Scottish woman told would be charged for homophobic and transphobic tweets

twitter.com/millar_marion/status/1396039074239164423?s=19

On Wednesday April the 28th 2021 I received a call from a PC Laura Daley from police scotland requesting i attend an interview for homophobic and transphobic tweets under the milacious communications act.

I was asked to attend that coming Friday, she told me I had to attend East Kilbride police station so I could be then transported to Cathcart police station in a police car because I would have to go to a police station where there is holding cells, I would be then processed, questioned and then most likely charged.

I told her I would not be attending any interview on that day especially with it being a bank holiday weekend because my autistic twins needed me and I was scared I would be held all weekend.

To this she told me she would attend my house with social workers for my boys.

I contacted a solicitor straight away and he was unable to get PC Daley so for the first bank holiday in May I sent my disabled twins away for fear of this officer carrying out this threat.

This absolute nonsense has been hanging over my head for a month, I can barely sleep
or eat and I still don't know what the offending tweet is, my new interview has been scheduled for Thursday the 27th May, I will find out what I am supposed to have said at that point and if I will be indeed charged, again at another bank holiday, I just want to say, anyone who knows me, knows I am not homophobic or transphobic, I am a hard working mummy who would fight to the end for the safety and dignity of women and girls and for my vulnerable twinnies.

If we sit back and do nothing we will regret it for ever. For this reason I will never
Wheesht.

"I would be very happy to pay handsomely for, oh, say a paperclip"

Wouldn't suspicions be raised if banks found out paperclips were being sold for £100 each? They might think money laundering or something was going on.

And re the idea of leaving ribbons lying around everywhere, wouldn't that be littering? And when people find out who the ribbons represent that isn't exactly going to make them run to join is it? There has to be a better way than littering the city with ribbons?

Nodal · 05/06/2021 19:25

So we're going with the PayPal on her twitter now right?

I'm good with the ribbons. Sometimes you need a visual symbol.

ArabellaScott · 05/06/2021 19:28

If need be we can post tenners to a PO box, ffs.

KimikosNightmare · 05/06/2021 19:28

There really isn't anything to complain about here. What she has been charged with clearly violates their terms.

Most crimes will, given that violence and financial crimes are excluded, not be fundable.

There may be very little funding for criminal defence which would be acceptable- possibly Road Traffic or Construction and Use violations.

ScreamingMeMe · 05/06/2021 19:30

"Littering" Hmm

NecessaryScene · 05/06/2021 19:30

You'd be happy with a go fund me for rapists or paedophiles then? Or for the bloke who made threats to Joanna Cherry?

Alleged, would be the key word. Either you're letting people accused of crimes raise defence funds or not.

Given that they're all alleged, they're all innocent until proven guilty. Someone legally innocent of rape should be treated the same as someone legally innocent of ribboning.

You know, I'm so fucking angry right now that I'd travel from the West Midlands to Scotland and put the fucking money directly into Marion's hands, if that's what it takes.
ArabellaScott · 05/06/2021 19:33

The point of a trial is to ascertain guilt or prove innocence.

Nobody is guilty until proven so.

For those who don't understand how our legal system works; this is quite an important part of it.

toffeebutterpopcorn · 05/06/2021 19:34

Could her lawyers set up a fund

ArabellaScott · 05/06/2021 19:34

yourhair, I think the collective rage of UK women can probably be seen from space right now.

Nodal · 05/06/2021 19:35

I've just sent Marion double my original gofundme amount via PayPal. I don't even care if it turns out to be a scam!

PronounssheRa · 05/06/2021 19:36

Go fund me allowed count dankulas fund raising to stay up. He's the guy who was convicted for the teaching a pug to nazi salute.

That was a criminal conviction.

ArabellaScott · 05/06/2021 19:37

Ah, but he was a bloke, sheRa. It's different.

KimikosNightmare · 05/06/2021 19:39

I'm not sure what your point is. Go fund me quite clearly does not allow funding of almost all criminal cases.

The "right" to use Go fund me is set by Go fund me. It has nothing to do with rights under the law of the UK.

The ribbons flying all around the world are a very powerful symbol and I'm loving all the pictures on twitter.

The usual disgusting suspects are positively orgasmic on Twitter. Ugh.

Tick tock though

MummBraTheEverLeaking · 05/06/2021 19:43

Not surprised @BoreOfWhabylon. Well I've just donated via paypal so fuck em Grin

ScreamingMeMe · 05/06/2021 19:44

All they have is dirty tricks.

PronounssheRa · 05/06/2021 19:46

Untrue

Count Dankula found guilty of being "grossly offensive" under section 127 of the Offensive Communications Act 2003, but allowed to use go fund me for an appeal..

Marion also questioned under Communications Act 2003, not allowed to fund raise.

One was allowed to fund raise the other not. What's the different (rhetorical question)

FOJN · 05/06/2021 19:49

For now. Getting the gofundme taken down means they know times up. Let them enjoy while they can.

PayPal wants me to log in but I don't have (or want) an account. Am I missing a way to donate without signing up?

How will everyone who has already donated know the fund raiser has been taken down?

KimikosNightmare · 05/06/2021 19:51

I'm sure everyone knows that.

Go Fund Me is a private business. It has every right, as long as it does not discriminate unlawfully, to set its terms. They have decided that almost all funding for criminal defence is not acceptable.

That position has nothing whatsoever to do with the criminal justice system. The non- availability of Go Fund Me is completely irrelevant.

flippertygibbit · 05/06/2021 19:52

Paypal donation done. Seen my first ribbons in Kirkcaldy today :)

@FOJN the only way to use paypal is for someone to send you an invoice, you click paynow and pay via your card.

If you have a credit or debit card I would suggest you sign up for PayPal, make your donation but do not leave any card linked to the account.

PayPal is very safe and very useful.

BoreOfWhabylon · 05/06/2021 19:53

Marion has set up a dedicated PayPal

BoreOfWhabylon · 05/06/2021 19:54

sorry didn't refresh
