Organisations Leaving Stonewall: The List

Barracker · 29/05/2021 19:50

Thought it would be handy to keep a running list here of organisations who have done 'budget reviews' or similar and have subsequently decided that Stonewall are 'not value for money'.

EHRC
ACAS
House of Commons
DVLA
Dorset Police
The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government

Do feel free to update the thread as more join the exodus.

Out of interest, at what point will Stonewall have to ditch the whole scheme because it's lost so much prestige?

Will they grimly cling on to the last few payments or make a strategic withdrawal and try a new funding source?

Organisations have already started doing their work for their next WEI submissions because they open later this month. And some members have signed up to this scheme for 3 years at a time so it will be interesting to see how this can be resolved.

@Sophoclesthefox

My eyes are on stalks reading those quotations from the MOJ 😳 that is one sick burn.

1400 pages of documentation, though. It’s absurd. I am willing to bet that the 1400 page submission was read one time or less. Then popped in a (virtual) drawer and never seen again.

I'm betting a senior civil servant or sentient senior SpAd has now actually had a look at it, realised it's as fucking deranged as Oxford University's sumbission, and done a Malcolm Tucker.
AfternoonToffee · 05/06/2021 22:12

They really should have proof-read that.

Shedbuilder · 05/06/2021 22:56

Yes, the number of errors in Stonewall comms give the impression that individuals are just bashing this stuff out and no second or third set of eyes is actually reading it.

WarriorN · 05/06/2021 23:05

Btw, slightly off tangent, I've just come across this very useful collation of info on stonewall in recent years via various articles and situations

Brilliant list, thanks @WarriorN very useful.

FannyCann · 05/06/2021 23:47

I noticed the National Lottery Community Fund on the stonewall champions list. Am I right in thinking they are immune from FOI?

And also that they have allocated considerable funding to mermaids and ?to stonewall?

Anyway I'm sending them a SexMatters #LeaveStonewall letter tomorrow.

Paralithic · 06/06/2021 06:58

Some more additions to the list:

Nationwide Building Society
Hounslow Council
Thurrock Council

WarriorN · 06/06/2021 08:25

Shared by tervens elsewhere!

I noticed on twitter last night that GoFundMe twitter were seriously promoting a Stonewall online music event. Figures. Angry

Our position remains the same: women's rights are not Stonewall's to give away. There are no exceptions to the democratic process. I just had to post this somewhere FiLiA rocks

In the comments of that thread is someone saying UCL left in 2019 and others saying it's still a member.

I know how difficult it is to decode this information - not helped by organisations giving incorrect information. I posted an updated list after going through the FOAIs but I can see Uni of Bedfordshire misrepresented their position.

snowcobra · 06/06/2021 21:12

Looks like Sex Matters confirmed that UCL has left

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 06/06/2021 21:24

It doesn't help that Stonewall has hidden their recent list behind a "join up as a member" wall -- or at least, I can't access it unless I am either a member or an affiliated organisation, which I ain't. So I have no idea what their claims are at present.

FOJN · 06/06/2021 21:37

Where is Ruth Hunt? Is she in hiding?

The house of Lords. It would be nice to think she will be called to account but I won't hold my breath.

SirVixofVixHall · 06/06/2021 23:16

Ruth Hunt, what a turncoat .

ixqik · 07/06/2021 06:13

This article is a good artefact to look back may have been the peak of the Stonefall gravy train. <a class="break-all" href="https://web.archive.org/web/20210606121526/www.civilserviceworld.com/professions/article/ministry-of-justice-one-of-11-government-bodies-in-top-100-lgbtinclusive-employers" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">web.archive.org/web/20210606121526/www.civilserviceworld.com/professions/article/ministry-of-justice-one-of-11-government-bodies-in-top-100-lgbtinclusive-employers

It was archived on the 19th May, just before they took it down:

So SW compile a list of the top 100, then you pay them to help you get higher, but they’re also being paid to help others to get higher too, which could push you down the list? Sounds like money well spent Shock

highame · 07/06/2021 08:05

Looking at the Peak trans list. It's amazing how many articles arrive in 2021 and we're only half way through. The list each year getting longer from the 1 in 2018.

FannyCann · 07/06/2021 08:06

Just quickly posting this twitter thread from Sarah Phillimore which discusses the global marketing of Stonewall within one of the major law firms. It must be awful to be a female employee in one of these firms, or indeed just an average straight guy, who's not much interested in other people's sexuality/gender.
