Kishwer Falkner 'resolutely focussed on enforcing equality legislation rather than a running commentary on equality issues.'

Yes!

ArabellaScott · 25/05/2021 16:05

Yas!!

ArabellaScott · 25/05/2021 16:05

Oh, it's Caroline Nope.

A link to the other thread that's discussing this

These are great comments findthe

My aim is not to make this a specialised conversation amongst a few groups

This especially, recognises that some sordid stats have been used 'It's important our work is embedded in data and evidence'

Shedbuilder · 25/05/2021 16:17

Can't see anyone actually discussing this on the other thread. This is it.

ArabellaScott · 25/05/2021 16:37

Argh, missing chunks of htis. Seems to be actually discussing various inequalities like geographical/social/class etc, which is refreshing

FindTheTruth · 25/05/2021 16:44

'we must make sure everyone is treated fairly regardless of where they live, their race, their sex, their sexuality or disability'

Noakes started off with LGBT but I think Liz Truss put her straight. Noakes likes to make a flourishing final comment and then move on without a Truss getting a chance at reply, but Truss is unfazed.

FindTheTruth · 25/05/2021 16:44

'I believe the way to do this, is to focus very firmly on fairness for each individual'

'I've commissioned the equality data programme which is identifying the biggest gaps in terms of equality of opportunity across the country, but also across the groups I've just mentioned above'

''we are not responsible for doing other deparments' homework' - Truss.

Liking her more by the minute.

''we are not responsible for doing other deparments' homework' - Truss.

Liking her more by the minute.

She rocks.
ArabellaScott · 25/05/2021 16:50

'empowering women, educating women and girls'

It's so refreshing to hear simple, straightforward language. Mazing.

jeaux90 · 25/05/2021 16:51

I loved her on LBC yesterday "women have vaginas Nick" she absolutely rocks.

ArabellaScott · 25/05/2021 16:51

Now talking about VAWG.

ArabellaScott · 25/05/2021 16:58

Ah, someone on now to refocus us on the LGBT issues.

Truss again:

'we should be focussed on individual dignity'
'sometimes these issues come into conflict'

conversion therapy ... 'I find that completely abhorrent'

Noakes really doesn't look happy, does she? I think Truss has really pissed on her chips.

highame · 25/05/2021 17:02

Noakes really doesn't look happy, does she? I think Truss has really pissed on her chips. If Noakes ever wonders why she's not a Minister, this select committee today shows the reasons

Mollyollydolly · 25/05/2021 17:03

All through Brexit I couldn't stand Liz Truss, now I have a lot of respect for her. One thing this has taught me you can agree about some things and not others. She takes no shit.

FindTheTruth · 25/05/2021 17:29

'one of the criticisms I have of the identity politics approach, is it seeks to divide people into different groups. all of us have multifaceted identities, what connects us all is we are human'

OP posts:
Shedbuilder · 25/05/2021 17:30

Yes. On this she's right and I'm grateful that she's taking a strong line rather than just trying to kick it into the long grass and hoping it'll go away. I think a very strong message is being sent to Stonewall. They really have pissed on their chips.

I think there's a lot of pent-up resentment at having to go along with Stonewall because it's Stonewall all these years. Stonewall overreached and now everyone is at last able to say no.

Now we need urgently to find a way of preventing Stonewall, Mermaids and all the other purveyors of gender crap getting into schools.
