'Anyone With A Cervix'

HmmHmmHmm I don't know what's worse here. 'Anyone with a cervix' (so presumably including infant girls??), the complete absence of the word women, or the #dropyourpants hashtag.

I always understood that men had pants and women had knickers. Still I suppose there's a pair of y-fronts there too

Yes - I’ve never worn pants - only knickers, and I don’t drop them when I have a smear, I take them off.

Such utterly revolting language has been made up by a juvenile and will only put women - if they know that they have a cervix - off.

Looking forward to their campaign for prostate examinations - no doubt it will be ‘get your cock out’

WoolOfBat · 07/06/2021 15:47

Uppity, I was about to post something similar...

Calling all prostate havers, be ready for your exam

#dropyourpants #bendover

genius, will increase uptake of screenings for prostate cancer as well!

Datun · 07/06/2021 15:55

Drop your pants? Dear God. They certainly know who they're talking to, despite the fact they can't say the word, don't they?

Prostate cancer check? Come on, let's make it all happy clappy, so all those men, sorry people with penises, know what to do.

#Bend over? #Spread 'em?

I wouldn't hold my breath waiting.

Great minds Datun Grin. They should ask the two of us to come up with the campaign for the ejaculators Grin

Haha! I could actually get quite creative Grin
IslandLulu · 07/06/2021 16:24

The language is just awful all round.

Needs complaints.

findyourbacon · 07/06/2021 16:29

Drop your pants?? Eugh sounds like all those awful lads mags in the 90s.

The comments on twitter are encouraging though!

Those definitions Angry Confused

A meaningless word salad to define women because things have changed. The only things that has changed is that the medical profession now employs idiots.

MoonlightApple · 07/06/2021 16:35

I have also sent them a similar query. Great minds.

MoonlightApple · 07/06/2021 16:36

Apologies, this was in reference to OchonAgus’ post.

AppleDumplin · 07/06/2021 16:39

Got my nhs smear invite letter today and was pleased to see it said 'all women are invited....' rather than any of the ridiculous language referred to on here.

danadas · 07/06/2021 16:46

The sad thing is, women who have been subjected to sexual traumas and are already more likely to avoid or delay their screening would surely be disincentivised further by the #dropyourpants language. Completely missing the needs of sections of society that need encouragement the most.

NiceGerbil · 07/06/2021 16:46

Omg

Drop your pants (knickers). ??!!!

Smear ready for me meant on your back with no underwear on and your legs spread.
I didn't make the beach ready connection as I'm getting on a bit and it's just not a link I made.

Letsgetreadytocrumble · 07/06/2021 16:47

Drop your pants???

What the actual FUCK???

NiceGerbil · 07/06/2021 16:48

My question with this sort of thing is always

How does anyone know for a fact they have acervix before their first smear?

Most don't, it's assumed you have one if you're female (if you even know what it means).

So you can't mention anything connecting cervix to female even the though you're to assume you have a cervix because you're female.

Looks like it is the same advertising agency as the one behind that awful Tampax advert.

drum123 · 07/06/2021 16:58

@OchonAgusOchonOh, I have contacted medicinenet also. Be interesting to see if anyone gets back to us.

drum123 · 07/06/2021 16:59

moonlight apple, my post is to you too.

Cailleach1 · 07/06/2021 17:10

@gov.gg are creating a truly revolting impression. They make it sound really disgusting.

It strikes me that it appears to be more important to Guernsey Cervical Screening Awareness Campaign that they publicly profess their adherence to identity politics over health considerations. One gets the impression that they regard it as secondary if a few women die here and there. Otherwise, if health was their priority, they would clearly and unequivocally target women; as women are the only sex who get cervical cancer.

Wow!

Female: The traditional definition of female was "an individual of the sex that bears young" or "that produces ova or eggs". However, things are not so simple today. Female can be defined by physical appearance, by chromosome constitution (see Female chromosome complement), or by gender identification. Female chromosome complement: The large majority of females have a 46, XX chromosome complement (46 chromosomes including two X chromosomes). A minority of females have other chromosome constitutions such as 45,X (45 chromosomes including only one X chromosome) and 47,XXX (47 chromosomes including three X chromosomes).

Male: The sex that produces spermatozoa.

!!

Babdoc · 07/06/2021 17:11

I’m a retired doctor, and once had to carefully persuade a sex abuse survivor to come in for the urgent abnormal smear follow up that she had avoided for over five years.
This utterly vile campaign would have put her off completely.
As it was, we had to guarantee a female colposcopist and female nurse before we could persuade her to attend. Fortunately, in those days, female actually meant woman.

WarOnWoman · 07/06/2021 17:16

Bloody hell, Horizon. ShockAngry

The Guernsey campaign is vile. I shuddered when I read it. Totally off putting. #fuckoff
