'Anyone With A Cervix'

HmmHmmHmm I don't know what's worse here. 'Anyone with a cervix' (so presumably including infant girls??), the complete absence of the word women, or the #dropyourpants hashtag.

It’s so gross. Drop your pants? Ugh.

Also non-binary people are NOT all entitled to a smear. They can’t actually describe which category of non-binary people might be eligible. It’s almost amusing to watch….

diggingatrench · 07/06/2021 17:23

We know Twitter is an utter cesspit. Why do people always post tweets here?

Best ignored.

AutistGoth · 07/06/2021 17:25

If I saw or received literature like this, I wouldn't go. At least not without a trusted chaperone (which I can imagine being awkward and embarrassing for them, too). This would put me off going, not encourage me!

It sounds like something a r-pist would say.

NiceGerbil · 07/06/2021 17:28

Digging it was posted by the official government of Guernsey twitter feed.

That's why it's being discussed.

It's not a random individual.
And to all those who think this attack on language is nothing against women, and it goes both ways...

Medical definition of male:
www.medicinenet.com/male/definition.htm

Medical definition of female:
www.medicinenet.com/female/definition.htm
So men are people who produce sperm. (So presumably trans men are not men)

Women are
People who produce eggs.
People who look like women.
People who feel like women.
People who have female chromosomes.

Right.

No, I know. Just all Twitter accounts seem to be run by utter woketards and best ignored.
Sideorderofchips · 07/06/2021 17:41

I was just coming to post this myself. I'm on the sister island and we are a bit,😳 at the wording

NiceGerbil · 07/06/2021 17:43

Lots of people are on Twitter though and so they are using this as a communication channel to reach people.

So it does matter when they put drivel like this.

StealthPolarBear · 07/06/2021 17:47

Are medicine net valid? If so, that's shocking.
Good point made by a pp about how does one know they have a cervix when it's all about feelings. I'll tell you how they figure it out - maybe they ask their granny.

WoolOfBat · 07/06/2021 17:54

Can someone (on Twitter) please ask them how you know if you have a cervix? With the follow up question “what about primary school children?” And “what about my cat”?

Artichokeleaves · 07/06/2021 17:55

#dropyourpants?

#fuckoffyoucrassweirdo

Someone has already
Artichokeleaves · 07/06/2021 18:00

people have repeatedly.

They're being Wokescolded.

ASpoonfulofDust · 07/06/2021 18:15

Director of Public Health for Guernsey seems happy with the campaign.

twitter.com/drnicolabrink/status/1401844546930155523?s=21

And some Guernsey shops will be festooning their storefronts with pants to celebrate this genius 'drop your pants' campaign.

God I hope they don't put up anything with the crass hashtags.

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 07/06/2021 19:30

That language is gruesome. It's derogatory.

I've just received mine, inviting women (yes women) aged 25 to 64, and informing us we can ask for a female nurse or doctor. Thankfully it seems not every NHS trust has been captured (yet), but I'd be willing to kick up an almighty fuss if I received an invitation worded like the one above. As if anyone actively enjoys going for this type of examination, that language could easily put them off. What next? Mammograms inviting us to #GetYourTitsOot? Confused

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 07/06/2021 19:38

I loved this response.

twitter.com/iseult/status/1401935843116388355?s=19

StealthPolarBear · 07/06/2021 19:41

So we're back to 'broken leg in bed three'.
Or does it just apply to conditions thay affect those with cervixes? Oh let me guess.

OchonAgusOchonOh · 07/06/2021 19:43

I got an auto reply from medicine.net thanking me, telling me they review every comment but that they don't reply to individuals.

ArcheryAnnie · 07/06/2021 19:47

For once there's something even worse than the "people with cervixes" bullshit, and it's the #DropYourPants fuckwittery. Do they have no fucking idea that sexual trauma is one very good reason why some women find smears difficult? Fucking hell.

NiceGerbil · 07/06/2021 20:01

Smear ready means on your back with your legs spread to me.

What the hell were they thinking?

This and the tampon ad. Sounds like written by schoolboys.

It's grim. And as others have pointed out it's so trivialising of things which are serious.

Do they think women only respond to messages that sound like they're from carry on doctor?

IntoAir · 07/06/2021 20:18

Yessss! @PurgatoryOfPotholes was just popping in to post that link. Iseult's equivalent for prostate screening is hilarious. Although she makes the point that "Drop your pants" has such connotations of sexual violence & abuse for women, it's doubly flat-footed.

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 07/06/2021 20:29

She's absolutely bang on. It's so crass, I can't even...

TofuDelights · 07/06/2021 20:30

Has anyone got the wording for the Iseult tweet? It's not loading for me, and this whole thing is so grim I could do with a laugh. Thanks!

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 07/06/2021 20:38

Quote.

This year the PROSTATE Screening Awareness Campaign will launch today and run for 3 weeks.

This encourages anyone with a PROSTRATE to have their free screening appointment when invited.

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 07/06/2021 20:39

This is the follow up tweet from Iseult.

Asking women to #DropYourPants has sexual and violent overtones that are not helpful when it comes to cervical screening.

I think public health campaigns should make it clear who needs the screening. I do not think it helpful to reduce people to body parts.
