The Royal Academy have removed Jess' work from their shop due to a handful of complaints that she's 'transphobic'. If you want to support Jess her website is here.

So sick of these utterly craven organisations. I hope she has a legal case against them for discrimination.

Oooh Rosie ..thats getting close to Transphobia...you coming out as T ...?

YellowFish12 · 22/06/2021 15:19

Simultaneously showing the Wallace collection and Jess some love would be good, as the Wallace was ALSO targeted by the same people who targeted the Royal Academy.

If the Wallace didn't cave, they should be rewarded for that

Agreed

toffeebutterpopcorn · 22/06/2021 15:31

I’ll be walking past there tomorrow. Might pop in. My sister makes lovely things and those flowers would make a very nice prezzie.

ElBandito · 22/06/2021 15:38

@LizzieSiddal

So maybe just hunkering down and hoping this all goes away.

In that case they have underestimate Jess, her supporters and the media.

Do you think the RA will ever post another tweet again?
Beamur · 22/06/2021 15:39

So by your last comment Rosie you do believe that people can change sex?
Because if you don't... you know what that means don't you.

toffeebutterpopcorn · 22/06/2021 15:45

The RA twitter account is gathering dust there.
Posting without comment Biscuit and with no apologies for it being a Daily Mail link www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2304791/How-art-establishment-helped-paedophile-painter-Graham-Ovenden-away-20-years.html
Ye gods, that DM piece about Graham Ovenden. My blood is boiling. Thanks for the link cats

A lot of the 'how dare you suggest he had any ulterior motive' defences sound uncannily familiar (the old 'why are you women so obsessed with genetalia' line springs to mind...)

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 22/06/2021 16:11

@toffeebutterpopcorn

I can never quite get how people can think ‘yes of anyone disagrees with my old mum/gran - just lunch ‘em in the face...’. What an absolute arse that creature is.
Yes. I have heard elderly men and women express views in that vein which I found abhorrent.

Did I punch them in the face?

Reader, I did not.

toffeebutterpopcorn · 22/06/2021 16:17

“Yeah ma, you shouldn’t have dissed the Spurs defence strategy like that. You were asking for it...”

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 22/06/2021 16:20

Wonder what a judge would say if a young Asian man punched a sweet-looking elderly war veteran for making slight racist comments at the bus stop. Or indeed, if I did it.

This is based on a real situation and the elderly man did not get punched.

I don't think a judge would be sympathetic, do you?

DialSquare · 22/06/2021 16:31

“Yeah ma, you shouldn’t have dissed the Spurs defence strategy like that. You were asking for it...”
I personally would shake their hand for dissing Spurs in any way!

@RaindropsOnRosie

I didn't state that it's possible to change sex, funny how you all assumed that though. Guilty conscience perhaps, considering I was talking about transphobics using it as a cover.
*@RaindropsOnRosie*

So, are you saying that it’s possible to change sex, or are you saying that it’s not possible to change sex?

And are you saying that the 'You can't change sex' argument” is transphobic, or are you saying that it’s not transphobic?

@RaindropsOnRosie

Do you or do you not know what you're arguing about because I've made my point pretty clear and you're still struggling. Bless
No, you haven’t made your point clear.

You seem to be confusing ‘person expressing views that I don’t like’ with ‘person who has a phobia’.

No you haven't.

You said:

Which is a bit daft, isn't it? You're saying that we are using the fact you can't change sex as a cover, for, er, the argument that you can't change sex.

nauticant · 22/06/2021 17:47

This is being covered by the PM programme on Radio 4. Although Evan Davis is often pro-gender woo they've actually got Helen Lewis on to comment.

howard97A · 22/06/2021 17:48

@RaindropsOnRosie

Don’t just give up, Rosie. Have a go at answering the questions.

nauticant · 22/06/2021 17:49

"What if an artist had been blatantly racist?" asks Evan Davis. Helen Lewis is pushing back against that intelligently.

cariadlet · 22/06/2021 17:53

Good interview on PM on Radio 4 now with Helen Lewis. If you go on BBC sounds when it's uploaded, it will be about 50 minutes after the start of the programme.

Interesting article; thanks for posting.

"Defending free speech and free association, the right to articulate thoughts and create art without fear of repercussions, are principles that need to be fought for in a pluralistic and democratic society. The arts institutions who mirror the sanctimonious minority by censoring, cancelling or withdrawing work from their spaces must be taken to task and held accountable by the public and, if necessary, by law."

nauticant · 22/06/2021 17:57

It was, wasn't it cariadlet? Because Helen Lewis is by no means a confirmed gender critical feminist that came across as moderate and persuasive.

JoodyBlue · 22/06/2021 17:58

Poor analogy by Helen Lewis with gay marriage.

merrymouse · 22/06/2021 17:58

"What if an artist had been blatantly racist?"

Did all the stuff about Eric Gill go over his head?

cariadlet · 22/06/2021 18:00

Crossposted!

JoodyBlue · 22/06/2021 18:01

"We don't know what the line is yet" she said. Are we waiting to be told what the line is? We do know, and it is not equivalent to not supporting gay marriage. I think actually that interview with Helen Lewis was quite disingenuous sadly, she didn't support Jess de Wahl, neither did she strongly challenge Evan's comparison with direct racism.
