I would say it’s unbelievable but it’s really not! I very much doubt you have to dig too far to see a relationship with stonewall

I work in the charity sector and already have to keep quiet because I’d be sacked for my GC ‘sex is a fact’ views or worse sent off for ‘re education’

The worst thing is, they genuinely think they’re the good guys

This blatant move via twitter is very concerning. I agree with the tweets that say that this must be very widely spread of this person feels safe enough to do this on twitter in front of everyone.

It is appalling that they don’t ever consider the views of women in light of issues when sex matters. They just blindly insist sex never matters. Which is harmful to everyone.

ChristinaXYZ · 29/06/2021 09:29

It is an extraordinary thread. Despite knowing about the Maya judgement they feel able openly discriminate against GC beliefs and to pursue a policy that will likely impact mainly women (more like to be GC) without any suggestion of analysis of that impact despite sex being a protected characteristic. They feel so confident in their righteousness they do not believe being held to account will ever apply to them.

The Charity sector is a complete mess at the moment. It seems to have become a refuge for narcissists and authoritarians. It's the dark side of charity to seek to wield power over others.

I also work in the sector and my charity has been Stonewalled all to hell. I saw that on Twitter and it doesn't surprise me at all.

Since the Maya ruling I've pushed back on pronoun usage and am open (but polite) about my views. No hassle so far.

TrainedByCats · 29/06/2021 09:41

This needs to be reported to the charity commission

FlyPassed · 29/06/2021 09:45

That is disgraceful but I'm glad shesaid that in public. The more these people say the quiet bits loud, the better

PaleGreenGhost · 29/06/2021 09:56

There is a real issue with people who work for charities thinking they are above criticism. It is one hell of a privileged assumption to think that the people you serve, without whom your charity wouldn't exist, actually benefit from an ideological view point that pretends sex doesn't exist. Many are actively harmed.

It is also extremely dangerous to consider that working for a charity equals automatically good intentions. Look at the rapes carried out under the cloak of respectability of working for Oxfam.

Beamur · 29/06/2021 10:12

How well staffed/resourced is the Charity Commission?
The impression I get is not very - although they were challenged over the LGB Alliance..
Might be worth highlighting the various ways that the CC could be doing more to whichever Minister has this in their portfolio. Who funds them?

ScreamingMeMe · 29/06/2021 10:20

Oh you know what, bring it on. And we'll bring on another court case. Idiot.

AtLeastPretendToCare · 29/06/2021 10:41

I see someone is campaigning for the post of witchfinder general

cocoapopfan · 29/06/2021 10:57

I just donated to Sex Matters on the back of this.

Luckily I'm saving money from the charity donations I've been forced to cancel recently.

Yes.

Plenty of information here on contacting and complaining

I thought I was beyond being shocked.

The strutting arrogance of this even after the recent publicity about bullying and inappropriate treatment of people with GD attitudes.

Where is their commitment to Nolan principles? Where is any sense of propriety and due diligence?

What pisses me off is all of a sudden there seems to be lots of apparently heterosexuals telling LGB people they are bigots. See also the Green Party. They know fuck all about the vulnerable young people who are caught up in this, yet those of us who are LGB and may have been those vulnerable young people who thankfully are old enough to have been spared this nonsense are told to STFU. So much for their lip service to "lived experience". They are just the same old bullies in different clothing. Perhaps they'd like to think about one of their young female relatives and then consider how they'd feel if she were to have "top surgery".

EmbarrassingAdmissions · 29/06/2021 13:13

Perhaps they'd like to think about one of their young female relatives and then consider how they'd feel if she were to have "top surgery".

Unfortunately, I think some of them would be thrilled for the validation it brings to them and their social performative roles, rather than thinking through the consequences for that relative (may depend on the proximity of the relationship and consequences).

I also leave room for profound ignorance that there is no transformation of DNA and basic anatomy or physiology are changed only with interventions that are on a staggering scale of invasiveneess.

ScreamingMeMe · 29/06/2021 13:21

Who the fuck does this woman think she is?

It's hard to differentiate from a casting call for The Crucible at times - with people taking the Daniel Day Lewis approach of living the part at all times and never deviating from it.
TabbyStar · 29/06/2021 14:23

I really wonder how long I can stay in the charity sector, as someone who has experienced significant abuse and violence and discrimination because of my sexual orientation and believes in sex as a result. Although on the other hand the people actually doing the hard work on the ground that I speak to (and especially service users!) don't believe in this nonsense, it's mostly those in policy or development roles who seem to be pronouncing on Twitter.

Micemakingclothes · 29/06/2021 14:29

These are my circles and it’s terrifying. What I find especially disturbing is that the people who work in these sectors tend to be well-educated and should be well-versed in how easy it is for a just opinion to be unpopular. They should also understand the importance of defending the right of speech and belief for all because if we don’t it exists for none. The problems do seem to be coming more from the younger generations. The oft-repeated “Those that fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it” as never been more salient.
