The Royal Academy have removed Jess' work from their shop due to a handful of complaints that she's 'transphobic'. If you want to support Jess her website is here.

So sick of these utterly craven organisations. I hope she has a legal case against them for discrimination.

Thanks Marianneunfaithful.
'It isn't the business of the RA to have a position on GC v Gender ideology' - yes, totally agree.

The statement does seem to imply some bias in favour of gender ideology.

This worries me. Saying to trans ideologists that they should tolerate those who believe in XX and XY chromosomes is like saying to Creationists that they should 'tolerate' paintings of the Big Bang - it reduces science and fact to the level of a individually chosen belief rather than established truth. Absolutely delighted that Maya Forstater won her case for Gc beliefs to be protected, I hope this has turned the tide. But I also feel that universal scientific facts should not even need to be protected as beliefs, surely they are above that ?

@toffeebutterpopcorn

If I was a teen girl looking for a role model, she would so be it!
Definitely!

Jess De Wahls' wit, charisma and brilliance is exactly what we (women) needed, at exactly the right time.

(Shit for her, though, she never wanted any of this)

Drinkingallthewine · 25/06/2021 16:43

I'd actually never heard of Jess before but I've just pre-ordered an embroidery patch and I'm looking forward to making something to put it on.

ThinkWittyThoughts · 25/06/2021 17:45

@ScreamingMeMe

Another lovely missive from the right side of history
Hmm, following the "logic" is this person wishing these things on Jess because they believe that will stop Jess from being a woman?

It's a shame they don't see that, actually, hysterectomies and mastectomies are just another shared experience between biological women, and is something we reserve the right to discuss in private away from men.

He sounds charming.

I'm a naice village matron and know a lot of others. Even the most of woke of them spits tacks at some of the batshittery that has been going on.

Jacobdrums · 25/06/2021 18:19

Met another naice village matron for lunch today.

We set the world to rights. We don't agree on everything but we're both passionate about women's lived experiences and how they shape our lives, throughout our lives.

SnoopyLights · 25/06/2021 20:36

They don't seem to see that at all do they? I've seen it used a few times by women though, when they are trying to defend the TRA's - "I've had a hysterectomy, does that mean I'm not a woman?" or "I've been through the menopause so I don't have periods, does that make me a man?"

Of course it doesn't - it just means you are woman who has been through a normal female experience BECAUSE you are a woman.

MyOtherProfile · 26/06/2021 06:38

They (we) are astonished their grandchildren are now upholding even more conservative sex and gender stereotypes than their tut-tutting parents did back in the day.

This from @IvyTwines2 sums it all up for me.

Oh yes the pathetic, pleading, submissive allies and their I've had a hysterectomy/menopause/removal of cervix/removal of ovaries/can't have children, etc am I not a woman bollocks. Of course you are a woman, NO man or TW will EVER have any of those procedures or experiences because they are exclusive to the FEMALE of the species.
ThinkWittyThoughts · 26/06/2021 12:33

Whenever I hear those "arguments", I am soo tempted to ask them:

Why on earth did you chose to put yourself through that? I mean, it must BE a choice, else you'd opt out, wouldn't you?

No?

Oh, so you agree with me - you're still a woman regardless of what surgery you've had. You're still a woman, not matter how far from a feminine stereotype you appear to be.

What was your point again?

...thankfully no one has ever said it to me in person!!

OldCrone · 26/06/2021 12:51

I don't understand why they think they're supporting the TRA side with these statements. It's TRAs who call women 'uterus havers' or 'people who menstruate' so they're actually pointing out how TRAs exclude them as real women and suggest that they're the same as transwomen.

SnoopyLights · 30/06/2021 07:32

The RA have replied now to my email (included below) but I don't feel they have sufficiently explained things so I have replied to ask them what they are doing to ensure any other artist sharing Jess's views won't be treated the same way in the future, what they are doing to support Jess with all the abuse she is receiving as a direct result of the RA's actions towards her, and in light of all the comments on their Instagram apology still being critical or abusive to Jess and those who share her views, what the RA as an organisation are intending to do to safeguard gender critical people and the sex-based rights of women and girls in the future.

"Thank you for your email, and your patience. We have received a large amount of correspondence over the past days. We welcome and appreciate all feedback.
On Wednesday 23 June, the Royal Academy issued an apology to Jess de Wahls. Please see the apology here. We have also reopened discussions with her regarding the restocking of her work.
Best wishes,
The RA team"

I hope they realise this issue isn't going away for them or any other organisation who thinks they can trample over women in this way.

toffeebutterpopcorn · 30/06/2021 07:34

What are they going to do to ensure that staff are 100% clear on policy and 100% clear on their social media use? What happened to their comms bod who did the ‘nahhhhh’ tweet?

FannyCann · 30/06/2021 07:56

Yes I had the same email Snoopy
Thanks for the tip re replying. Smile

BraveBananaBadge · 30/06/2021 08:45

Same reply for me too. Didn't address specific points raised, but didn't really expect anything more than lip service. Certainly worth following up.

Wish44 · 30/06/2021 09:11

Yep… same reply for me too…

DysmalRadius · 30/06/2021 14:36

Me too - I fired off a politely ragey email asking why, after centuries of supporting violent and abusive men, did they suddenly find this moral imperative to exclude a woman based on a dramatically erroneous perception of her personal views.

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 30/06/2021 14:51

Jess is speaking on Baroness Nicholson's webinar on Friday - on free speech.

Worth signing up for, they have been great. Email her office and they'll send you the link. [email protected]

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 30/06/2021 19:47

The trans activists are struggling a lot with her success, and trying to intimidate the RA into reversing the apology.

Trans rights activists participating in the 'London Trans+ Pride' march on Saturday (June 26) stopped outside the Royal Academy of Arts in Piccadilly to boo and jeer the institution. The world-famous Academy had apologised to artist Jess de Wahls after accusing her of transphobia and removing her work from their gift shop. The comment the artist had made was "humans cannot change sex" in 2019. Veteran LGBT rights campaigner Peter Tatchell, who has said the artist "should be challenged" on her views, was seen attending the march holding a sign reading "No LGB without the T". Marchers chanted, "hate speech is not free speech", outside the Royal Academy before boos and shouts of "fascist" and "suck my d*" were heard from the crowd.

As always the mighty penis must be mentioned, no TRA/anti-woman protest is complete without the obligatory adulation of the penis.

FloralBunting · 30/06/2021 20:15

It's, like, totes fascist not to remove the art of people who I disagree with. The fascists throughout history are known for their commitment to free expression and the only way to fight against their evils is to send mobs to demand in threatening terms that only state approved artists are allowed.

SnoopyLights · 30/06/2021 20:24

Why is it always dicks and choking on dicks?

They are literally telling people who they are. It's to be hoped that the RA and other organisations are finally listening.

RedDogsBeg · 30/06/2021 20:27

The lack of any kind of thinking, let alone critical thinking from TRAs and their allies never ceases to amaze me. They shout fascist and nazi at GC women or anyone who disagrees with them and yet their actions and behaviours are the straight out of the playbook of totalitarianism.
Cowbells · 30/06/2021 20:46

The difference between the intelligent, modest grace JdeW conducted herself with when this happened and the mob outrage that someone disagreed with them is so revealing.
