The Scottish Government are seeking views in response to a petition callibg for a ban on conversion therapy:

Of course they have already had input from Stonewall and the usual trans gang...

Jumping ahead as always, the E&W one isn't until Sept, but let's do it twice over.

Tibtom · 08/07/2021 23:09

The SNP always have to show how much better they are than the UK parliament...

OP posts:
OhHolyJesus · 09/07/2021 10:48

Or how much worse...

Tibtom · 09/07/2021 14:38

They sort views on the GRA and then disregarded them and won't publish them.

@AngelicInnocent

They sort views on the GRA and then disregarded them and won't publish them.
I saw that. Apparently someone is going to the ICO about it.

You know, Statsgeek, I shall surprise you and say although it's full of the usual hyperbole I don't necessarily disagree with the sentiment of your post.

Yes, transgender people should have access to appropriate health care, of course.

But are you ignoring the huge numbers of detransitioners that are coming forward? It started as a trickle, but now there are more and more people, every day, coming forward saying that the treatment they had was not appropriate for them. With devastating consequences.

What do you think of Dr Steensma's report which led to puberty blockers being banned in Finland - he was one of the pioneers of the treatment so cannot be accused of transphobia.

It's as simple as saying that there needs to be a range of treatments for something that is obviously a lot more complex than a few little mantras.....

Conversion = change
Hormones = change
Surgery = change
Ban conversion

MiladyBerserko · 10/07/2021 07:39

Where are the results of the GRA consultation?

OldCrone · 10/07/2021 07:40

Some people are trans

What does this mean?

Does it mean that some people have gender dysphoria? If so, that is undoubtedly true.

Is this a medical condition? If not, why does it require medical treatment? If it is a medical condition, wouldn't it be best to find a treatment with the minimum of pharmaceutical or surgical intervention? This minimally invasive treatment shouldn't be termed 'conversion therapy'.

MiladyBerserko · 10/07/2021 07:52

Why has the Scottish government refused a FOI Request to see the responses they said they would publish?

And spent £1m on the hurty feeling Bill. Amazing.

NonnyMouse1337 · 14/07/2021 01:05

Bump!

Rhannion · 14/07/2021 02:21

Bump again ! It’s important to see what’s going on in Scotland

malloo · 06/08/2021 12:36

Just bumping this again - has anyone submitted a response to this? Deadline is 13 August. I'm not very clear about how these things work - is there value in individuals making a submission? The questions seem to be quite open ended and I'm not sure if I'm knowledgeable enough to do this, and a bit nervous about it being published! I can't see anything on For Women Scotland's website about this, I would have thought they would be responding to it.

A lot of the public hear the term "conversion therapy" and think it means trying to convert gay people to being straight, and think yes of course it should be banned.
But for TR activists, "conversion therapy" also includes conversion from trans to cis. This is hugely problematic because they potentially want to lump anything other than pure affirmation/encouragement of someone's trans status into the basket of attempted conversion.
But actually dysphoric children tend usually to desist from dysphoria over time - unless it is affirmed - and to grow up to be gay adults. So some might almost think that "affirmation" is the real conversion therapy.
If the government gets this wrong and backs moderate watch-and-wait approaches towards childhood dysphoria, the effects could be bad.

nauticant · 06/08/2021 12:48

"Conversion therapy" has been covered on the BBC a number of times. Every time, in terms of concrete examples, it is always gay conversion therapy, but when they discuss the scope of the harm "and gender identity" always gets tagged on. As many have said, it's a Trojan Horse.

transdimensional · 06/08/2021 12:58

By "and backs" I meant "and blocks".

You are quite right, nauticant.

Jaysmith71 · 06/08/2021 12:59

This:

This govt are lazy fucks, so it could jut be that. Or it could be embarrasing contents.

Phychiatry profession seems split on "trans-conversion"

oldwomanwhoruns · 06/08/2021 16:31

Have completed. You don't seem to have to be from Scotland, although they do ask for a part postcode.

567fedup · 06/08/2021 16:35

.

nauticant · 06/08/2021 17:15

According to NHS England, conversion therapy - sometimes called "reparative therapy" or "gay cure therapy" - tries to change someone's sexual orientation or gender identity.

www.bbc.co.uk/news/explainers-56496423

Note the shift in meaning, start with "gay cure therapy" or its synonymic phrase "reparative therapy" and then stating that it is when therapy is used to change someone's gender identity.

567fedup · 07/08/2021 10:56

So conversion from in their words "cis" to "trans" never happens, then? That wouldn't be caught by new legislation?
