The positive birth company

I’ve just been made aware of the absurd post from the positive birth company (on Instagram) apparently now being pregnant and giving birth is no longer a ‘women centred’ event. I didn’t see the original comments but they (over 1000 comments) were switched off due to ‘hate’. Although reading comments on the post after they seemed more like reasonable questions.. I’ve only just been made aware of what’s actually been happening with all of this, due to Jess de Whals but now my eyes are open and I can’t believe what has been happening.

Welcome aboard!

Blackandwhitehorse · 29/06/2021 20:47

This was the post, thankfully it sounds like a lot of women fought back but they are unrepentant

Is Milli Hill connected to the Positive Birth Company? I thought that she was very pro woman centred care and pro woman…

firstimemamma · 29/06/2021 20:58

I did a positive birth company course back in 2018 and found it good. That was before there was all this bollocks though! If it had been like that back then, there's no way I would've considered it.

Polly99 · 29/06/2021 20:58

No, Milli Hill's thing is the positive birth movement, which I think is different from the PBC, who appear not to know how babies are made.

kitkatsky · 29/06/2021 21:01

Ffs. Regretting paying for their course last year now. If they, of all people, can't stand up for pregnancy and birth being a female experience who can we rely on?

Blackandwhitehorse · 29/06/2021 21:01

No I think it was founded by Siobhan Miller. This appears to have been a relatively recent thing, them going down this route.

Bless them, perhaps they can try to sell their services to some pregnant men to make up for the drop in female custom.

olderthanyouthink · 29/06/2021 21:04

Hmm was thinking of buying their course, perhaps not if they don't think birth is woman centred.

derailment · 29/06/2021 21:04

Words fail me. Someone needs to go back and re-do their GCSE biology!!

derailment · 29/06/2021 21:04

I'm probably showing my age now, do they even do GCSEs anymore?

olderthanyouthink · 29/06/2021 21:05

@derailment Yes but the grading is numbers not letters

MrsOvertonsWindow · 29/06/2021 21:09

" Birth is not a woman-centred event "

Evidently the Positive Birth Company is not keen on working with women. Presumably this is their Ratner moment - instant bankruptcy as the vanishingly few pregnant trans men will never keep them afloat Grin Grin

@firstimemamma

I have just done the course again (second baby) and the content doesn't seem to have changed too much, but I am finding their Instagram tiring now. It used to be full of positive affirmations and the kind of things you wanted to see in the run up to birth but it's turned too political for me. It's sad Sad

I didn't see the original post but I'm glad so many women stood up and said it wasn't right.

emptyplinth · 29/06/2021 21:13

Birth is not woman-centered
Wow. Way to alienate your target market. How very selfish of women to expect a birthing course to be centred on our needs. Hmm

kitkatsky · 29/06/2021 21:18

I'm not on Instagram but if anyone is willing to reply for me... 🤯🤬🤬🤬🤬

boydy99 · 29/06/2021 21:23

@DaisiesandButtercups no Milli Hill is quite outspoken and GC on twitter. She wrote the positive birth book but its not connected afaik to the positive birth company.

Blackandwhitehorse · 29/06/2021 21:24

@kitkatsky they turned off comments Angry so silencing women too. Although there are a fair few more comments under their next post where they try to justify themselves.

I'm really confused.

Is it this company?

courses.thepositivebirthcompany.co.uk/?_ga=2.179051757.875517127.1623765028-495162163.1614178271&gclid=CjwKCAjwieuGBhAsEiwA1Ly_nSl27AnHIdjAdzCyVC_0Pbj1D8LT18kuW3fKZoX1BVRexHVKHsH2hhoC5osQAvD_BwE

They say they are:

"Passionate about empowering women (and birth partners) to create positive birth experiences."

Have they changed their minds?

Blackandwhitehorse · 29/06/2021 21:34

Yes I think that’s it, I think this was a recent ish move to time with PRIDE, but they tentatively hint at it here thepositivebirthcompany.co.uk/lgbtq-inclusivity

merrymouse · 29/06/2021 21:46

To be fair, anyone can buy and use a hypnotherapy birthing course...

Maybe it's a marketing ploy? Who are we to restrict their £39 course (accessible for 12 months after purchase!) to half the population?

AgathaMystery · 29/06/2021 22:06

I honestly don't know where to go after this.

Birth is not a women centred event.

What?! I can't cope.

Shark is jumped.

JustcameoutGC · 29/06/2021 22:09

Okay, can someone plop that on the pregnancy board. That should lose them a few customers.

I think the only thing the fuckers won't come for is the menopause

Blackandwhitehorse · 29/06/2021 22:14

What I find really disturbing though is the amount of women accepting and supporting it. Whether that’s because they genuinely believe it or think it’s the right thing to say to not be ‘transphobic’ who knows. It’s a mind fuck.

OP posts:
JustcameoutGC · 29/06/2021 22:14

Managed to figure it out myself.
