Don’t suppose we could have an actual proper Mary Wollstonecraft since they got it so badly wrong the first time could we?
They'd never put it on the fourth plinth, it would have to have some sort of twist to it. The sculptures there are only temporary anyway.
It would be good to have a proper, permanent, commemorative statue of her somewhere.
I didn't like Hambling's sculpture but I don't think there's anything wrong with an artist interpreting her subject however she wishes. The problem was that everyone was looking forward to getting a commemorative statue which is a quite different thing from an artist's sculpture. A statue is about the person it represents whereas a sculpture is more about how the artist sees or thinks of them.
