The Royal Academy have removed Jess' work from their shop due to a handful of complaints that she's 'transphobic'. If you want to support Jess her website is here.

So sick of these utterly craven organisations. I hope she has a legal case against them for discrimination.

Simultaneously showing the Wallace collection and Jess some love would be good, as the Wallace was ALSO targeted by the same people who targeted the Royal Academy.

If the Wallace didn't cave, they should be rewarded for that.

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 22/06/2021 12:22

The RA has neglected textiles as an art form.

Wouldn't it be wonderful if they hosted an exhibition by way of reparation?

There was an excellent exhibition of samplers at the Museum of Scotland before the pandemic, it was beautiful work exhibited beautifully. Bet they could pull together some ancient Saami socks or a shroud and christening gown that a mother made herself in preparation for childbirth - and some massive ovaries swinging free.

SirVixofVixHall · 22/06/2021 12:22

I love the Wallace Collection, so beautiful.

@RoyalCorgi

Apparently, Michael Cashman has been complaining that nobody has been willing to debate this matter. Another hypocrite.

They are extraordinary, aren't they? Cast your minds back to September 2017, when Maria Maclachlan was attacked by trans activists while she was waiting outside to hear the name of the venue to attend for a meeting about reform of the GRA. Originally Stonewall had been invited to put its side of the debate, had agreed, and then pulled out. Trans activists then targeted the venue so the venue had to be changed - hence why people were waiting outside.

Since then, Stonewall and its allies have repeatedly refused to debate. Only the other day, Ben Cohen had to be brought on to the Today programme to debate with Fanshawe because Stonewall had turned down the invitation.

Stonewall and its representatives seem to have very little, if any, consideration for the truth.

I recently ended up in a 'discussion' with a TRA - he's in a position of authority to both educate and counsel - and this was his response to the assault on Maria Maclachlan, after I complained that he was allowing people to use TERF in what should have been a safe discussion space. He then sent me this.

"I fully understand that you are upset and yes there should be no violence at all, but old racist women get punched in the face, it should not happen but..."

And when I queried him saying "old racist women" he doubled down.

"I am using it as a comparison. People who hold racist views get punched. And people who hold trans exclusionairy [sic] views get punched, it should not happen. But people who are marginalised get upset and they lash out, it is abasic [sic] systems theory."

I say discussion but it was more parroting of the narrative with no real substance. Any woman who might have a concern about these issues is a TERF. Any woman who dislikes the word TERF is a TERF. But also, most TERFs are men. TERFs are the same as racists. Both can get punched and it's basically their own fault for causing people to lash out. Trans women are women so MM was "lashed out at" by a woman.

It didn't matter that the person who punched MM posted on social media that they were going out to look for a TERF to punch, so it was a premeditated attack, not a moment of lashing out. In his world, MM brought it on herself but the lashing out was in the heat of the moment and actually understandable.

He also told me I should lose my job for not understanding all of this, he basically said I was either too stupid (but could be educated) or too bigoted (and therefore hopeless) to have my job. It felt less like a discussion and more like walking through a minefield filled with snakes to me, but I felt I had to speak up all the same.

And then they have the cheek to say they want discussion but people won't talk?

SnoopyLights · 22/06/2021 13:59

Also I wish I'd thought to quote this at him at the time, perhaps changing opinion to facts as I did it.

That sounds horrible SnoopyLights. Well done for having the conversation. It's exhausting and upsetting.

A phrase from your post that jumped out at me was In his world... This is key, because of course men have always controlled the narrative, controlled events, controlled women. This man sees violence (a male reaction to threat) to be an entirely justified defence of the status quo. Women who challenge men will be punished. 'Look what you made me do.' 'She brought it on herself.' He doesn't want to talk, he wants to punch women into silence, to remind them who's in charge.

But of course, it's a progressive movement, about tolerance and kindness. Of course it is.

Cailleach1 · 22/06/2021 14:23

Well, in all fairness for HH, it would have been very difficult for anyone to fathom what the Paedophile Information Exchange had associations with.

And now again, it is very difficult (for her/him/furry) in sport to see who is a man and who is a woman. Maybe Usain Bolt is a woman. How is HH supposed to know the answer to these difficult questions?

Notwithstanding the fact they abandoned chromosome testing which was a very useful tool.

RoyalCorgi · 22/06/2021 14:35

In his world, MM brought it on herself but the lashing out was in the heat of the moment and actually understandable.

Let's be clear about what was happening here: a man was defending the right of men to commit a violent assault on a woman.

Nothing to do with trans. It's just the same old story: men think they have the right to physically attack women who stand up for themselves.

Every person who tries to do the "both sides" stuff should be forced to contemplate this truth.

Cailleach1 · 22/06/2021 14:56

Oh my. The Royal Academy of arts has not distanced itself from Eric Gill, a past Royal Academician.

Seemingly his diaries note incest with his sister and sexual experiments with his dog

Worst of all, his diary described his frequent rapes of his young teenage daughters Petra and Betty

As the Royal Academy only supports artists that share their values, does that mean that the Royal Academy are endorsing raping children and sexually abusing animals?

Yet, it is a step beyond for a woman to say that people don't change biological sex.

I would never have thought this, but they expressly state that they only support artists that share their values and they have not distanced themselves from that Eric Gill.

Cailleach1 · 22/06/2021 15:00

That 'debater' sounds like a man who is pissing himself laughing at being able to get away with enjoyment at punching women in the face. He is obviously loving this new misognyistic vehicle he can hide behind and pretend he is doing it for a good.

He sounds like just any other nasty thug.

toffeebutterpopcorn · 22/06/2021 15:02

I can never quite get how people can think ‘yes of anyone disagrees with my old mum/gran - just lunch ‘em in the face...’. What an absolute arse that creature is.

I didn't state that it's possible to change sex, funny how you all assumed that though. Guilty conscience perhaps, considering I was talking about transphobics using it as a cover.
