twitter.com/millar_marion/status/1396039074239164423?s=19

On Wednesday April the 28th 2021 I received a call from a PC Laura Daley from police scotland requesting i attend an interview for homophobic and transphobic tweets under the milacious communications act.

I was asked to attend that coming Friday, she told me I had to attend East Kilbride police station so I could be then transported to Cathcart police station in a police car because I would have to go to a police station where there is holding cells, I would be then processed, questioned and then most likely charged.

I told her I would not be attending any interview on that day especially with it being a bank holiday weekend because my autistic twins needed me and I was scared I would be held all weekend.

To this she told me she would attend my house with social workers for my boys.

I contacted a solicitor straight away and he was unable to get PC Daley so for the first bank holiday in May I sent my disabled twins away for fear of this officer carrying out this threat.

This absolute nonsense has been hanging over my head for a month, I can barely sleep
or eat and I still don't know what the offending tweet is, my new interview has been scheduled for Thursday the 27th May, I will find out what I am supposed to have said at that point and if I will be indeed charged, again at another bank holiday, I just want to say, anyone who knows me, knows I am not homophobic or transphobic, I am a hard working mummy who would fight to the end for the safety and dignity of women and girls and for my vulnerable twinnies.

If we sit back and do nothing we will regret it for ever. For this reason I will never
Wheesht.

I actually feel sorry for the person at Brunel who resigned. This is an institutional problem and shouldn't fall on the shoulders of one, probably quite lowly, worker. Brunel seems to be saying that the individuals involved are being dealt with, rather than dealing with their own culture which seems to foster angry incel entitlement and knee-jerk support for anything a trans-identified person does.

toffeebutterpopcorn · 04/06/2021 14:46

Maybe they resigned from managing the social media. I can’t believe it’s a full time job.

EmbarrassingAdmissions · 04/06/2021 14:50

@YetAnotherSpartacus

Is the misspelling of 'grammar' as 'grammer' deliberate in the picture that Screaming posted? It is very ironic indeed if it isn't and I've missed the joke if it is.
Yes. It seems to be in response to somebody who corrected the grammar/spelling of a previous tweet.

It definitely is.
yourhairiswinterfire · 04/06/2021 15:04

Perhaps they should have a word with their "Marxist" Society.

I think they're on to that now, too.

Now reported in the Guardian
www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2021/jun/04/gender-critical-feminist-charged-over-allegedly-transphobic-tweets

ScreamingMeMe · 04/06/2021 15:25

I am very pleasantly surprised with Brunel University!

Artichokeleaves · 04/06/2021 15:27

Oh ffs Guardian.

Gender critical feminists disagree with the view of some LGBT activists that gender identity should be prioritised over biological sex in terms of law-making and policy. They fear that sex is being argued into non-existence and that this will erode rights hard-won by women in the face of historical biological discrimination.

Well yes, ok, that's a bit thin on the ground but roughly covers it.

Some LGBT activists regard the focus on biological sex as transphobic. They argue that while they do not deny the reality of biological sex

Plain not true, many do.

there must be a recognition of complexities beyond binary definition, and that people should have the right to privacy around their sex characteristics at birth (as was agreed in the European convention on human rights in 2002, which led to the current Gender Recognition Act).

Not adding there that they wish to enforce this, as compulsory in law, upon everyone whether or not they agree. It's not about 'some people should have the right' it's about 'no one should be allowed to disagree or define themselves differently'.

Be honest about it. Otherwise it starts to look like you have something you're trying to hide from your readers.

I'm sort of surprised by that Guardian article. They dont see it have put a spin on it; it's just factual reporting of what both sides of the debate think, without any judgement on either side. I would have expected their article to lean towards or imply that Marion is transphobic and is in the wrong and for it to bang on about trans rights etc.

BoreOfWhabylon · 04/06/2021 15:31

Scott Christy-Jones @TheChristyJones is the freelance journalist who fell into this yesterday and contacted the police while the Unimwere still equivocating. He also contacted the Uni Press Office who, in his words, "nearly shat themselves". He's been speaking to them today and was given the distinct impression that the person running Brunel's Twitter yesterday was a student volunteer.

He's also discovered that the gun-toting TRA is good friends with none other than Aimee Challenor

@Artichokeleaves

They haven't gone into all the nuances on either side of the debate, or covered every possibly view from transactivits, but they have reported in mostly factual, non-emotive language without trying to force down our throats the idea that Marion is the bad side and trans is the good side. It's an improvement from some of their past articles around this sort of thing.

ANewCreation · 04/06/2021 15:37

Interesting that they are one of just 23 subscribers to Aimee Challoner's youtube channel and are both from Coventry...

Yes, I agree. When I read the Brunel statement, I was sorry their social media person felt that they needed to resign.

It was the student who tweeted pictures of their weapons (real or fake, doesn't matter) and made violent & abusive threats towards women who is at fault. No-one else.

And you know what, @BilindaB when men post women's addresses on Twitter, or say things like "I know where you are" and drop hints etc. Do you know what the police do?

Absolutely nothing - see the stories of Sophie Walker & Caroline Farrow, as two of the more recent ones.

@JustNippingToWaitrose

Scott Christy-Jones is doing a great job!
I like the way he is being fast and loose with preferred pronouns.

On the Challoner link, it seems that Challoner was invited to speak in November 2016 at an event hosted by Coventry Uni LGBTQWERTY society and Andrea Cachia?

I think far too much is being said about this case and I’m not sure it’s helpful. Hopefully MM has good support around them and that a fair, high- profile court-case will take place in July. This will be a case where the Scottish criminal justice system is going to be under scrutiny. All the ‘facts’ of the matter will be out in the open and hopefully justice will be served. I don’t think it’s helpful trying to ‘guess’ what the other tweets said. We don’t know.

Different wobbles have different themes. The theme of the most recent wobble has been: do as you think Stonewall demands of you and you could be looking at reputational and legal problems.

Nodal · 04/06/2021 16:57

Fair play to Brunel Uni and good on Scott the journo. It's about time we finally see proper "real world" sunlight shone on these horrible, jumped up little loser incel brats. In the real world they are nobodies. Loser nobodies that can't even make it as beta males. So instead of doing something about toxic masculinity they've embraced it and then some. Nothing to commend them. They're failures competing with other men. Girls despise them. All they are left with is a greasy and sordid presence on SM and as perrenial students and social media trolls. They've been allowed far too much leeway for far too long, mainly because people felt sorry for them for being so physically and intellectually repulsive, and that's given them the impression that no one will push back. I think that's finally changing.

Colour me surprised.
