Finchley Road misogyny ignored

Anyone else struck by the lack of acknowledgement of the blatant misogyny evident in the awful anti-semitic abuse shouted out on Finchley Road, London? No doubt this was religiously motivated and an awful hate crime for that alone. But I find it very telling that the media have ignored the casual but very deep misogyny in calling for the rape of female Jews to make the point. Speaks volumes about how the perpetrators see women as well as Jews. And yet, in a time when we keep being told violence towards women will not be tolerated, not one single MP or media outlet has commented on the incitement to sexual violence towards women in addition to the antisemitism.Sad

OP posts:
TabbyStar · 17/05/2021 20:59

Yes, I commented on it in The Times this morning though I haven't been back to see if any blokes have replied with insults....

3orangekissesfromkazan · 17/05/2021 21:00

Yes..I was thinking exactly the same thing.

Vile people and their vile misogyny..it seems whatever the agenda women are always at the very bottom of the pile.

DaisiesandButtercups · 17/05/2021 21:01

Yes.

Exactly “rape their daughters”

Utterly misogynistic as well as the other racist and anti-Semitic things that were said. It is horrific. They clearly see daughters as chattel, they think they are threatening damage to property. It made me think of rape as a war crime, that kind of mindset.

I hope those men are locked up for a long time.

megletthesecond · 17/05/2021 21:04

I noticed too.

powershowerforanhour · 17/05/2021 21:20

Yes I noticed that- the type of thinking that Daisiesandbuttercups describes.

BewaretheIckabog · 17/05/2021 21:21

It was commented on by the male presenter on ITV this morning - Adil Ray.

Ostara212 · 17/05/2021 21:24

"They clearly see daughters as chattel, they think they are threatening damage to property"

Yes.

I could be wrong but I think the media are trying to hush it up though, perhaps the tactic of not giving publicity. I gather these arses travelled a long way for their stunt.

TheThermalStair · 17/05/2021 21:26

Yeah I think most decent press is trying not to be specific about what was said, so as not to act as a mouthpiece for these arseholes.

I only learnt it on this thread, ironically.

paniniswapx3 · 17/05/2021 21:34

It is disgusting. Jess Phillips has called it out on Twitter but sadly you're right, most mainstream news outlets aren't reporting this side of it at all.

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 17/05/2021 21:39

Jess Phillips MP has. I havent seen any others but thats not to say they havent. Just not on my feed.

toffeebutterpopcorn · 17/05/2021 21:40

It was all over LBC from around 4.30 (yes I can sleep). We saw some of the feckers in west London (not yelling but not far from the Israeli embassy).

UppityPuppity · 17/05/2021 22:13

Shameful anti-Semitic behaviour. The misogyny has not been called out. Threats of rape to daughters. Girls have NO protection.

Bastards.

PottingCompost · 17/05/2021 22:17

100% with you, OP.

GlomOfNit · 17/05/2021 22:21

David Baddiel on Twitter didn't ignore the misogyny side of it.

LizzieSiddal · 17/05/2021 22:47

Yes I was very cross about this. Was also surprised to see that Keri Stammer called it out in his Tweet about this.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 17/05/2021 23:57

Vile people and their vile misogyny..it seems whatever the agenda women are always at the very bottom of the pile.

Completely agree.

SpindleWhorl · 18/05/2021 00:05

Yes. Thank you for saying this.

Flaxmeadow · 18/05/2021 02:47

Yes and its beyond misogyny. It's inciting rape

NiceGerbil · 18/05/2021 03:05

In war. In general. When men get angry. Or fight. Women and girls go back to property quicksmart.

We will take your females. Violate them. Impregnate them.

It's the atrocity that until recently was ignored.

Srebrenica- Serbs Christian against Muslim women and girls
DRC- rape as a weapon of war
'comfort women' - not Abrahamic religions afaik
The rape of Berlin

And so on and so on.

Of course it's abhorrent.

But a mistake to think it's exclusive to what's going on right now.

NiceGerbil · 18/05/2021 03:12

Germany is a Christian country. And was when Hitler was around.

The women of groups they hated were raped. The young ones had that role in concentration camps.

MrsAudreyShapiro · 18/05/2021 06:28

Yes completely disgusting, but in some ways unsurprising.

Apsana Begun MP also called out the misogyny.

Justhadathought · 18/05/2021 09:07

Is it another of those situation in which the ethnicity of the perpetrators is avoided for fear of being labelled a phobe?

Justhadathought · 18/05/2021 09:08

...or for drawing attention to misogynistic patterns, norms or tropes within certain communities?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 18/05/2021 09:15

Yes and its beyond misogyny. It's inciting rape

They should be prosecuted on that basis, as well as for inciting racial hatred.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 18/05/2021 09:56

Yes, it is awful. In this case, it is anti-Semitism plus misogyny. Following different terrorist attacks, the same thing happened to Islamic women - and the attacks on women in Cologne on NYE were also hushed up.

Violence against women seems such an inconvenience to the press.
