Sainsbury don't give a stuff about women...

ChristinaXYZ · 27/06/2021 11:55

... or at least, they don't give stuff about those who want to use the loo as a single sex space.

"Last night, Sainsbury's said: 'We're committed to being a truly inclusive retailer where every single one of our colleagues is treated fairly and with respect.'"

  • unless of course that colleague is a woman who wants a single sex loo or changing room in which case there is absolutely no provision for her none at all.

They can identify all they like. Not legal unless grc, even then there are exceptions/exemptions. All these woke outfits are outside the law. Why so keen? it was/is so hard to get and keep equality for women, black & minority people, diffferently abled...

@AntiSocialDistancer

FFS. I just googled. I should not google on a restful Sunday evening.

"I give you Alex drummond, who tells us they are widening the bandwith of what it means to be a woman, with theys beard and all.

Did you like Alex, isnt they a card with all that bandwith stuff. I mean I'm in awe of anyone who could have a beard that luxurious and still come out with such tripe. I'd be better impressed if Alex could widen the bandwith of men, say that men could wear lippy too and it doesn't make them a woman. But hey, what do I know?

Because they've been Stonewalled.
Soontobe60 · 28/06/2021 08:43

I’d say this opinion is absolutely what many women and lesbian/gay people also think,

Soontobe60 · 28/06/2021 08:47

@FloralBunting

Did you just say coloured races, MishyJDI?

Holy shit.

Interesting how a racist doesn’t understand what homophobia looks like, whilst shouting “transphobic” at women who refuse to share their spaces with people who own a penis.

@Congressdingo

I saw Alex explaining how they missed out on the best time to be a woman, by transitioning in their 40s. Apparently the best time to be a woman is in your early 30s.

Considering that's also the average age to be a Mum with young children I was genuinely confused for someone with a beard to be telling me what a brilliant time in my life it was.

ChristinaXYZ · 28/06/2021 10:18

There is a corking thread on twitter articulating all the reasons why Sainsbury's should not be acting as they are. thinking I might print it out and send to the manger of a couple of local stores.

Ah ya see , that's the power of Alex, theyself thinks that every word theyself utters is of utmost magnitude and absolutely true. Theyself is bringing women together though so there is that.

Ekofisk · 28/06/2021 16:06

And don’t forget, Alex tells us that women can fix cars whilst wearing overalls and getting dirty hands, and it doesn’t make you not-a-woman.

Thanks Alex, I’d never have worked that out for myself, what with my lady brain an’ all Hmm

My best friend works for Sainsbos head office. HQ recently set up new email templates with "opt out" pronouns in the email signature. She's not impressed, and yes, she did opt out!
The latest update of Zoom (5.7.0) includes support for gendered pronouns by default in a basic account and something that needs to be enabled by sysadmin or similar in company/organisational accounts.

I anticipate that in the near future if we're 'invited' to share our pronouns in a meeting, I shall need to ask if they're doing it for Stonewall points. If so, will they be recording the names of those who do and those who don't do this? If so, what do they plan to do with this information, in the light of recent revelations about 'allies' reporting/admonishing/ostracising other staff members on internal staff forums and screenshotting it for points or evidence of their allegiance or as a contribution to Stonewall's WEI submissions.

NewlyGranny · 28/06/2021 16:50

ArabellaScott, I make my own sugar-fee muesli and granola, and dried pears are a delicious addition! I snip them into strips and mix them in. I do the same with dried apricot or mango, depending what I can get. Dried pears are the hardest of all fruits to find.

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 28/06/2021 21:13

I was going to write to the manager of my local Sainsbos, which is where I usually waste money shop. There isn't an email address on the website.

Anyone know how to find an email for your local manager? I want to ask him if he is bringing in the mixed sex facilities to my local store. We are geographically near where that child was sexually assaulted by a trans woman in Kirkcaldy, so it seems particularly unreasonable (although I do see that is illogical!)

Bellringer · 29/06/2021 15:55

Best complain to head or regional office. Need leaflets for staff and customers or use Facebook or online comments

Jux · 30/06/2021 01:03

I used to hassle dh to drive me to Sainsbury's - the closest is about 20 miles away - when I couldn't get what I wanted in the local Co-op - half a mile away and easily reached on my mobility scooter - but I won't any more. There's a Waitrose only 5 more miles away.

NewlyGranny, we also make our own muesli but we use dried raspberries via Amazon; I shall look into dried pears, they sound delicious.

SmallPug · 30/06/2021 06:49

Bellringer I wrote to the CEO - Simon Roberts - and got a reply from Sara Harris (she/her) at his 'Executive Office'. The more people that do this the more effective it'll be.

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 30/06/2021 09:17

Found this address online.

You are right, probably best to go to the top and mention my local manager's name. He's a nice guy, does a lot to ge the local schools and uniformed groups into the supermarket. Well, how can we do that if they can't manage basic safeguarding?

Runningupthecurtains · 30/06/2021 09:40

Your point of view is just out of place with the majority of the population and other women.

Errmmm other women ARE the majority of the population (approx 51% are actual women so when you throw in those that think/feel they are women too it must be a clear majority) and the vast majority of them don't what pensises in female spaces.

Tesla73 · 30/06/2021 10:39

Looks like a takeover is on the cards anyway for Sainsburys

www.standard.co.uk/business/fund-managers-shares-morrisons-sainsbury-private-equity-takeovers-of-uk-plcs-b942035.html

Found this bit interesting especially considering the amount of custom they will lose if they go down this toilet route

"Having once been encouraged by its shareholders to borrow, Sainsbury now pays down hundreds of millions of pounds in debt every year despite generating ample cash to service bigger loans."

finnmcool · 30/06/2021 11:50

am emailing you in regards to your recent contact with our Customer Careline team.

At Sainsbury’s, we aim to be the most inclusive retailer where people love to shop and work. We welcome all members from any community to our stores and customers are able to use the toilet they feel best reflects them.

We recently updated our guidance on colleague toilets and changing rooms and this is based on recommendations made in the Equality Act 2010.

Thanks again for getting in touch, if you have any further questions or queries, please do not hesitate to contact us on ‪0800 636 262‬.

That's the response I got to my complaint. Do Sainsburys still employ under 18's?

Runningupthecurtains · 30/06/2021 11:59

Great the toilet that best reflects me is a single sex, female only one.

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 30/06/2021 13:21

BASED ON WHICH RECOMMENDATIONS?

A letter through the post has more effect. A quick google should give your store manager's name and store address though it is probably also printed on your shop receipt.

I am a middle class, middle aged mother of 3. I am not that organised , because work as busy, as far as shopping goes, I aspire to shopping once a week but I never get around to menu planning and so I'm in there probably 3 days a week.

I buy all the school uniform and quite a lot of my own clothes in there. I buy the paper and stationary for work there.

I don't really want to work out how much money I have spent in there, but it 's more than I intend every single visit.

I expect I am a typical customer.

Aldi is opening up near me. That'll do.

Tesla73 · 30/06/2021 13:45

As i work from home now i have more time to myself and am on my phone alot - i get a bit of extra pocket money from survey sites and what i have found useful lately is when i get one on the likes of sainsburys where there is a box for comments i make sure i mention things like this.

nice to notice too that 99% of them ask for male/female in the first few questions and only a few have options for all the other "genders".

alot of them finish asking opinions on politics and who i would vote for if there was a GE tomorrow and its always a good place to rate Labour/Starmer as worse as possible - i know this little act has an impact as the political Youtube channels i watch will do videos on how bad Labour are doing and they reference the surveys i am seeing
