Why would we need the casts of transwomens faces to highlight the murders of transwomen, in a country where it rarely happens. 🙄 Transwomen are pretty much the safest group in the UK.

Except for on here Wink
Erikrie · 24/05/2021 17:44

Well, words on a screen aren't literal violence are they, no matter how much you'd like to change the meaning of words ☺️

EdgeOfACoin · 24/05/2021 17:44

In what way are transwomen 'unsafe' on a public messaging board, Mishy?

What a very odd statement.

CorvusPurpureus · 24/05/2021 17:47

Well, there's unsafe from people pointing out your history howlers, I suppose?

Erikrie · 24/05/2021 17:47

Odd statements seem to be the norm for some on here. Including not understanding what a woman is. Bizarre really.

EdgeOfACoin · 24/05/2021 17:49

I agree that a plinth featuring transwomen who have been murdered in other countries is an odd choice for the fourth plinth too.

I hope they'll go with another option.

Theeyeballsinthesky · 24/05/2021 17:55

It’s open to public comment so I’ve commented on the options I’d prefer and why

NecessaryScene1 · 24/05/2021 17:57

Aye. We've been known to use... sarcasm. We know all the tricks, dramatic irony, metaphor, bathos, puns, parody, litotes and... satire. We are vicious.

Erikrie · 24/05/2021 17:57

Maybe we could have a plinth featuring all the murdered women in the UK. Oh, wait, there wouldn't be enough room would there.

IAmFleshIAmBone · 24/05/2021 17:59

Yep. It's funny that when deciding who to murder, men know exactly who the actual women are.

UnkindlyMay · 24/05/2021 17:59

Ooh, what’s litotes, apart from possibly a decent score in Scrabble?

Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons · 24/05/2021 18:00

Because what we really need are more statues of males in public places, there definitely aren't enough Hmm

Whatsnewpussyhat · 24/05/2021 18:01

It will be to push the false narrative that they are somehow the most murdered 'folk' on the planet.

NecessaryScene1 · 24/05/2021 18:04

You've made me look it up now. No idea. That was from a Monty Python sketch.

"a figure of speech and form of verbal irony in which understatement is used to emphasize a point by stating a negative to further affirm a positive, often incorporating double negatives for effect."

So, perhaps, "alankermode did not provide the most coherent contribution to the thread".

My first thought was of Cynthia Albritton, an American artist and self-described "recovering groupie" who gained fame for creating plaster casts of famous persons' erect penises.
Then for one awful moment, I thought the intention was to depict murdered prostitutes.
.But in fact, neither is proposed.

I say 'awful' because I'd been a bit jocular about the proposal, but in fact the depictees would be alive and (sometimes) kicking.

OP posts:
IAmFleshIAmBone · 24/05/2021 18:14

I have to admit from the title of this thread I thought it was going to be about penises too.

Defaultname · 24/05/2021 18:19

I've just twigged that the Wiki entry I got the Cynthia Albritton stuff from (uncredited: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cynthia_Plaster_Caster ) mentions casts of 'persons' penises', rather than men's! Though 'men's penises' is itself a tautology. Or it used to be...

Sad
Mummyoflittledragon · 24/05/2021 18:33

Hopefully they will go for something else. Really inappropriate considering the number of women murdered annually in the uk.

Campervan69 · 24/05/2021 18:38

The artist wants to use living trans women, most of whom are apparently sex workers. Then she goes on to say most of them live in the UK. Dont really understand.

badpuma · 24/05/2021 18:38

Thanks op. I've voted for one I think is appropriate for its location (not that one)

MrsOvertonsWindow · 24/05/2021 18:39

They're just covering the new proposals for the plinths on the BBC local news. Interesting to see what they say
