Scot Gov seeking views on banning conversion therapy

The Scottish Government are seeking views in response to a petition callibg for a ban on conversion therapy:

Of course they have already had input from Stonewall and the usual trans gang...

Deadline to submit views on conversion therapy to the Equalities, Human Rights and Civil Justice Committee is this Friday (13 August).

You don't have to be in Scotland to send in a submission. It's crucial the committee receives views from a wide range of people instead of the usual handful of trans organisations.

You can use points from For Women Scotland's submission to the Canadian govt to write your own. Important to write in your own words as that has more impact than lots of the same generic ones being submitted.

Scottish Government are looking for your views on their 'End Conversion Therapy' petition - closing date 13 August 2021.

Some points to raise include: not to conflate sexual orientation with transgender identity, approx 85-90% of children diagnosed with gender dysphoria desist so it is important not to affirm-only but allow for reconciliation with sexed body, clinicians at Tavistock have warned transitioning homosexual children is a form of conversion. The Committee should speak to FWS, LGB Alliance, detransitioners, and clinicians who have raised the alarm such as David Bell and Michael Biggs.

submitted. In the what should Scot Gov do I put that they need to find out how prevalent conversion therapy is in Scotland first. Who is getting/ giving conversion therapy and where. It's all a bit nebulous. I'm not convinced there is much genuine conversion therapy going on. Find out what and where the problem is first.

I don't have an issue with banning conversion therapy. As long as there an equivalent ban on attempted conversions from "cis" or "questioning" or gay towards trans identities. And as long as there isn't a ban on exploration, understanding and psychological formulation.

I wasn’t asked for a part-postcode? I can’t remember being asked anyway?! But I filled out in my own words just stating that I thought that this ban was confusing two distinctly different issues and that I wholeheartedly supported a ban on gay conversion but couldn’t support this proposal because it was confusing two issues.

I also said I thought conversion therapy of the sort practiced by religious groups, should of course be banned as it is abusive and immoral. Explorative and therapeutic approaches to help understand why a young person might be feeling such a self-loathing of their bodies and seeking an answer to their problems by becoming a different ‘sex’ to the one they were born, is very seldom an approach that comes from a place of ‘hate’. This should not be banned and should not be conflated with gay conversion therapy.

I also said that I hoped the results of this submission would be published.

For Women Scotland have published their own submission, so it should be easy to pick out the main points and write your own.

If you are lesbian / gay / bisexual or have children who are, it's especially important to have your voices heard instead of the usual trans/queer lobby groups pushing gender identity and conflating it with sexual orientation.
