On Wednesday April the 28th 2021 I received a call from a PC Laura Daley from police scotland requesting i attend an interview for homophobic and transphobic tweets under the milacious communications act.

I was asked to attend that coming Friday, she told me I had to attend East Kilbride police station so I could be then transported to Cathcart police station in a police car because I would have to go to a police station where there is holding cells, I would be then processed, questioned and then most likely charged.

I told her I would not be attending any interview on that day especially with it being a bank holiday weekend because my autistic twins needed me and I was scared I would be held all weekend.

To this she told me she would attend my house with social workers for my boys.

I contacted a solicitor straight away and he was unable to get PC Daley so for the first bank holiday in May I sent my disabled twins away for fear of this officer carrying out this threat.

This absolute nonsense has been hanging over my head for a month, I can barely sleep
or eat and I still don't know what the offending tweet is, my new interview has been scheduled for Thursday the 27th May, I will find out what I am supposed to have said at that point and if I will be indeed charged, again at another bank holiday, I just want to say, anyone who knows me, knows I am not homophobic or transphobic, I am a hard working mummy who would fight to the end for the safety and dignity of women and girls and for my vulnerable twinnies.

If we sit back and do nothing we will regret it for ever. For this reason I will never
Wheesht.

I am trying to add screenshot of the survey.

Why are they so obsessed with the T? This isn’t even a survey on gender/sex etc it’s a bloody general questionnaire .

Threatening to have her kids (who are autistic) taken into care. FFS.

A fucking police constable.

OldTurtleNewShell · 22/05/2021 17:41

I'm quite horrified that they won't even tell her what the tweets are. And the comment about the social worker? Holy fuck! Shock
I'm no longer on twitter but if she mentions she has a funder for legal fees, let us know. I'd be more than happy to get digging.

Thanks, I'll have a look.

Someone commented incredulously on twitter (can't find exact post or person to credit right now) to the effect that This tweet was so serious that someone reported it to the police rather than to Twitter, so serious that the police won't tell her what the offending tweet is, and rather than ask Twitter to take it down they leave it up there for a month while she's threatened with arrest and being taken into custody and her SN children taken into care over a bank holiday weekend...

It is very hard to credit that the complaint is anything other than politically motivated, rather than coming from a place of genuine fear. And quite hard to take the PC's own actions as completely neutral.

Exactly! And for that?! I can't think of anyone I know who has a child with autism who has been accorded adequate even respite care in Scotland, and they threaten to remove two children with autism for a tweet?!! WTAF?!
There is no legal definition of 'transphobia', and they have refused to tell her what her offending comments are.
You have the right to know what you are being charged with.

The problem is that she hasn't been charged, so is in limbo.

WagnersFourthSymphony · 22/05/2021 18:32

I'm expecting (and hoping!) she'll be released without charge. But the chilling effect will have been achieved.

It's really shocking to see people on her timeline accusing her of transphobia for stating biological facts, and her concern that some biological males will take advantage of self ID to invade women's spaces with ill-intent.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 22/05/2021 18:39

An apology would be nice too...

But the chilling effect will have been achieved

This is the big problem IMO. The police don't seem to understand / care that they are being used to scare women into not speaking. It doesn't matter if she is not charged, she has still gone through what most people would find a fairly terrifying experience. An uppity woman punished as a warning to others.

There ought to be guidance that complaints cannot be made anonymously, and if no charges are made the complainant should have a visit from the police to explain the law, and the perils of wasting time.

The change to the protections in Scotland is in force just recently isn't it?

How many other people have had calls from the police I wonder?

The way she is being treated (you must attend/ we're not going to tell you what the actual thing you've done wrong is/ social services will have your kids/ you will be placed in a holding cell...

For a tweet?

They don't do all that for most crimes do they?

I mean if it was stalking and credible threats to kill, maybe. But seems unlikely that's what's happened..

Everyone says this was going to happen didn't they.

It's mindbogglingly scary tbh.

Of course rape threats to women etc are ok as women aren't protected.

It's disgusting.
So the polis want to ‘know what you think’ - www.scotland.police.uk/youth-hub/tell-us-what-you-think/
I completed it. I'm irritated by the ethnicity option- It has "White Scottish" or "White Other British". I'm not "other British" - I'm British.

NiceGerbil · 22/05/2021 19:14

They want to find out how many are Scots as opposed to English Welsh Northern Irish.

If they just put British as you suggest then they wouldn't know would they.

I cannot for the life of me understand why you have been annoyed by this?

Has it made you feel 'othered'??!!

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 22/05/2021 19:15

You can also tell them what you think on another survey.

“Police Scotland are conducting a survey to elicit public views of operational policing.
They say, "Public feedback has driven positive changes to operational policing across Scotland during the most challenging of times".

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 22/05/2021 19:16

Hang on, ignore me. I checked both links and it seems to be the same survey.

EsmaCannonball · 22/05/2021 19:24

When I think of the sheer number of truly damaging crimes committed by men that don't even get investigated, let alone see the perpetrator wind up in prison, and then think of the police harassing women with this shit or women being jailed over unpaid licence fee fines, it makes my blood boil. The police are becoming lazy-arsed, thick, politically motivated fuckers. Just what is the point of them? I don't agree with all that abolish the police stuff but I'm starting to think it's already happening by stealth.

If this ever happens to me I'm going to announce my gender fluidity, change my pronouns every half hour and then sue them if they get them wrong or put me in the wrong facilities. I might announce I'm called Derek halfway through a strip-search and scream the place down because a woman is touching my man-vulva. Wankers.

Cabinfever10 · 22/05/2021 19:42

For anyone filling in this survey if you tick the other marker when asked for your gender identity it enables the free space box which has plenty of space to point out that you have a sex not gender 😉

dyslek · 22/05/2021 19:42

I was assulted by a man who lives in the same building as me. I had photos of bruses, an independent witness and hundreds of abusive unsolicited emails and texts from this neighbour.
The police said they could not prosecute because he had denied it.

So now you know what you have to do on the 27th, just deny anything. Its that simple right?

EsmaCannonball · 22/05/2021 19:50

It's very interesting on Twitter that the #ACAB and #defundthepolice lot are fully behind the police being used as a tool of political intimidation. They're scarily totalitarian.

ScreamingMeMe · 22/05/2021 19:58

I hope this hits the newspapers.
