Alleged potential Labour leadership challenge -

I read today a report in the Telegraph that Dawn Butler is believed to be seriously considering challenging Keir Starmer for leadership of the Labour Party, should Labour lose the Batley and Spen by-election. I’m sorry but the article is behind a paywall.

www.telegraph.co.uk/politics/2021/06/26/keir-starmer-facing-hard-left-leadership-challenge-corbyn-ally/

“It is believed that Ms Butler would gain the support of the 34-strong Socialist Campaign Group of MPs, including Mr Corbyn, John McDonnell and Diane Abbott”.

Note that she also has the support of the champion of women Lloyd Russell-Moyle, he of the Jo Rowling should not weaponise her sexual abuse - sneer, and he has joined Dawn Butler in Batley and Spen.

This Dawn Butler who spectacularly fails to read the room. The MP who ran a poll on Twitter ‘Stonewall vs Liz Truss’ and one that horribly backfired. Not that she noticed.
The MP who declared the anti-science, anti- medical lunacy that babies are born without a sex. And double downed on it when questioned on national TV.

Because what is really going to make the constituents of the red wall run back to Labour is more southern middle class metropolitan wokesters screeching at constituents to deny all logic and get on board with the programme. And if not expect to be tarred as bigots.

I can see it now Dawn Butler as leader and her deputy Lloyd Russell-Moyle.

Labour really do not want power do they?

Dawn Butler?

the one who took the £12k freebie from GLAAD for a lovely holiday in LA?

That Dawn Butler?

Please let this happen. It would mean that for the rest of the year whenever I'm feeling down I'd just think about Dawn Butler as Labour leader and would then be chuckling to myself for a few hours.

Viviennemary · 26/06/2021 22:32

Oh well I expect it's good news for the Tories after their troubles this week.

GrabbingTheWorldByTheLapels · 26/06/2021 23:06

Maybe another Twitter poll for Ms Butler to consider:-

Labour vs Matt Hancock

Close call but I think I know who might edge it.

"including Mr Corbyn, John McDonnell and Diane Abbott”.

This is not the PLP vote-winner that they seem to think it is.

CallMeNutribullet · 26/06/2021 23:18

Oh god, she's really awful

nauticant · 26/06/2021 23:19

If the choice is between a glacial reform process with Labour looking viable again maybe in a decade or two, or a few years of a Dawn Butler led Labour party crashing and burning and coming back from rock bottom, I know which I'd prefer.

GNCQ · 26/06/2021 23:30

Ugh.

They're all shit. All of them. It's so upsetting.

Dawn Butler, Kier Starmer, Boris Johnson, Matt Hancock, the other one who Boris backstabbed at the Tory leadership election who has a G in his name, all of them are hopeless utter scum weasels not deserving of respect in a democratic society.

I don't care what Dawn Butler wants to do, Labour have lost my vote and I sure am not voting Tory. Kier has been a hopeless disappointment.

I think I understand now, the Labour Party is to politics what Spinal Tap was to heavy metal music; do we know who the director is?

MidsomerMurmurs · 27/06/2021 07:45

Haha!!

Dawn Butler: “what’s wrong with being sexy?”
Rest of the band: “it’s sexIST, Dawn”

This sums up how I feel about it. Am chuckling now. Grin
ScreamingMeMe · 27/06/2021 07:53

Oh dear, oh dear. Labour are doomed. They're doomed.

highame · 27/06/2021 08:23

I would look forward to PMQ's every week (though she has said she never has and never would challenge a Labour leader).

Half decent MP's are on the back benches and no doubt will stay there until the shitstorm is over, proving they are wise beyond their capabilities

ChristinaXYZ · 27/06/2021 11:52

I can't believe they would be so daft - but then yes, I can believe it! where does Dawn Butler stand on women's rights / single sex spaces, etc?

Chrysanthemum5 · 27/06/2021 12:06

Grin😂😂😂😂😂Dawn Butler as leader that's hilarious! I'd love to see a female leader but it has to be someone competent

TheFnozwhowasmirage · 27/06/2021 12:35

I've just told my Northern, once labour voting DH about this and he couldn't stop eyerolling.
I'm still laughing now.Grin

FightingtheFoo · 27/06/2021 12:35

This is an insult to Spinal Tap.
FightingtheFoo · 27/06/2021 12:37

Dawn Butler is also the first sitting MP to sign up for video messaging site Cameo where she charges for fan videos.

If only she'd spend a little bit more time listening to her actual constituents.

OldTurtleNewShell · 27/06/2021 12:50

@ChristinaXYZ

I can't believe they would be so daft - but then yes, I can believe it! where does Dawn Butler stand on women's rights / single sex spaces, etc?
Oh, she's full TRA. She's been quite vocal about wanting the sex exemption clause removed. She also claimed that babies are born without a sex. She's completely bonkers.
GCAcademic · 27/06/2021 12:52

Seeing as the demise of the Labour party seems inevitable and ongoing now, perhaps it's best that they hasten that process so that something better can eventually be built from the ground up.

Bollockstothat · 27/06/2021 13:01

I'll believe that story when I see it in a paper that doesn't have an interest in distracting from the government's latest corruption and hypocrisy shitshow.

RedToothBrush · 27/06/2021 13:04

Am i willing to put money on Keir Starmer polling better with the public than Dawn Butler if that happens.

You can only hope that she is the stalking horse for someone actually credible.

Trouble is I'm struggling to work out who is credible.

andyoldlabour · 27/06/2021 13:36

Does the Labour Party really have no idea, how unpopular Dawn Butler is outside the LaLaLand which is the echo chamber they have created?

highame · 27/06/2021 13:37

I think Keir will squeak by in Batley & Spen. They're having to put an awful lot in there and it's importance as a seat is evidenced by the fact that Kim Leadbeater is standing. They're hoping for a bounce from Jo Cox to help them along and it may work. So maybe Dawn could be given Shadow Secretary for Health

Bollockstothat · 27/06/2021 13:53

But the Labour Party aren't fans of her either andyoldlabour. She only got 11% of the vote in the deputy leadership contest last year - she came bottom, behind Grade A ding dong Richard Burgon (the man who appeared not to know Labour lost the 2017 election). Even 18 months ago the tankies were a small part of the party and a lot of them have since fucked off to the People's Front of Judea in disgust at Starmer and Rayner's attempts to win votes and thereby sully the blessed memory of Obi Wan Corbyn. She has zero fucking chance of being leader. One of the people listed as a backer in this shit-stirring piece (Corbyn) isn't a member of the PLP so wouldn't be able to nominate her anyway.

Yes the tankies are always plotting but this piece is just an attempt at distraction from the Hancock shitshow by the Borischer Beobachter.
