults. It should be a place that feels safe for gay, lesbian and bi teenagers. I don't want to see a woman pretending to be her boyfriend's dog and I don't see why a 14 year old girl coming to terms with being same-sex attracted would feel more comfortable about seeing it. Teenage girls already feel uncomfortable with calling themselves lesbians, because they feel that the word has just become a porn category.

NiceGerbil · 12/07/2021 01:24

I'm not sure about that.

It was always about homosexuality and the danger stigma hatred etc

Now it's corporate sponsored. And it's a festival of... ???

What does it have to do with its origin?

It's a capitalist apolitical free for all that has lost its way, at least for the ones in larger cities.

Where's the activism?

How about focusing back on LGB? On the homophobia that still ends in violence?

And to raise awareness of the laws around the world that criminalise, imprison? The death penalty that still exists in some countries? Corrective rape? The murders of men and women for their sexuality?

Something that is important and awful... And would be a really good positive direction for pride and especially with the current massive support.

Failing that pride need to decide. Is it a celebration of a wide range of sexual interests for anyone irrespective of sexuality?

Or is it a family friendly event for lbg people to get together and have a big party?

It cannot be both. The association of bring your kids and look at all this extreme fetish people who are nothing to do with LGB is not a good look.

As previously said, apparently...

That's them StrangeLookingParasite??

Cupid Stunt, as in stupid cunt?

Who the fuck thinks this is children's entertainment??

NiceGerbil · 12/07/2021 20:58

Kenny Everett is looking dead.

Cupid stunt was a character on his show.

My dad found it hilarious.

I've always, since I was a little girl. Not liked/ been uncomfortable with, seeing things like that.

Back then you had it all over the telly.

I didn't get it when I was a child. It made me just. I didn't like it and yet it was apparently really funny.

When I got older I realised that I'd always seen it as a total pisstake of women.

I always felt that way about panto dames as well.

I know loads of people don't feel that way. Before we have to get in a big fighty argument which is what usually happens on here!

NiceGerbil · 12/07/2021 20:59

I watched the Kenny Everett show with my family as I'm sure was pretty standard back then. It was on 78-81. I would have probably seen it in the 80s, so age 7 / 8.

NiceGerbil · 12/07/2021 21:01

Long dead!

Not looking dead.

Let's not drag him into this though.
His show was on the BBC iirc and he died of HIV/AIDS.

He was a big Star. Let's focus on the current performers pls.

StrangeLookingParasite · 12/07/2021 21:41

Long dead!

Not looking dead.

Oh good. I did think that was a bit harsh . Grin

No, I just thought of the catchphrase, 'all in the best possible taste' after seeing the coat of penises earlier in the thread.

Hope no-one is offended by the Cupid pic, I can ask for it to be removed if so.

NiceGerbil · 12/07/2021 21:50

No not offended!I have good memories of sitting with family watching even if I was very dubious about the characters where he was in drag.

They also always had a pop song. As 'light comedy entertainment' had to include in every episode back then. I have no idea why. Bizarre! Might look it up.

Anyway they had rock the boat once and I loved the song and have loved it evern since!

NiceGerbil · 12/07/2021 21:51

Was just flagging who he was as I think many might not be as old as me!

StrangeLookingParasite · 12/07/2021 22:02

I think we might be of a similar age!

NiceGerbil · 12/07/2021 22:08

Probs!

Remember also

Boob hoiking Les Dawson
Monty python and large amounts of cross dressing men playing harridans then women as sexy ladies
The two Ronnies

Essentially if you were a male comedian just bung on fake boobs dress and makeup and omg instant hilarity!!!

StrangeLookingParasite · 12/07/2021 22:36

Exactly! That voice Terry Jones used to do - the spam sketch, for instance.

NiceGerbil · 13/07/2021 03:05

I still really like the life of Brian and the meaning of life though. And the one with the Knights who say 'ni!'.

The universe song is brilliant.

DivaEx · 13/07/2021 11:18

Bit late to the thread but just wanted to say how much I enjoy Mumsnetters methodically taking down TRA arguments. It's simply beautiful to behold.

Dont know what you're talking about Diva.

It's all Bake Off - and genteel Midsomer Murders n Bridgerton around here.

Only tea drinking, and slow action.

NiceGerbil · 13/07/2021 17:32

I think we're supposed to say

By all that's holy the Bible says NO!
oohh look a pram.

PurpleHoodie · 13/07/2021 20:52

I’ve noticed a lot of the new fangled proms they have about lately.

Envy Pure envy.

Why were they not around years ago?

PurpleHoodie · 13/07/2021 20:53

Prams.

Autocucumber.
