Add Vaishnavi Sundar and Gita Sahgal to the list!
Done! Thank you. These are new names for me. I’ve just had a google and they’re very interesting women. I’ve got a couple of interviews to read of theirs now saved ready for this evening with a cup of tea!

Also Lucy Masoud - luluchops on Twitter. She's funny, clear and to the point, excellent whenever I've heard her (mosty on the radio) and chronically underused by the media I think.

Lucy is excellent. She spoke at the first WPUK meeting I went to (with many women here) in Feb 2018.

I was also pleased to see Tiffany who has been banned from Twitter at Maya’s picnic.

Oh that's brilliant! I miss her.

I noticed this a while ago when I spotted a pattern in my gardening donations

Seems like black women are disproportionately impacted by some aspects of TRA activity

ScreamingMeMe · 14/06/2021 14:59

I'd like to give a shout out to Karen Davies and her fab YouTube videos.

Flowers To all these brilliant, brave women.

I was just thinking that this morning - I guess because it’s the first day of Sonia Appleby’s claim. It’s noticeable isn’t it?

I also thought Maya was dual heritage, sure I read that somewhere

What was Maya's picnic. Can some of you link to the women mentioned as they wouldn't be obvious to some of us not UK based.

Mollyollydolly · 14/06/2021 15:40

Brilliant women all. I thought Maya's mum was of Japanese heritage, sure I've read that somewhere. Only realised this week due to going down rabbit holes on google that it was Maya's father who sued the Pythons for royalties over Spamalot. Why is my brain full of so much trivia yet I cant find my car keys in the morning ..

LizzieSiddal · 14/06/2021 15:46

Yes the number of BAME women with crowd finders for extremely important cases, sees very disproportionate.
I wonder what those white, middle class, privileged men (Fox killer, Talcum X, Simon what’s his name, etc) would have to say about it?!

PandorasMailbox · 14/06/2021 16:20

They very much are. Sport is particularly popular among young black women, and in the US a sporting scholarship to a university represents a way out of poverty. Black women are disproportionately represented in prison and, I would guess, in rape crisis centres. Muslim and Orthodox Jewish women set a particular value on single-sex spaces such as changing rooms, toilets or swimming sessions.

EmbarrassingAdmissions · 14/06/2021 17:21

Gita Sahgal's account of the way she was treated by Amnesty International was eye-opening and distressing in the recent WPUK's A Woman's Place is holding NGOs to account: Women's Rights are Human Rights (4 June 2021)

Gita's section:

Full recording:

A WHRC Feminist Question Time (5 June) was fortunate to have (amongst others) Suzanne Forbes Vierling, on American racism in the colonisation of woman - this sat me back in my chair. I'd no idea appropriation had gone so far in the political conflating of some groups:

Suzanne:

Yeye Luisah Teish on Rainbow flag imperialism gave a fascinating overview of Yoruba traditions and how culture and traditions are ignored/suppressed by NGOs. She also shared her experience of being a black woman in the US.

Interesting. Thank you for pointing this out.
Thank you to all these amazing women too of course!

I was also pleased to see Tiffany who has been banned from Twitter at Maya’s picnic.

That was lovely to see. She’s so young too. We need more younger women onside.

nonny absolutely my thinking and outlook too.
