If (and this is a very big if) it was to be accepted that the meaning of ´woman’ had evolved to include more than just adult human females, do you have any ideas of what the new and necessary single word replacement should be?

Wouldn’t the convoluted alternatives be unnecessary if ´goddess’ or whatever was used where biology was important.

Whilst highly contentious this is intended to be slightly lighthearted.

@Umpteenthiteration

Thin end of the wedge isn't it?

NO.

It's more like a battering ram tbh.

No, this is not negotiable. Women need the word.

Though I suppose if I was in a situation where I was debating with some idiot who insisted 'women' relates to 'gender' rather than 'sex' , I might prefer the thought upthread to use wimpund rather than submitting to the deceit of 'Cis'.

Like staycation...

Another one saying NO

Woman is our word. They can create their own.

It’s becoming like Animal Farm - all women are equal but some are more equal than others.
Woman has an existing meaning it doesn’t need amending or qualifying.

howtocomplain · 21/05/2021 10:14

It's impossible to have a word that those who seek to appropriate womanhood would not want to claim for their own.

We cannot bend over backwards far enough, they will never stop pushing.

The only solution is to stand tall, push back and defend our boundaries.

The word woman is taken.

meg70 · 21/05/2021 10:17

They want our words. They want our spaces. They want our silence.

FemaleAndLearning · 21/05/2021 10:23

No, woman is an adult human female. Trans people have words transwomen/woman or transmen/man. Stonewall created this war with their stupid mantra.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 21/05/2021 10:27

And 'man'

Maybe 'child'

Possibly 'dog, cat'

Language evolves - I just sent out a MailChimp to all my clients with my staycation dates this year!!!

But it evolves for societal reasons, changes in communication, technology, work practices, for example.

It doesn't change to legitimise fetish!

MolyHolyGuacamole · 21/05/2021 10:34

@Erikrie

No. I can't even be light hearted about it. Woman: adult human female. That's it. It doesn't include born males.
The thing is it isn't trans women that have issue with the word 'women'. It's trans men with female reproductive parts that don't like being classed as women.

Not everything is about/caused by trans women.

MajesticWhine · 21/05/2021 10:55

I was talking to a colleague yesterday trying to articulate something a bit awkward and I found myself using "female bodied person". Horrible. I want to give myself a slap but I feel I have to be careful and adopt stupid language at work.

yourhairiswinterfire · 21/05/2021 11:03

But when JKR made her ''there used to be a word for these people'' tweet, it wasn't transmen threatening her with their dicks.

UppityPuppity · 21/05/2021 11:05

The problem is the TRA campaign is not about equality or compromise it's about domination and capitulation.

If women gave up our own word for something different, that new word would then be the new goal.

Exactly.

Interesting that it was even suggested at a WP meeting- glad the response was as it should (would love to know who proposed it but I imaging you’re not going to say

Yes - if it was about trans people’s discomfort about using terms related to their sex, then ‘men’ would be the ostracised term because of the sheer numbers of TW compared to TM.

But it’s not.

I wonder why...!!

Zeev · 21/05/2021 11:12

@justawoman

No, because a) we shouldn’t give it up, and b) the TRAs would then just start calling themselves ‘goddesses’, or whatever and we’d be back to square 1.
Was it on reddit gc where someone said something like "if women started calling themselves znyrgyn soon trans women would be calling themselves more znyrgyn than znyrgyn, the znyrgynest znyrgyn that ever znyrgyned".

It's not about the words. They don't want to be called the same as us, they want to BE us.

Whythesadface · 21/05/2021 11:15

It's Transwoman wanting something they are not and can never be, that is causing this problem.
Woman are born not created by the knife.
A man may feel feminine, dress feminine, hell even pass as a female, but do a DNA test and guess what. MOTHER NATURE REVEALS ALL.

Erikrie · 21/05/2021 11:16

Although the op is asking for a single word that incorporates more than adults human females, which I would take to mean men. As there is already a word that describes women and transmen. If transmen don't like the word woman, why would we be looking for another single word that still joins women and transmen together in one group.

@thepuredrop

No from me too. We already have a word. We’re not allowed to think of new words to describe ourselves, we have to be defined by their terms: cis woman, person with a uterus, etc. As soon as we think of our own word, it will be appropriated just like woman and female have been.
I work in health and one of the questions on our forms is gender. Most people don’t fill it in now, and most don’t fill in ethnicity either. And I’m fine with that.
DinosaurDiana · 21/05/2021 11:21

Sorry, don’t know why that quoted you - didn’t mean to !

I couldn't have put it better.
woman is perfectly fine.

Nodal · 21/05/2021 11:24

I'm female and a woman, that's it. No one without female biology is or will ever be. No words can change that.

OccultGnuAsWell · 21/05/2021 11:28

In the spirit of the recent "Superstraight" situation I'd quite like to be Superwoman.

NonnyMouse1337 · 21/05/2021 11:29

The word woman is taken. The gender worshippers can come up with their own terminology.

viques · 21/05/2021 11:30

@PaleGreenGhost

Karen

Because it's the only term that won't get appropriated.

There was a thread a while back where enthusiasm grew for various iterations of Vulva Driver because it sounds cool.

Vulva Driver , Mini’s big sister.
CuriousaboutSamphire · 21/05/2021 11:33

Woah! Why was that deleted?

I only pointed out that transwomen want to be women too, regardless of their transitional status!

Oh! I see. I can't say that but can be threatened by it, especially if I am a lesbian!

Whythesadface · 21/05/2021 11:46

I pity the youth of today.
Fancy believing what they are spoon fed and realising in 20 years their new wife has sperm and that a womb is also needed to produce children.
