I can only find a DM source:

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-9735219/amp/YouGov-poll-suggests-just-4-cent-women-support-replacement-gendered-toilets-shared-loos.html

4% of women and 10% of men support wholly gender neutral toilets (no single sex availability).

1/3 of people support gender neutral in addition to single sex.

How do we know that the 4% was actually women? I'd be interested to see the parameters.

I'm trying to find the raw tables but haven't so far.

I don't think we even need to know this. 4% is as near to zero as you can get in a survey. Even 10% is pretty conclusive.
heathspeedwell · 29/06/2021 19:32

I hope Boris is listening to this.

Whatsnewpussyhat · 29/06/2021 19:32

Only 10 per cent of Labour supporters backed the idea of the abolition of male and female toilets in favour of gender-neutral ones

Someone should let Keir know....

WeirdAndPissedOff · 29/06/2021 19:34

Not surprised at all at the low results.
I am surprised that the result for those who support an additional gender neutral toilet is so low.
Whilst I can't see a lot of places actually implementing it (additional costs vs just changing signs or policies), to most users its surely no skin off anyone's nose to have an extra one?
Or is it that those who want gender segregated toilets (rather than sex segregated) who are against it do you think?

Congressdingo · 29/06/2021 19:48

Ah but aren't we a tiny minority or something?

This actually made me happy. Assuming that all 4% are in fact female, that means 96% are against. Who will dare to go against so many women? In the end government and policy makers will see these results and think twice about making it law. Its a lot of votes to lose,.

So how long until “plumbing retail website Boiler Central.” Is reported in the Guardian as “alleged to be an anti-trans hate group”?

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 29/06/2021 19:53

4% is much lower than I expected. I would have thought something like 15-20% would support unisex toilets.

I think the 2/3 against additional unisex toilets are suspicious that they will replace the standard provision.

Chersfrozenface · 29/06/2021 19:55

It's on YouGov here yougov.co.uk/topics/philosophy/trackers/support-for-separate-toilets-for-men-and-women-and-gender-neutral-toilets-in-public-spaces

You can see percentages by region, politics, age, social grade and what it calls "gender" which is male and female.

The full question asked is "Do you think public spaces should have separate toilets for men and women, gender neutral toilets, or both?"

OneEpisode · 29/06/2021 20:00

I would vote both actually.
Gender neutral is useful helping a child or disabled family member who wants to aim for some privacy“normality” but actually needs their family member nearby, and same sex family member might not always be available.
But that is definitely in addition to sex segregated facilities.

MiladyBerserko · 29/06/2021 20:04

Sure but the polls needs to ask the questions properly. The questions need to specify whether the facilities need to be single sex.

I support single sex facilities plus a 3rd option, call it gender neutral if you will.

In reality, this will undoubtledly be interpreted to allow males who identify as women to have access to the single female spaces, meaning that there would in fact be only male and mixed sex facilities.

Ekofisk · 29/06/2021 20:06

It’s a biannual survey - I’ve got the data tables for the last release in January:

yougov.co.uk/_pubapis/v5/uk/trackers/support-for-separate-toilets-for-men-and-women-and-gender-neutral-toilets-in-public-spaces/download/

Namenic · 29/06/2021 20:22

I would support gender neutral toilets in addition to single sex. As people have said - it will help with people who need family member close by (but family member is opposite sex).

Ereshkigalangcleg · 29/06/2021 20:24

Even 10% is pretty conclusive.

Agree, this is not popular with the public.

PurpleWh1teGreen · 29/06/2021 20:26

I have filled out a survey about this for them in the last couple of weeks.

All good except that the demographic detail questions asked for my gender and didn't ask about my sex.

I did feed back Grin.

EndoplasmicReticulum · 29/06/2021 20:26

Curious about the people who voted "none of the above". No toilets at all? Wee in a bush?

newstart1337 · 29/06/2021 20:29

How would most businesses have the space to install another toilet?

Would they possibly make the womans toilets smaller to make room for 2 mens toilets?

ArabellaScott · 29/06/2021 20:32

Interesting.

Defaultname · 29/06/2021 20:36

I suspect that the 4% of 'women' have (fore)skin in the game.

Wallpapering · 29/06/2021 20:38

Have to disagree oneepsiode As there has always been this unwritten rule between parents that watch out for others kids not just in toilets but public swimming pool changing areas. I’ve lost count the amount of fathers who have asked me, same as amount times just kept eye on others kids whilst pee in tiny cubicle. Disabled toilets are just and shouldn’t be used as comprise either.

Grates me that women & girls only spaces are so easily given away, as things like baby changing facilities, sanitary bins, disabled toilets to even campaign around ask for Angela posters in loo was not handed on plate. Going into women’s loos and having toilet paper is luxury

Rosegoldglow · 29/06/2021 20:51

I don’t mind gender neutral toilets in addition to male and female ones but I don’t want all toilets to become gender neutral and the option to use a female only toilet to be taken away. I hate the mixed gender toilets in cafes , they always smell like wee

OneEpisode · 29/06/2021 21:02

I have a cognitively disabled family member so side by side loos within the same space, accessible by female cater (me) and male teen would be good for our own circs.
My teen isn’t a little kid (taller than me and his behaviour is sometimes challenging) so it wouldn’t be appropriate to ask nice Wallpapering to help.
But appreciate this is niche, but didn’t want people to think no cunty people would never want mixed sex facilities. It would help me sometimes, and would be better than Endo’s bush option

MrsOvertonsWindow · 29/06/2021 21:04

Good to see this.
Everyone knows that very few women actively want to share toilets with men - it's just that nobody ever asks. And anyone who states that girls, especially teenage girls navigating periods, are desperate to share toilets with boys is outright lying.
But as usual - nobody asks or listens.

LizzieSiddal · 29/06/2021 21:33

I hope every company and Political party has seen this.

Mind you they probably dont care what women think.
