The Royal Academy have removed Jess' work from their shop due to a handful of complaints that she's 'transphobic'. If you want to support Jess her website is here.

So sick of these utterly craven organisations. I hope she has a legal case against them for discrimination.

@NecessaryScene

Here Jess is on GBNews. (Less fun than The Mess We're In though.)

Is it just me, or is GBNews turning out to be great? Some of these stories must be a bit of a culture shock for all the TV viewers who've not been hanging out on Twitter! Grin

Coo. She was allowed to speak for a few minutes, without being interrupted ! Pity no-one mentioned her heretical statement involved saying that women are female, adult and (here's a thought) human!

This from Sarah ditum about the RA and thei4 problem with women

Apparently, Michael Cashman has been complaining that nobody has been willing to debate this matter. Another hypocrite.

They are extraordinary, aren't they? Cast your minds back to September 2017, when Maria Maclachlan was attacked by trans activists while she was waiting outside to hear the name of the venue to attend for a meeting about reform of the GRA. Originally Stonewall had been invited to put its side of the debate, had agreed, and then pulled out. Trans activists then targeted the venue so the venue had to be changed - hence why people were waiting outside.

Since then, Stonewall and its allies have repeatedly refused to debate. Only the other day, Ben Cohen had to be brought on to the Today programme to debate with Fanshawe because Stonewall had turned down the invitation.

Stonewall and its representatives seem to have very little, if any, consideration for the truth.

toffeebutterpopcorn · 22/06/2021 08:35

Those two are always complaining. No credibility.

merrymouse · 22/06/2021 09:08

if Jess denied the identity of Jewish or black artists there would be up roar

As though black and Jewish people are just identifying as or identified as black or Jewish for some non specific reason that nobody can explain.

toffeebutterpopcorn · 22/06/2021 09:10

I’m sure if she said Rachel Dozeal (sp?) was white noone would say a thing.

toffeebutterpopcorn · 22/06/2021 09:13

So the Standard has done a piece backing her up. The Standard!

Cailleach1 · 22/06/2021 09:19

Oh my. The article states that the RA still stocks stuff by 'child rape enthusiast' Gaugain. Is that well known?

And the RA are happy to continue to stock 'mistress abusing' Picasso articles.

Since the Royal Academy seems to be doing a purity performance by saying they can only stock artists whose values they agree with, does that mean they support child rape, and women being abused?

They find it more objectionable when a woman says 'no. pee off with your appropriation' in the face of unsubstantiated, ideological notions about biology.

merrymouse · 22/06/2021 09:20

Gender identity doctrine is a kind of sexism that, by making sex unnamable, places itself cleverly beyond criticism. It’s the same old misogyny, refined and perfected, conveniently emerging just as feminism succeeded in making direct sex discrimination untenable. The Royal Academicians of the past, with their frantic contortions to resist the “female invasion”, would surely have nothing but admiration for this new way to keep women down.

Love this part of the Sarah Ditum article.

Cailleach1 · 22/06/2021 09:25

Maybe we should ask the Royal Academy, if their declaration that they only stock articles from those whose values they support is supposed to be taken at face value, why do they support child abuse and abuse of women.

Cailleach1 · 22/06/2021 09:26

It is a wonderful article.

EvenleyWitch · 22/06/2021 09:43

its nice to be in a forum where the heckling voices screaming transphobia over everything get deleted rather than the person that says 'you cant change sex', which seems to be the case everywhere else.

Reminds me of when Ricky Gervais said in 2019

Exactly. We need to protect the rights of women. Not erode them because some men have found a new cunning way to dominate and demonise an entire sex.

EXCELLENT article.

There is a comment that a man would also have been cancelled. Probably true. But the point is that the currency is higher for women.
A. Women’s art using sex based imagery and references is a feminist provocation that men don’t need to make
B. The punishment for women is far more severe. The vicious sex based insults and death threats on JKR demonstrate that.
C. Women have fewer resources with which to defend themselves. Less power in media, law and government.

So while the ‘transphobia’ accusation is ubiquitous it’s impact is not equal.

howard97A · 22/06/2021 10:40

@ RaindropsOnRosie

You refer to people “using the 'You can't change sex' argument to cover for [their] transphobia …”.

That seems to imply agreement that “using the 'You can't change sex' argument” is not in itself transphobic.

Have I read you right?

LizzieSiddal · 22/06/2021 10:48

The trustees of the RA are incompetent.
Their silence is allowing scrutiny of every single artist they have in their shop or they promote. Discussion about them is going on and on, despite the fact they have been told they are potentially breaking the law.

If they’d issued an apology straight away, as they should have done, this story would have been forgotten by most people. I can’t comprehend what the heck’s going on there!

merrymouse · 22/06/2021 10:53

It’s not going to go away because the next time somebody feels offended by the RA this on the hoof policy will be quoted.

There was a line in one of the pieces about Jess in which she described the RA woman as saying they were going to keep quiet and let everyone express their feelings.

So maybe just hunkering down and hoping this all goes away.

As though black and Jewish people are just identifying as or identified as black or Jewish for some non specific reason that nobody can explain.

The racism of TRAs is barely veiled. They continually talk about black women and trans women as being interchangeable groups that should be allowed into the group "woman". They reveal that they themselves don't regard black women as real women. Black women are women whose ethnicity/skin colour is black, but there's no question that they are female. Trans women are not women. There's no Venn diagram to be made out of Woman (any colour, ethnicity, religion) and Transwoman.
LizzieSiddal · 22/06/2021 11:04

In that case they have underestimate Jess, her supporters and the media.

WeeBisom · 22/06/2021 11:10

I don't get the idea behind the 'there would be uproar if she denied the identity of black or Jewish people'. Would there really? Imagine someone said 'I don't really believe that Beyonce is black'. Wouldn't the reaction just be...confusion? Like wtf are you on about? Now, if someone pretended to be black and this was pointed out ....well, that wouldn't lead to uproar that would be celebrated. It seems that only one kind of fake identity is applauded.

NecessaryScene · 22/06/2021 11:13

Right, there's never "uproar" about denying something that's self-evidently true. It just makes the person doing it look stupid.

There's only ever uproar about denying something that's self-evidently false. In other words, telling the truth. "You're supposed to be lying!"
